Interior & Exterior
We headed to Teppangap, a fantastic Dongtan anniversary restaurant, right after work. Did you know that teppanyaki, or 'iron plate grilling,' is said to have evolved from the cooking methods of ancient Mongolian warriors, later refined by Japanese chefs?
It makes sense why it's called 'Teppanyaki' if its origins are in Japan!
Each table at Teppangap is designed around its own iron griddle, with partitions providing a cozy and private dining experience for each party.
Teppangap A Course
We opted for the Teppangap A Course. While it's considered the most basic course, it's packed with all the essentials for a truly satisfying meal! ❤️
Since we made a reservation, our sauces and pickles were already set when we arrived. On the left was a ginger-infused soy sauce, and in the middle, a slightly spicy chili sauce. Both were described as Teppangap's special house-made sauces! *.* We also received salt and wasabi to complement our meal.
For appetizers, we were served a fresh salad and a creamy sweet potato soup. The sweet potato soup was particularly delightful, with minimal additives, letting the natural sweetness of the potato shine through. Absolutely delicious! ❤️
First up on the griddle were vegetables: mushrooms, zucchini, and broccoli. Cooked in butter on a sizzling hot plate over 390 degrees Fahrenheit, these veggies were incredibly flavorful. And let me tell you, butter-grilled veggies on a sizzling hot plate? Absolutely divine!
The chef then expertly stacked onions into a mountain before putting on a spectacular fire show! 🔥 Witnessing the performance right before our eyes made this teppanyaki meal a feast for both the eyes and the palate. This interactive dining experience truly delights all the senses! ❤️
They even had a fun lottery event! I won a glass of house wine, and my partner, who was driving, received a complimentary non-alcoholic wine (which was essentially fancy grape juice, haha!) 🍷
Next, it was time for the grilled seafood: large shrimp, scallops, green mussels, and cod.
The scallops were from a large fan shell, and compared to regular scallops, they were bigger and had a wonderful chewiness – truly captivating and delicious! 😘
On the right, you see the shrimp heads and what looks like another scallop, but it's actually the grilled cod! My partner crunched on the shrimp heads, and for the cod, they even remarked that they never knew cod could taste this incredible! ❤️
Indeed, the combination of a hot griddle and butter seems to be an unbeatable duo.
The chef surprised us with another fun event! 🎰 He performed a card trick with a deck of trump cards and even had a mini casino slot machine toy for another lottery drawing. These little breaks during the meal made it even more enjoyable and allowed us to savor each course without feeling rushed. 🤣
Then came the grand finale: the beef tenderloin fire show! 🔥 Cooked to perfection at a high temperature, the tenderloin was as tender and delicious as a sirloin. I've always been a fan of tenderloin, but this was exceptionally good.
The accompanying grilled bean sprouts and garlic added another layer of flavor, elevating the entire dish!
For many, a meal isn't complete without a satisfying carb finish, and Teppangap understands this perfectly! We got to choose an animal shape for our fried rice – we picked the pig, and the chef even added a cute ribbon made from egg! 🤣
And then, the chef wrote a special message with egg batter! We decided to celebrate our 'days since we met' anniversary, which was an impressive 1962 days! So, a big 'Congrats on 1962 Days!' appeared on our plate. So thoughtful!
The chef even took a photo for us, making it a truly unforgettable dining experience. ❤️ Teppangap is definitely a top recommendation for an anniversary restaurant in Dongtan, don't you agree?
Course meals can sometimes leave you feeling hungry, but this was certainly not the case here! The fried rice portion was generous, and with the added dessert of ice cream, we finished our meal feeling completely satisfied and happily full.
Highly recommending Teppangap, a fantastic teppanyaki restaurant, for your next anniversary or special occasion in Dongtan! That concludes our review! :>
