Yabiji is Japan's largest coral reef system
and is famous for having the most crystal-clear waters in Miyakojima!
Seeing it in person was mind-blowing—the water was so clear you could see right to the bottom,
with vibrant living corals and fish swimming right in front of your eyes! 🐠
Photos honestly don't do it justice; it's so much more beautiful in real life!

2. How to Book
When I booked, there was only one Korean agency offering this,
but the Japanese operators were much cheaper, so I reached out to one directly!
Although they only communicate in Japanese, you don't actually need to talk much
during a snorkeling tour, so it wasn't inconvenient at all!

4. Yabiji Snorkeling Tour Review

We signed up for the morning tour.
We gathered at the location provided by the operator on Ikema Island!
Before starting, they gave us a brief briefing and safety guidelines,
which I filled out using the Papago translation app!

We set off from the harbor and headed out to Yabiji by boat!
The color of the ocean started changing right before our eyes,
and I was already in complete awe during the ride 🥹
Since it's a spot you can absolutely never reach on your own,
joining a tour made the whole experience incredibly easy and convenient!
@ Shoutout to the amazing tour crew for taking such great care of me, even though I'm a terrible swimmer... 🩵👍🏻
Because it was a small-group tour, they gave everyone personalized attention,
so even a non-swimmer like me could enjoy it without any worries! 🥹
The moment I dipped into the water, the clarity was on another level.
There were so many vibrant, living corals everywhere!
It truly felt like stepping into an entirely different universe,
and I just spaced out, completely mesmerized by the corals and fish 🐠🪸
Instead of staying in just one spot,
we kept moving to different spots for snorkeling,
and since the water color, depth, and marine life varied at each location,
there was never a dull moment!
Schools of fish swam right by me,
and everywhere I looked, the underwater scenery was absolutely breathtaking.
I completely lost track of time exploring the ocean depths 🥹
Having snorkeled in Okinawa, Bohol, and Nha Trang,
I can confidently say that Miyakojima is hands-down the absolute best... 🩵

One of the best things about this tour
was that they immediately sent us underwater photos + videos that I could never capture with my phone,
along with epic drone shots right after the tour!
The ocean itself is easily top-tier among all beaches in Japan,
and they take amazing care of you even if you're a first-time snorkeler.
and with transportation and photography all included, all we had to do was relax and have fun!

Yabiji is a marine spot in Miyakojima featuring Japan's largest massive coral reef. It is absolutely impossible to go there on your own, so you must visit through a boat tour.
You can book it through the WAUG platform for ~$65. The tour cost includes free underwater photo and video shooting using an action camera, as well as drone shots.
The morning tour meets at a designated location on Ikema Island at 8:40 AM. The boat you board to travel from the port to the Yabiji spot is equipped with a small restroom inside.
It is recommended to wear a long-sleeved and long-legged rash guard along with a thin outer layer. Additionally, you should prepare sunscreen, a beach towel, a hat, and a waterproof phone pouch. Swim fins are optional.
