This time, I was craving something a little different, so I ventured out to Tacos Royale, a spot that's been buzzing among locals and on social media lately.
I'd seen it pop up on my feeds and saved it after reading rave reviews on Reddit. After experiencing it firsthand, I totally get the hype!
To cut to the chase: it's not the cheapest taco joint, but for a unique experience during your LA trip, it's absolutely worth it.
Tacos Royale isn't your everyday taco stand; they're only open from Thursday to Sunday.
Their operating hours are from 6 PM to 11 PM, but word on the street is they close earlier if they run out of ingredients.
So, if your travel plans align, I highly recommend getting there closer to opening time rather than late.

They also have a parking lot, which is convenient if you're exploring LA with a rental car. (It's not huge, though.)
Each taco was $7.50.
When I first saw the menu, I thought, "Wait, $7.50 for *one* taco?!"
My friends with me were equally surprised.
However, many agreed that considering the quality and generous portion of meat, the price made sense. After tasting it myself, I definitely concurred.
The meat flavor was much richer than typical street tacos, almost like a gourmet steak.
I felt this was definitely a meal worth splurging on during an LA trip.
At first, I thought it was just a regular hot sauce, but after trying it, I realized it had a deep, umami-rich flavor, similar to a high-quality chili oil.
They even sell it separately in the store, and I almost bought a jar... but I'll stick with my favorite Lao Gan Ma for now!
Another cool thing was that guacamole wasn't an extra order; you could just help yourself. That was a pleasant surprise!
The guacamole itself was a bit lightly seasoned, but it actually balanced perfectly with the slightly salty meat.
We also ordered some chips on the side.
Honestly, one taco was surprisingly filling. Two would probably leave you stuffed!
There was a sign next to the taco shop indicating more seating, which led me down a staircase.
Curiosity got the best of me, and I descended, only to discover an absolutely fantastic bar atmosphere!
It was a bit surprising to find a DJ spinning tunes right in the middle of a residential area. But once I settled in, it was clear this was a chill spot where locals were just enjoying tacos and drinks.
I ordered a watermelon margarita, and it paired absolutely perfectly with the tacos.
I'm not sure if this cool vibe will last forever, so if you're interested, I'd suggest checking it out sooner rather than later!
And if you plan to enjoy this whole experience, including drinks, I'd strongly recommend using Uber instead of driving yourself.
It let me fully savor the tacos and a margarita without any driving worries, soaking in the genuine LA evening atmosphere.
Reddit reviews often say things like, "I go back for the meat" and "It's pricey but worth it." After trying it myself, I completely understand why it gets such high praise.
Of course, if you're hunting for super cheap tacos, there are other options. But if you want to experience incredible tacos alongside a fantastic atmosphere, Tacos Royale is definitely a place I'd recommend!
