Ambiance at This Sejong Boram-dong Eatery

The restaurant featured a warm and tidy atmosphere, largely thanks to its inviting wood-toned interior.

Being dinnertime, many families from the surrounding apartment complexes were dining out, and we noticed quite a few parents with young children.

For those dining solo, there were also convenient bar seats available. This setup makes it a comfortable spot for professionals working near Sejong City Hall or anyone simply enjoying a meal by themselves.

Ordering and payment were handled via a tablet at each table, which was incredibly convenient as we didn't need to call a staff member.
Our Order
Mackerel Stone Pot Rice (Sotbap) ~$10
Gangdoenjang Gondre Stone Pot Rice (Sotbap) ~$9
Spicy Jeyuk Bokkeum (Stir-fried Pork) ~$6
We ordered these three dishes. Our stone pot rice bowls arrived about 10 minutes after ordering, accompanied by clear seaweed soup and the basic side dishes.
Delightful Side Dishes

First, a personal set of five side dishes was served: stir-fried zucchini, cucumber salad, stir-fried kimchi, seasoned squid, and seaweed stew. The seasoning was not overly strong, which made them pair perfectly with the stone pot rice.

Each side dish, while not extravagant, was neatly prepared, giving the impression of a healthy and wholesome meal.
The Mackerel Sotbap: Our Favorite

My husband chose the Mackerel Sotbap, and we tried it first. He enjoys fish but is sensitive to any fishy smell, so I was a bit worried. However, there was hardly any fishiness, and the rich, savory flavor of the mackerel truly shone through. Paired with the warm, perfectly cooked rice from the stone pot, the clean taste was incredibly satisfying and easy to enjoy.
If you're a fan of fish stone pot rice, this dish is sure to impress!
The Gangdoenjang Gondre Sotbap: A Slight Miss

I opted for the Gangdoenjang Gondre Sotbap, and I was pleased with the generous amount of gondre namul (Korean thistle greens) it contained.

However, based on the name, I had expected a simmering pot of Gangdoenjang stew. Instead, the Gangdoenjang was served as a sauce in a small bowl.

While the flavor was good, it wasn't what I had envisioned, leaving me a little disappointed. If you're ordering this dish for the first time, knowing its presentation beforehand might lead to greater satisfaction.
Spicy Jeyuk Bokkeum: A Matter of Preference

The Spicy Jeyuk Bokkeum, ordered as a side, was a decent accompaniment to the stone pot rice.
However, considering its price of around ~$6, the portion felt a bit small. Also, the sauce leaned towards the sweeter side. If you enjoy sweet and savory stir-fried pork, you'll probably like it, but those expecting a truly spicy and savory kick might find it a bit polarizing.
Tips for Visiting This Sejong Boram-dong Restaurant

🥄 The Gangdoenjang Gondre Sotbap comes with a sauce-like Gangdoenjang, not a stew.
🥄 The Jeyuk Bokkeum has a sweeter profile.
🥄 It's a comfortable spot for family outings or even dining alone!
🥄 Parking is available, making it convenient for car travelers.

After a full day of moving-related tasks, I was truly craving a comforting Korean meal, and Yeonnam Sotbap certainly delivered. The Mackerel Sotbap, in particular, was fantastic – clean-tasting and flavorful without any fishiness, making it my top pick. With its welcoming ambiance for both families and solo diners, I'd definitely recommend Yeonnam Sotbap to anyone searching for a great restaurant in Sejong's Boram-dong.
Funnily enough, during our meal, I actually received a call from the wallpapering crew, suspecting a leak around a window frame. Talk about a jolt while enjoying a peaceful dinner! Thankfully, it turned out to be a false alarm, and we could finally relax.
I was so glad we were eating such comforting food at Yeonnam Sotbap that night; otherwise, I might have gotten indigestion from the stress! Haha.
