Arriving at Sun Siyam Olhuveli
After a thrilling 50-minute speedboat ride from the airport, slicing through the turquoise waters, we finally arrived at our destination: Sun Siyam Olhuveli. We were greeted with refreshing welcome drinks, completed a swift check-in, and headed straight to our first home-away-from-home: the Beach Villa.
As a quick tip, we booked a split stay—spending 2 nights in the Beach Villa before moving to a Water Villa. This was the perfect way to experience and compare the two iconic room types firsthand.
Inside Beach Villa #637
Opening the door to Beach Villa 637, we were welcomed by an incredibly spacious and airy layout—more than comfortable for a family of four.
The room configuration featured one massive queen-size bed and two single beds arranged side-by-side. The kids loved having their own proper single beds to spread out, while my husband and I slept soundly on the spacious main bed.
Many resorts advertise 'family rooms' only to charge extra for rollaway beds, but here, everything was perfectly set up from the moment we walked in.
Because we went with the All-Inclusive package, our in-room minibar was fully included and restocked daily with soft drinks, beers, and snacks. The kids were thrilled to always have treats on hand!
One of the most unique features of the villa was the semi-outdoor bathroom and shower area. With parts of the ceiling open to the sky, it felt wonderfully close to nature. While it felt slightly unusual at first, we quickly grew to love showering under the open tropical sky.
Why We Recommend the Beach Villa Over the Water Villa for Families
The absolute highlight of this villa is the private pool area that opens directly onto the beach. Having our own pool seamlessly merge with the pristine white sand was a dream setup for a family vacation.
While overwater villas are the quintessential Maldives dream, I’d strongly recommend saving those for couples or honeymooners. Once we actually got there, we realized the wind and waves near the water villas can get quite strong, making it a bit too risky and less enjoyable for younger kids to jump straight into the ocean.
In contrast, the Beach Villa offered the ultimate, stress-free resort experience. My husband and I spent peaceful afternoons lounging on the sunbeds, sipping unlimited wine and beer, while the kids safely ran back and forth between the pool and the ocean.
The pool water was meticulously maintained and crystal clear every day. The beach sand was as soft as flour, and the kids spent hours catching tiny crabs and building sandcastles during our 3-day stay.
The best part of all? We could keep an eye on the kids at all times from the comfort of our patio. Everyone got to relax in their own way without any safety worries—which is exactly why I highly recommend this as the best budget-friendly family resort in the Maldives.

Up to two children under the age of 14 can stay for free, which significantly reduces the total accommodation cost for a family of four. In addition, one queen-size bed and two single beds are provided as standard in the room without any extra bed charges.
You will take a speedboat from the boarding area to the resort. It takes about 50 minutes of cruising across the ocean on the boat to arrive at the resort.
With the all-inclusive option, you can use the entire in-room minibar for free. It is restocked daily with fresh drinks and snacks, so you can enjoy them at no additional cost.
The Water Villas can be dangerous for children to enter the ocean directly due to strong winds and waves. On the other hand, the Beach Villas are directly connected to a private pool and a white sandy beach, allowing children to play safely within the adults' sight.
