with a truly unique atmosphere –
none other than the
Valencia History Museum
(Museu d'Història de València).
I'll delve into what makes it so distinctive,
sharing all about its ambiance and special features.

Nestled in a corner of the park,
as I first approached the entrance leading downwards,
I couldn't have imagined just how grand this space would turn out to be.
This museum is actually a converted space,
originally Valencia's very first reservoir, built in 1850.
That's why its design is so incredibly unique!
While the admission fee is 2 Euros,
here's a fantastic tip:
you can enter for free on Sundays and public holidays!
We actually visited for free on a Sunday
and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't overly crowded,
allowing us to enjoy a really comfortable visit.
2. History
Built in 1850,
designed by architect Ildefonso Cerdà,
it was Valencia's very first reservoir –
a massive facility created to solve the water shortage problem
for the city's rapidly growing population at the time.
Then, in the late 20th century,
the city of Valencia pondered how to utilize this space,
which had outlived its purpose as a reservoir.
They decided to transform it into a museum
dedicated to the city's rich history.
The distinctive red brick arch structures visible at the entrance
beautifully illustrate just how robustly this place was built in the past
to withstand water pressure.
3. Exploring the Museum

Over 250 Brick Columns
The moment you step inside,
the countless columns and arches,
along with the lights illuminating the dim interior,
create an atmosphere utterly unlike any museum you've experienced before.

Time Machine History Experience
The greatest charm of this museum is
none other than what's called the Time Machine,
an interactive exhibition hall.
Through virtual characters who become the protagonists of each era,
you'll see them dramatically reenact
the situations of their time.
Roman nobles, medieval merchants,
farmers under Islamic rule...
when you encounter history through their voices,
the artifacts truly come alive!
With benches conveniently placed in front of the screens,
you can take a moment to rest and enjoy the experience,
almost like watching a captivating short film,
before continuing your exploration.

3. A Timeless Treasure Hunt Through the Ages
Amidst the forest of columns,
you'll discover Valencia's chronological treasures
tucked away.

the intricate mosaics and steles
reveal just how deep Valencia's roots truly run.

The innovative aqueduct systems of that era
and magnificently patterned ceramics

stand as testament to Valencia's glorious past.

Instead, descriptions are provided in two languages:
Spanish and Valencian.
However, if you ask at the information desk,
you can receive an English guide booklet.
Each item is well-explained,
which will greatly enhance your visit.

Since the building wasn't originally constructed
as a museum,
the exhibition layout can feel a bit intricate.
But don't worry, helpful numbers are clearly marked throughout!
The suggested route is clearly marked with arrows
at the entrance and within the guide booklet,
so if you simply follow them,
you'll effortlessly journey through Valencia's rich history,
era by era.

While grand landmarks are wonderful,
if you truly want to understand the city of Valencia,
I highly recommend visiting this History Museum.
Within the cool, serene air of the underground reservoir,
you'll be able to fully feel the weight of time
that Valencia has carried and truly experience its history.
