Generally, here is how I break down the spa options in Bohol:

Tourist-centric Spas: Clean, reliable, and overall consistent. However, they definitely charge a premium.
Local Shops: Budget-friendly and incredibly authentic. You might sacrifice a bit of modern luxury and pristine hygiene, but exploring them is half the fun (even if you hit an occasional miss).
Hotel and Resort Spas: Guaranteed top-tier hygiene and premium facilities, but they come with a hefty price tag. (Tip: Look for guest discounts or happy hour specials!)

With that in mind, I set out to explore the local spa scene in Panglao, Bohol. Here is what I found at Thai Paradise Spa.

They seem to offer professional training courses here. True to that academic touch, the actual massage quality was absolutely outstanding.

Here is the spa menu from my visit. Please note that prices have since gone up by about 100 PHP (roughly $1.80 USD) across the board. Because Bohol's tropical weather was so hot and humid, the thought of sticky oil on my skin did not appeal to me at all, so I opted for a dry massage.

Personally, I usually prefer floor mats over massage beds because lying face-down in those headrest holes can be incredibly uncomfortable. At first glance, the left photo looks like a floor mat, but it is actually a raised bed (as you can see on the right). Surprisingly, they provided a comfortable neck pillow that made the face-down position totally comfortable!

I only got a dry massage, but usually, if a place nails the dry massage, their oil massages are bound to be great too. Think of it like a restaurant—if their basic side dishes are delicious, you know the main course will be amazing.

After the session, they served a warm cup of tea to help me relax.

The Pros: The stretching was phenomenal. They incorporated unique stretches I hadn't experienced elsewhere, and they executed them perfectly. Also, during the neck and scalp massage, the therapist actually lifted my head slightly before turning it so my ears wouldn't get uncomfortably folded—a small but incredibly thoughtful detail that most local shops miss!

The Cons: The bathroom faucet was broken during my visit, so there was no running water. I'm sure they'll have this fixed soon, though!

While it might not have the luxurious amenities that Western tourists typically look for, the sheer quality of the massage makes Thai Paradise Spa a fantastic, budget-friendly local option in Bohol.
