If you are looking for a classic, no-frills Thai dining experience right in the heart of Bangkok, Suda Restaurant is a highly popular spot located just steps away from BTS Asok Station.
While it is widely known among travelers for its incredible accessibility, I wanted to see for myself if this legendary local eatery lives up to the hype.

1. Suda Restaurant
Suda is a classic open-air, street-side restaurant.
A friend who knows Bangkok inside-out brought me here, raving about its popularity.
Strangely enough, I stayed at a hotel just a few doors down during my last trip to Bangkok (just down the alleyway marked by the arrow in the photo).
Yet, I had absolutely no memory of seeing this place before!
With its bright orange plastic chairs and bustling roadside setup, you would think it is impossible to miss.
I distinctly remembered the spa right behind it, so how did I overlook Suda?
Then it clicked—my previous visit was during the Songkran Festival, so they must have been closed for the holidays.

2. Authentic Street-Side Vibe
We arrived around 6:00 PM. The sun was still setting, and while it had a decent local feel, it was relatively quiet at first.
However, by the time we finished our meal, the place was completely packed. The energy was buzzing, and it truly felt like a classic, lively Bangkok street-food spot.
While you do not come here for fine dining ambiance, the casual, open-air setup is perfect for travelers wanting an authentic local experience.
3. Menu & What We Ordered
The menu is packed with classic Thai favorites. Thankfully, almost every dish has a picture, making ordering incredibly easy even if you are new to Thai cuisine.
To start, we ordered a cold local beer and some Singha soda water—super fizzy and incredibly refreshing in the humid Bangkok heat.
For the food, we ordered a classic fried rice, a budget-friendly version of Poo Pad Pong Curry (yellow crab curry), a hot bowl of Tom Yum Goong, and some savory grilled pork.
And of course, we could not skip the *Tangmo Ban* (fresh watermelon smoothie)—the ultimate sweet thirst quencher.
So, how did it taste?
Everything was delicious, though perhaps not a "life-changing culinary masterpiece" that you must cross the entire city for. However, for a solid, highly satisfying local Thai meal in a lively open-air setting, it absolutely hits the spot!
Its popularity is undeniable. Throughout our meal, we saw a steady stream of both locals and Western travelers filling up the tables.
Plus, being located literally right next to BTS Asok Station, the convenience is unmatched. You can actually see the bright orange chairs from the station stairs before you even walk down!
