Bareun Sushi Sejong: Our Top Sushi Picks in Dajeong-dong
Moving to inland Sejong, I feared I'd miss out on great sushi. Bareun Sushi in Dajeong-dong proved me wrong, becoming a quick favorite with two visits in just a month!
When I moved to Sejong, I had one subtle worry gnawing at me.
Coming from Busan, a vibrant coastal city, and being the daughter of a raw fish restaurant owner, I've always had a deep love for sashimi and sushi.
Living so close to the ocean my entire life, I wondered if I'd ever find a sushi spot that truly captured my heart in an inland city like Sejong.

So, I started exploring restaurants near my home in Dajeong-dong, Sejong, searching for a sushi spot that would satisfy my cravings. That's how I stumbled upon Bareun Sushi Sejong Branch.
To cut right to the chase, I loved it so much that I went back again within a month of my first visit!
After experiencing Bareun Sushi twice, I realized that for someone with a definite preference for fish-focused sushi like me, the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi" was perfect. My husband, who enjoys a wider variety, found the "1-Meter Sushi" platter to be his ideal match.

Bareun Sushi Sejong Branch is conveniently located near the Dajeong-dong detached housing complex. We walked there both times, but if you're driving, there's public parking available nearby.

On our first visit, we ordered the Chirashi Sushi and the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi." Like most sushi restaurants, Bareun Sushi offers a variety of sets, but that day, I was specifically craving a diverse selection of fish-based sushi.

That's why I opted for the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi." Being able to pick exactly the types I wanted was fantastic. If you're like me and have very specific sushi preferences, this is definitely a choice you'll be happy with!

When we ordered our sushi, it came with a side of salad, udon, and pumpkin porridge.
It was lovely to warm up with these comforting dishes before diving into the main event.

What truly stood out from our first visit was the Chirashi Sushi. This dish features finely diced salmon, tuna, flounder, avocado, and other fresh ingredients, all served over a bed of sushi rice. Each spoonful offers a delightful mix of textures and a rich, savory umami flavor.

While I'd had a bite or two of similar sushi during omakase experiences before, digging into such a generous bowl with a spoon felt like a completely different, more satisfying experience.
I enjoyed it plain, and also tried wrapping it in seaweed, which added another delicious dimension. That day, a spoonful of Chirashi Sushi paired with a refreshing sip of beer was an unexpectedly delightful combination!

You often read restaurant reviews where people say, "I'd definitely visit again!" Well, I actually did—I went back about a month later! Haha.

For our second visit, we ordered the Chirashi Sushi again (it was that good!) and this time, we decided to try the Bareun 1-Meter Sushi.

This impressive platter features 24 pieces of sushi, and the length of the serving board was truly overwhelming—it actually stretched beyond the edge of our table! Haha.

With two pieces of each type, it was easy for my husband and I to share and sample everything.

Having tried both the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi" and the Bareun "1-Meter Sushi," the difference in preference was clear. As someone who prefers fish-focused sushi, I found that the 1-Meter platter didn't have as high a proportion of fish varieties as I typically like. Therefore, the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi," which allowed me to select my preferred types, was a better fit for my taste.

Conversely, my husband, who enjoys almost all kinds of sushi, absolutely loved the Bareun 1-Meter Sushi! So, if you're visiting as a pair and want to try a wide variety, I'd recommend the 1-Meter Sushi. But if you have specific sushi preferences, the "Choose-Your-Own Assorted Sushi" is your best bet.

For those looking for something a bit different from typical sushi, the Chirashi Sushi would be an excellent choice. Personally, it hit all the right notes for me!
Having lived for many years in coastal cities like Busan and Jeju, and as the daughter of a raw fish restaurant owner, regularly enjoying sashimi and sushi was a given for me. Finding a new, reliable sushi spot in Sejong was, surprisingly, a pretty important task! Haha.

The Chirashi Sushi, which I ordered both times, still makes my mouth water as I write this! Haha.
