Discover Dining Cafe 8DAYS in Ishigaki, a perfect spot for an early brunch with ocean views and unique local specialties like black sugar banana.
I traveled to Ishigaki for manta scuba diving, but on my last day, I really wanted to enjoy some sightseeing, so I decided to have a delicious breakfast at a brunch cafe.
Considering the car return, travel time to the airport, and other logistics, I knew I needed to have breakfast quite early, so I looked for a cafe with early opening hours and that unique Ishigaki charm.
Among the options, DINING CAFE 8DAYS was the perfect fit – just a 15-minute walk from our accommodation, offering delicious brunch options and local Ishigaki specialty dishes.
8DAYS truly captured my heart with its taste, scenery, and unique character. Here’s a summary of its location, business hours, menu, payment methods, and my dining review.

1. Location & Opening Hours

Ishigaki Dining Cafe 8DAYS is located in Misakicho, and it was a 15-minute walk from our accommodation, making it perfect for a morning stroll.
It's also just a 5-minute walk from Ishigaki Public Market, so it would be a great idea to grab brunch here before starting your morning itinerary.

📍 DINING CAFE 8DAY'S
Japan 〒907-0012 Okinawa, Ishigaki, Misakichō, 2−5 大和ビル 1階
Opening Hours
07:00 - 17:00
True to a brunch cafe, I loved its very early opening hours.
It's also a great spot to just pop in for coffee in the morning.
Since it closes before dinner time, it's best to go early if you plan to visit.

Inside, you'll find a mix of bar seating, two-person tables, and four-person tables.
The interior design felt antique yet the owner's unique personality shone through everywhere, making it feel like an old-school coffee specialty shop, which I absolutely loved.

2. Menu

The menu is largely divided into brunch items and beverages. Although there's a menu posted at the entrance, they'll bring a menu to your table once you're seated.

DINING CAFE 8DAYS' brunch menu specializes in open sandwiches.
Waltz with mango and cream cheese
Fresh with salmon and prosciutto
Melt with tomato sauce and bacon
Classic with avocado and egg
Bloom with mozzarella cheese and cherry tomatoes
Basic with bacon and egg
There are six types of open sandwiches, and if you order a set meal, it comes with two kinds of salad, yogurt, and a drink.

For beverages, they offer coffee, smoothies, and other options. The drinks where you can truly savor Ishigaki's unique character are the Okinawa Brown Sugar Latte and the Ishigaki Banana Smoothie.

Once you step inside, you'll find drinking water readily available with cups, and in addition to the savory brunch items, they also sell dessert pastries.
3. Payment Methods

Something I realized during my Ishigaki trip was that many places surprisingly don't accept card payments.
On my first day, I withdrew some cash from an ATM at Ishigaki Airport, but I had almost used it all up buying souvenirs at the market the day before.
Since I visited Ishigaki Brunch Cafe 8DAYS on my last day of the trip, I didn't want to withdraw more cash only to have nowhere to spend it if there was any left over.
I sent an Instagram DM to 8DAYS, one of the cafes I had on my shortlist, to ask if they accepted card payments, and they confirmed it was possible.
After that, I went to the cafe, ordered my menu, and then topped up my travel card with just the necessary amount to pay.

4. Our Dining Experience

What We Ordered
Classic Open Sandwich
Basic Open Sandwich
Okinawa Brown Sugar Latte
Ishigaki Banana Smoothie
We ordered the sandwich menu as a set, and it came out to 3,610 yen.

The Brown Sugar Latte I was most excited to try!
Okinawa, home to Ishigaki, is renowned for its brown sugar, so when I saw that Ishigaki Dining Cafe 8DAY'S offered a brown sugar latte, it became the menu item I was most excited to try.

They thinly grind brown sugar on top of the latte, and you can even watch the owner grind it right in front of you.
While 8DAY'S does have indoor seating, we opted for the outdoor area to soak in the Ishigaki scenery. A staff member kindly came out to inform us that if we wanted to see the sugar being ground, we could come inside at that moment.

The brown sugar latte wasn't just intensely sweet; it had a savory sweetness that gently permeated, offering a nuanced flavor that you simply can't find with regular white sugar.

On Ishigaki Island, a slightly special variety of banana grows, known as Shima Banana.
It's said that when fully ripened, it develops a chewy texture and a gentle acidity, and we had the pleasure of trying a smoothie made from this very banana.
It was definitely much thicker and chewier than any regular banana smoothie I've had before.
I was still a bit sleepy, but this sweet banana smoothie really perked me right up!

Basic Open Sandwich
This sandwich came topped with bacon and an egg, served alongside sautéed mushrooms, a fresh salad, and yogurt.
The vegetables were incredibly fresh, and the mushrooms were cooked to perfection.
It felt like a wonderful, healthy breakfast option, though purely as a brunch item, the taste wasn't exceptionally unique.

Classic Open Sandwich
This sandwich was topped with avocado, which was perfectly ripe, making it incredibly smooth and rich.
Considering the quality of these brunch items and drinks, I'd say it offers excellent value for money.
