Thipsamai Bangkok Review 2026: The Original Pad Thai Spot
Craving authentic Pad Thai in Bangkok? Dive into our 2026 review of Thipsamai, the city's legendary 80-year-old spot. Find out why it's a must-visit!

When you think of Thailand, Pad Thai is an absolute must!
Honestly, there is nothing more exciting than
hunting down the absolute best local eats during a trip.
While Bangkok is packed with amazing Pad Thai spots,
the legendary 80-year-old icon,
Thipsamai, takes the crown!
It's so good that even local foodies willingly line up
for a taste of this legendary dish.
Check out my honest review of my visit below! 👇
Thipsamai (Main Store)
Location Approx. 20-minute walk from the Grand Palace Approx. 10-minute walk from the Democracy Monument |
Hours 09:00 - 00:00 Closed every Tuesday |
✔️ Takeout available |
To be honest, the location of the main branch is a bit tricky to get to.
We decided to walk over from the Grand Palace,
taking in the sights along the way,
and somehow made our way here! haha

Be prepared, there might be a queue at the main branch.
It gets super busy, especially during peak dinner hours from 6 PM to 9 PM!
If you want to skip the line, takeout is also available.
I always recommend visiting the main branch
to experience the most authentic flavors,
but if you want to save time,
visiting a branch in malls like IconSiam
or Siam Paragon is also a great option.
How to Order & Menu
We arrived around 5 PM,
but even we couldn't escape the queue.
We waited for about 20 minutes before heading inside!

While you're waiting in line, they'll hand you a menu.
Once you get close to the front of the queue,
you can actually place your order before entering.
What We Ordered
⭐: Highly Recommended
⭐ Egg-Wrapped Pad Thai Superb Padthai | 150 Baht (~$3) |
Spring Rolls | 129 Baht (~$3) |
Stir-fried Seafood Noodles | 789 Baht (~$24) |
⭐ Orange Juice L | 199 Baht (~$6) |
In Bangkok, you can easily find Pad Thai
for just 50 to 100 Baht,
so looking at it that way, this place is definitely not cheap.
On top of that, the orange juice is even pricier than standard Pad Thai!
Yet, despite the steep price tag,
it is absolutely worth every penny.
If it's your first time visiting,
I highly recommend ordering both
the Egg Omelet Pad Thai and the orange juice!
Our Honest Review

The restaurant was already packed with people,
yet the interior was remarkably clean and well-kept.

The orange juice arrived first.
The orange juice here is freshly squeezed on-site,
and it's so incredibly famous that it almost rivals the Pad Thai.
Note: The price of the juice changes daily depending on market rates
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of orange juice,
so we only ordered one just for my husband.
Curious to see what all the hype was about, I took a tiny sip...
And oh my word! It was ice-cold, perfectly sweet, and beautifully tangy.
It was genuinely delicious.
I seriously contemplated ordering another one,
but decided to just steal a few more sips from him instead :)

The Egg Omelet Pad Thai was hands down the best Pad Thai of my life.
A medley of fresh ingredients
tossed with tender, perfectly moist noodles and savory sauce,
all wrapped beautifully in a delicate egg crepe.
Squeeze a bit of fresh lime over it,
and the umami flavors just explode! 👍

Even though I was on a diet back then and my husband has a light appetite,
we deeply regretted only ordering one dish.
You absolutely must order one Pad Thai per person here.
There's also a guide on the table explaining
the best way to enjoy each type of Pad Thai, so be sure to check it out!
We only noticed it halfway through eating 🤣
If you start to find the Pad Thai a bit too rich,
You can pair it with the spices or
pickled chilies(?) on the side.

The spring rolls were also incredibly crispy and delicious.
They were the absolute perfect side dish!

The seafood stir-fried noodles—
not the main star, but certainly felt like one!
Since they didn't have a spicy Pad Thai,
I ordered this to add a little kick to the meal,
and true to its price tag, the portion size was absolutely massive.

Just look at the size of this shrimp... it was almost as big as the plate!
Seriously so plump and incredibly delicious.
The noodles also had a lovely chewy texture, quite different from standard Pad Thai.
It was packed with fresh veggies, giving it a great crunch,
and the spicy kick from the veggies and seafood
completely cut through any richness from the Pad Thai.

While we completely polished off the Pad Thai and spring rolls,
this dish was so incredibly generous
that we sadly couldn't finish every last bite.
Considering the local cost of living, it was a pretty pricey meal,
but when it comes to flavor, you just can't deny that
Thipsamai is a legendary Bangkok Pad Thai spot.
Despite the long wait and the premium prices,
it's definitely a must-visit spot
during your trip to Bangkok.
Make sure to go try that signature egg-wrapped Pad Thai!
