We all love diving into local cuisine when traveling, but let's be honest, sometimes you just crave something familiar yet utterly satisfying. For me, when Vietnamese food fatigue sets in, or my appetite just needs a gentle nudge, a hearty bowl of ramen often hits the spot. It's almost a travel ritual!

A Hanoi Must-Try

That's how I ended up at Yukichi Ramen. It's common to find Japanese restaurants abroad that really commit to the theme, not just with the decor but also with the staff speaking Japanese. It was quite amusing; as I walked in, I encountered a Western traveler leaving, and when I made way for them, they politely said 'Arigato gozaimasu' (Thank you very much in Japanese) on their way out. It really sets the authentic mood!

And Of Course, Draft Beer!

Immersed in that authentic Japanese ambiance, I placed my order: a classic ramen, of course, along with some delicious gyoza and a refreshing Sapporo draft beer.

You can choose between Yokohama and Hakata-style ramen, and they even offer a spicy option. Since I had plenty of Hakata-style ramen on my last trip to Fukuoka, I opted for the Iekei style this time around.

While I enjoyed the gyoza, my ramen soon arrived. It's amazing how a comforting bowl of noodles can awaken your appetite, even when you thought you weren't hungry!

I went for a richer, more savory flavor this time, but I'm definitely curious to try the spicy version next. It was my first meal of the day, so I wasn't ready to jump straight into intense heat.

A Must-Visit in Hanoi, Vietnam

For my ramen, gyoza, and Sapporo, the total came to 300,000 Vietnamese Dong, which is approximately ~$10 USD.

Interestingly, despite being a Japanese restaurant, it seems to attract more local Vietnamese and Western diners than Japanese patrons. Of course, I can't make a definitive judgment from a single visit, but everyone I saw coming and going was either Vietnamese or Western.

This gem is conveniently located near the end of Hanoi's famous Old Quarter Beer Street, making it a perfect spot for a post-exploration meal.

and then from 5:30 PM to 2:00 AM

The time in between is their break, so plan accordingly.

I arrived around 1:40 PM and managed to get my meal in, but I saw some customers arriving just as I was finishing up who were turned away because the kitchen was closing for the break. So, timing is key!

It's amazing that they stay open until 2:00 AM! Imagine enjoying a few drinks on Hanoi's Beer Street and then capping off your night with a delicious bowl of ramen before heading back to your accommodation. Sounds like a perfect plan!
