If you're racking your brain weighing all the pros and cons!
2. Vista Sapporo Odori: To stay or not to stay...?
Or maybe your heart is already 90% set,
but you're still hesitating because there's surprisingly
not much information about Vista Sapporo Odori Hotel.
Am I right? Haha!
Well, you've come to the right place!
If you're looking for a hotel near Sapporo Station
& Odori Station,
I've brought you a post that will help! 😉
I'll give you my honest review, sharing what I truly felt during my 3-night, 4-day stay in a twin room, funded by my own pocket,
along with a clear breakdown of the pros and cons!
First, let's start with the advantages!
The location is unbeatable!
📍 Hotel Vista Sapporo Odori
5 Chome-16 Minami 3 Jonishi, Chuo Ward, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-0063 Japan
Hotel Vista Sapporo Odori
is located a 5-minute walk from Odori Station and Susukino Station,
where all the hot spots are clustered.
And it's directly connected to Tanukikoji,
Sapporo's representative shopping street!
Tanukikoji is a covered arcade, so
whether it's snowing or raining, you can easily
pop over to the convenience store, Don Quijote, or drug store
without an umbrella!
(It's especially great when you're craving a beer at night!)
The biggest reason I chose this hotel
was precisely this 'incredible accessibility.'
Although it's closer to Odori Station,
for those looking for a hotel near Sapporo Station,
it's only two subway stops away
(but if you walk via the underground walkway, you'll get there in no time —
it's quite different from two stops in Korea!).
The walkability is excellent.
Separate Toilet and Bathroom
You know that cramped, stuffy unit bath setup typical of Japanese hotels
(where the tub and toilet are combined)? You don't like it, right?
If someone's using the shower, you can't use the toilet,
and for couples, there's even that awkward 'smell issue'... ^^
Vista Sapporo Odori, however, features a bathroom, toilet, and even the sink
perfectly separated.
When getting ready with a friend in the morning,
you can say "I'll shower, you use the toilet,"
which effectively halves your getting-ready time.
It Has Everything You Need
That prejudice that Japanese hotels are cramped and stingy?
You can leave it at the door here.
There's plenty of space in front of the bed and in front of the vanity/desk, and even on both sides of the bed, there's enough room to place your luggage!
I also loved that they provided plenty of hangers.
Usually, you only get about two, which isn't enough for winter coats,
but here, they give you three per person,
so you can comfortably hang your thick long puffer jacket, pajamas, and even tomorrow's outfit.
Plus, two bottles of water are provided daily.
You'll find a desk with a mirror, perfect for doing your makeup,
and facilities to make tea or coffee.
Cups and a coffee pot are also available.
Amenities are located in front of the check-in counter, where
razors, cotton pads, toothbrush & toothpaste sets, hair ties
and more, a wide variety is available!
Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are in the bathroom,
but Oops, I totally forgot to snap photos of the bathroomㅠㅠㅠ!
There are also charging outlets next to each bed!
No need to fight over charger cords, haha.
If needed, you can also use the vending machines, laundry room, microwave,
and a smoking room.
(I haven't used them myself, so I don't know the details.)
Breakfast at Vista Sapporo Odori = Delicious
You need a hearty breakfast to power up for your travels, right!
"The breakfast here is fresh and delicious."
A buffet-style meal using ingredients from Hokkaido is served,
While the number of menu items isn't overwhelmingly vast, each dish was impeccably clean-tasting and refined.
Salads and dressings
Eggs, corn, fish, sweet potato balls
Toppings for your custom rice bowls
Soup Curry
Yogurt, vegetable juice, milk
There's a decent variety, even including desserts!
Now, here's a little secret for you: there's one condition for
enjoying breakfast even more deliciously.
It's all about being an early bird and arriving right when it opens! ⏰
It's not that the food is constantly and actively refilled in large quantities, but rather,
there's quite a difference in taste between going early and going late.
I went right when breakfast opened at 6:30 AM for my Biei tour, and what I had then was much more delicious than what I ate around 8:30 AM the next day.
If you go late, the food might get cold or the seasoning could become too strong, so for those who opted for breakfast, I recommend being a little diligent and enjoying the delicious food fresh out of the kitchen!
Especially if I were to tell you the must-try menu items,
- Soy Sauce Karaage (they called it Zangi, apparently!)
- Scrambled Eggs with Bacon (wrapped up to eat!)
- Stir-fried Vegetables and Meat
- Soup Curry
- Pancakes with Berry Jam
- Yubari Melon Jelly? Pudding?
And that's pretty much it! Haha.
Oh, if you order, you can also get Butadon or Miso Ramen
(no extra charge),
but the taste... it's just okay, haha.
Alright, now let's dive into the
**downsides** I experienced at Hotel Vista Sapporo Odori!

**Desert-like Dryness 🌵**

Sapporo gets so cold that you end up
blasting the heating (which is adjustable),
but the **room gets really dry**.
Like... a dry sauna?
It seems the hotel knows this, as there's
a humidifier in every room, and I kept it on every night, but...
I'd still wake up with a scratchy throat in the morning. ㅠㅠ
A humidifier is a must, and I'd also recommend
**hanging a wet towel nearby**
when you sleep!
**Amenities: Hit or Miss**
The shampoo was fine,
but both my friend and I noticed a strange scent
from the conditioner and body wash.
It wasn't spoiled; it seemed like a natural ingredient scent,
but it had a slight **'fishy'** smell to it. 😅
If you're sensitive to smells,
I'd recommend bringing your own
conditioner and body wash.
(Especially if you're a couple...)

**Even if you're a couple, choose a 'Twin Room'**

At Hotel Vista Sapporo Odori,
there are six room types, so you might
find yourself pondering which to choose.
Usually, friends would pick a twin room, and couples a double,
but I'd recommend choosing a
**twin room.**

The beds are actually pushed together,
so they're **basically one anyway.**
This hotel has an 'eco-cleaning' policy,
so **they don't change the sheets daily.**
(Only on the 4th night.)
So, I slept on the **left bed for the first two nights,**
**and the right bed for the remaining two.**
This way, I got to enjoy the feeling of sleeping on a fresh,
clean bed every day.
(Pretty genius, right? 😎)

These three points truly outweigh all the downsides.
Especially being located between Odori Park and Susukino,
it was incredibly convenient for walking everywhere.
