The monument is located at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle, at the western end of the Champs-Élysées.
While it is slightly offset from the absolute center of Paris, it is highly accessible via Metro Lines 1, 2, 6, and RER Line A.
Because the Arc de Triomphe sits in the middle of a massive and busy roundabout, crossing the street on foot is impossible and extremely dangerous.
You must use the designated underground pedestrian passage to get there safely.
Search for Arc de Triomphe accès on Google Maps to find the entrance to the connected underpass.
Just follow the signs pointing toward the Arc de Triomphe, and you will naturally reach the ticket booth and entrance.

Once you exit the underpass, you will go through a quick security and bag check before entering the monument.
After security, simply scan your e-ticket QR code or your Museum Pass barcode to head inside.
Standing directly under the Arc de Triomphe, you can appreciate the incredibly detailed reliefs and inscriptions carved into the stone walls.
At its base lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a solemn memorial honoring the fallen soldiers of World War I.
An eternal flame burns here, and a rekindling ceremony takes place every evening at 6:30 PM, which is well worth timing your visit for.
Climbing to the Observatory
Here is one crucial detail to keep in mind: there is no elevator for the general public (an elevator is reserved strictly for visitors with limited mobility).
You will need to climb all 284 spiral steps to reach the top, which can be quite a workout.
If you are not used to regular cardio, it can feel a bit intense—feel free to take your time and rest at the landings along the way!
Once you reach the top of the stairs, you do not step immediately onto the outdoor terrace. Instead, you will enter a small indoor exhibition hall.
Here, you can learn about the history of the Arc de Triomphe through historical documents, interactive screens, and detailed architectural models.
Follow the signs marked 'Terrace' and climb the final short flight of stairs to step out onto the open-air roof.
The Arc de Triomphe rooftop is famous for offering a stunning, unobstructed 360-degree view of Paris.
Unlike some other viewing platforms, there are no heavy iron bars or thick glass panels blocking your view—just open, endless vistas of the city skyline.

To head back down, you will use the same spiral staircase. Fortunately, going down is much quicker and easier than climbing up!
