It's the classic old-school fried chicken from Suwon Chicken Street!
This time, my husband and I personally visited Yongseong Tongdak, one of Suwon's top three fried chicken restaurants, and I'm excited to share all the details.
I'll be giving you an honest rundown, including the waiting experience, menu recommendations, the actual taste, parking tips, and who this spot is perfect for!
Last December 2025, I was visiting family in Yongin and decided to head over to Suwon Chicken Street for dinner. Even though it was quite a rainy day, the moment we stepped into the alley near Paldalmun Gate, the savory aroma of fried chicken filled the air.
As expected for a famous restaurant street near Paldalmun, the area was bustling with cars and people. Yongseong Tongdak, in particular, had both its first and second floors almost completely packed with customers.
It really showed me why people say there's often quite a wait at Yongseong Tongdak, especially on weekends or during peak dinner hours. Luckily, we had good timing and didn't have to wait too long!
Looking at the Yongseong Tongdak menu, they offered a variety of options including original fried chicken, King Galbi chicken, and seasoned spicy chicken. Since we were in Suwon, we absolutely had to try the King Galbi Chicken, so we ordered the 'Hoo-Ban Wang-Ban' (Half Original, Half King Galbi), which seemed to be the most popular choice.
The Hoo-Ban Wang-Ban cost around ~$16, and the portion was perfect for 2-3 people. Considering today's chicken prices, it felt like a pretty reasonable deal!
After ordering our chicken, they brought out complimentary fried chicken gizzards and chicken feet as a service.
These were surprisingly delicious! Crispy yet chewy, they made for a fantastic appetizer with a cold beer.
What impressed me the most was how incredibly fast the food came out. Our chicken arrived in less than 5 minutes after ordering! It felt like they were constantly frying chicken due to the high turnover.
Not having to wait long is definitely a huge advantage of Yongseong Tongdak. This makes it an ideal spot for family dinners, large gatherings, or even company outings!
I personally love fried chicken with a thin, crispy skin, and Yongseong Tongdak's original fried chicken was exactly my style. The batter wasn't thick, offering a wonderfully crispy texture and a rich, savory flavor! It had a charm that's quite different from the trendy fried chicken popular nowadays.
I was initially worried that the King Galbi chicken might be too sweet, but Yongseong Tongdak's sauce was relatively light and not overly rich, making it less intimidatingly sweet. (However, the sauce does get stickier as it cools!)
The subtle sweet and savory balance made it a great pairing with the original fried chicken. Still, it wasn't completely without sweetness, and towards the end, it did get a little overwhelming. The sweetness seemed to become more pronounced as the chicken cooled down.
Overall, Yongseong Tongdak in Suwon serves up a crispy fried chicken that's wonderfully juicy on the inside – truly delicious!
Suwon Chicken Street is located in a pretty complex network of alleys, so parking directly in front of the restaurant is practically impossible. Most people either park in nearby alleys or use public parking lots.
The Namsudong Public Parking Lot and the Hwaseong Haenggung No-Sang Public Parking Lot are both relatively close by. If you're planning to explore Suwon Hwaseong Fortress or Haenggung-dong as well, I highly recommend using one of these public parking facilities.

My recent visit to Yongseong Tongdak left me highly satisfied thanks to its speedy service, authentic old-school fried chicken, and convenient location that fits perfectly into any travel itinerary. It's especially great to visit after exploring Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, so I'd definitely suggest it to anyone planning a trip to Suwon.
