Ulleungdo Accommodation Spotlight: Ulleungmyeongga Pension
My Honest, Self-Paid Review of a Value-for-Money Stay

Hello everyone! For this trip, I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days
at Ulleungmyeongga Pension in Ulleungdo 🥰
Honestly, I didn't book this place because I instantly fell in love with the accommodation;
rather, I chose it for its great value for money.
But after actually staying for 2 nights and 3 days,
I realized I made an absolutely fantastic choice by booking here!
It was such a satisfying Ulleungdo accommodation 👍

While it might not be a super fancy or 'aesthetic' place,
if you're like me and plan to explore Ulleungdo extensively,
and are looking for a comfortable place to stay, I highly recommend it.
All the rooms are detached private units, and they even have outdoor terraces,
which made it a truly satisfying pension.

When I was booking, I compared several places,
and Trip.com offered the lowest price at the time I booked,
so I booked it myself (paid for my own stay).
I've used Trip.com many times,
and I've never had any issues with bookings or my stays.
Plus, if you leave a simple review on the app after your trip,
they give out points pretty generously, which keeps me coming back.

Ulleungmyeongga Pension Review

The Location is Fantastic!
First off, I loved the location of Ulleungmyeongga Pension.
We rented a car for our trip around Ulleungdo,
and its location, not far from the town center,
made it super convenient to drive around.
Nearby, you'll find Sadong Beach, Dokdo Museum,
Dokdo Observatory Cable Car, and many restaurants and cafes.
It's also relatively close to Haengnam Coastal Walk and Dodong Harbor.
I'm not sure about public transport accessibility,
but if you're planning to get around by rental car like we did,
you'll likely find the accommodation's location quite convenient.
There's also a Shuttle Service.
There was a shuttle vehicle, so it seems the owner might offer pick-ups!
I saw in other reviews that they do provide rides,
but since I used a rental car, I can't confirm for sure.

Private Units & Terraces are the Best! 👍
Another great thing was that all the rooms are detached, private units.
It felt like we had our own space, not connected to other guests,
allowing us to truly relax for the two nights we stayed.

The biggest reason I chose Ulleungmyeongga Pension
was actually its excellent value for money, more than anything else.
I visited just before the peak season, so I was able to book it for around ~$62 per night, I believe?
It was so enjoyable that I wondered if this was really the same place I booked just based on price! 💕

Each unit has its own outdoor space in front of it,
perfect for sitting and relaxing,
or even having a barbecue.
A barbecue setup costs ~$21, and you can pay via bank transfer.
We didn't request it in advance,
but when we asked on the day, they prepared everything for us.

So, during our two-night stay, one evening we had a barbecue,
and another evening, we bought some chicken and watermelon and enjoyed them outdoors.
On a summer night, gazing at the beautiful scenery of Ulleungdo,
grilling meat and munching on watermelon,
it truly felt like we were on a perfect vacation!

There were also adorable cats around our accommodation,
and when we grilled meat, they even came to visit our terrace.
If you're a cat lover, you'll be even more delighted! 🤗

However, if you're planning to dine outdoors in the summer,
be prepared for mosquitoes! 🤧
We also had quite a few mosquitoes join us for dinner,
so it's a good idea to bring long sleeves and long pants.
Mosquito repellent bracelets or similar items would also be super useful!
Fortunately, our accommodation had mosquito coils,
so I highly recommend lighting one up while you eat dinner.

While the accommodation itself isn't a super 'aesthetic' or trendy spot,
this rustic, countryside charm actually felt like
it perfectly suited the vibe of a Ulleungdo trip.
If relaxing comfortably is more important to you than getting Instagram-perfect photos of your Ulleungdo stay,
then a place like this could be a really great choice.

Even better, there's a clothesline!
One of the things I found most convenient during my stay at Ulleung Myeongga Pension
was the outdoor clothesline.
When you travel to coastal areas like Ulleungdo, you naturally end up doing a lot of water activities, right?
We did a lot of snorkeling and swimming in the sea,
so we had quite a few swimsuits, towels, and other items that needed drying.
Having an outdoor clothesline made it super easy to hang our swimsuits and wet clothes to dry.
It was something I hadn't thought about when booking the accommodation,
but it turned out to be a truly fantastic feature once we got there!
The Comfort of Grandma's House,
Ulleungdo Accommodation with Charm

To be honest, the rooms aren't exactly the trendy, cutesy 'aesthetic' style that's popular these days.
The room was set up like a typical studio apartment,
and instead of a traditional bed, a comfortable mattress topper was provided.
The topper was surprisingly plush, and I slept incredibly well.

Overall, while the room had a slightly older feel,
it was clean and had everything we needed.
There was a refrigerator and cooking utensils,
so it would be great for simple cooking.

The room even had a microwave and an electric rice cooker.
There were also plenty of dishes, which was convenient for our barbecue.

The bathroom was quite spacious, and the hot water worked perfectly.
It was super cute how they had custom-made tooth-brushing cups with photos of the pension!
Even though it might seem like a place that wouldn't have shampoo, body wash, or toothpaste,
they had all of those, and even shower towels!

They also provide plenty of towels,
and if you run out, you can always get more from the front desk.

All in all, the vibe is a bit like visiting your grandma's house,
or a cozy countryside home.
But with the "chonkangs" (countryside vacation) trend being so popular lately,
when you look at it that way, it actually feels quite charming.

For those looking for an Instagram-worthy stay
with stunning interiors and great photo opportunities,
this place might feel a little lacking.
But if your main goal is to simply relax comfortably at your accommodation,
and you just need good air conditioning,
then I think you'll have a perfectly comfortable stay without any major inconveniences!
My Honest Review of Ulleungdo Accommodation (Paid for with My Own Money)

For this Ulleungdo trip,
I booked a two-night stay at Ulleungmyeongga Pension.
Initially, I thought, "It looks like good value, so why not here?"
and booked it without much expectation.
But after spending two days at Ulleungmyeongga Pension,
I realized I had made an excellent choice!
First off, the owner was incredibly friendly,
it's in a great location for exploring by rental car,
and since all the rooms are detached units, we could relax in total comfort.
But most importantly, I loved being able to
soak in the summer night ambiance right in the outdoor space in front of our room.

One night, we had a BBQ,
and another night, we sat out enjoying chicken and watermelon.
It might not have been extravagant, but it was truly a romantic trip ✨
Accommodation rates can vary depending on the date,
so once your travel dates are set, be sure to compare prices.
It seems like the more affordable rooms get booked up quickly,
so I'd recommend booking in advance!
