Discover Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong, a top Sejong spot for authentic charcoal-grilled Korean pork. Enjoy expertly cooked pork neck, convenient parking, and excellent service. A must-visit!
As my husband and I were getting ready to move to Sejong and frequently visiting the area, we spotted Songjeong Yeontan preparing to open on the first floor of the commercial building in Gaonmaeul Complex 4, conveniently close to our new home.
I'd heard Songjeong Yeontan was already a popular spot for its charcoal-grilled meats in Haemil-dong, so it immediately landed on our must-try list of restaurants in Sejong's Dajeong-dong once our move was complete.
The photo shows a relatively quiet weekday evening; on weekends, the red chairs are often full.
Our first attempt to visit was on a weekend evening, hoping for a casual dinner with a drink or two. To our surprise, there was already a long line of eager diners waiting!
The wait was substantial, much longer than we anticipated, so we decided to try another time. We returned on a weekday evening, around 5:30 PM, for an earlier dinner.
So, what was our verdict on Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong? To cut straight to the chase: while the assortment platter, offering various cuts, was certainly good, for us, the pork neck was the clear winner. It was absolutely delicious!
As mentioned, on our initial weekend evening visit, the restaurant was already bustling with a significant wait. The on-site waiting system involved signing up for a spot at the entrance. Given the sheer number of people ahead of us, we ultimately decided to skip dinner there that night.
Conversely, when we visited much earlier on a weekday, we were seated immediately without any wait. However, even at that early hour on a weekday, there were already diners enjoying their meals, which suggests that it definitely gets much busier during peak dinner hours.
If you're planning a weekend dinner out or a group gathering in 2026, I highly recommend checking for Naver reservations in advance to avoid a long wait.
The restaurant is also conveniently accessible by car. You can use the parking lots at the commercial buildings of Gaonmaeul Complex 4 and Complex 7, so there's no need to hunt for a separate parking space.
Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong Branch Menu
As it was our first time visiting, my husband and I wanted to sample a variety of cuts, so we ordered the Chilbaek Assortment.
The Chilbaek Assortment comes with a delicious selection: pork belly (samgyeopsal), pork neck (moksal), pork jowl (gabrisal), pork collar (hangjeongsal), skirt meat (galmaegisal), and pork rind (kkaedeok).
As you can see in the photo, the basic side dishes included scallion salad (pamuchim), pickled chili (gochuji), and a sprinkle of soybean powder.
The fermented seafood sauce was a bit sparse, so we asked for more, plus extra garlic and chili – trust me, it’s delicious this way! A little tip from a former Jeju resident!
In particular, the fermented scallion kimchi (pakimchi) and gajisokjeot (fermented anchovy sauce) were fantastic accompaniments to the charcoal-grilled pork. They expertly cut through the richness of the meat, making us reach for them repeatedly throughout the meal.
Once the charcoal briquettes are glowing, the staff takes over and grills the meat right at your table.
This hands-off approach was quite convenient, as we didn't have to constantly worry about cooking the meat ourselves. Perhaps because Sejong is a family-friendly area, they tend to cook the meat quite thoroughly, ensuring it's well-done.
The pork belly (samgyeopsal) at Songjeong Yeontan had a remarkably soft fat portion. While tender, for me, the texture was a slight letdown. Having spent about 7 years living on Jeju Island, I've grown accustomed to the delightfully crisp fat texture of Jeju pork, which might explain my preference.
The pork neck (moksal), on the other hand, was absolutely perfect for my taste. Despite being cut into thick slices, it wasn't tough at all. When chewed, it offered a wonderfully clean, savory, and rich flavor that was incredibly satisfying.
The pork neck was so good that after devouring the entire Chilbaek Assortment, we just had to order another serving! We couldn't get enough.
If you're keen to try a little bit of everything, the Chilbaek Assortment is a great choice. However, if you already have a favorite cut in mind, it might be better to skip the assortment and just order your preferred cut à la carte from the start.
Next time we visit Songjeong Yeontan, we'll definitely focus our order primarily on the pork neck!
After finishing our meat, we opted for the Chadol Doenjang Sulbap, a hearty beef brisket soybean paste stew with rice, as our closing meal.
The rich and savory soybean paste broth, combined with tender beef brisket and rice, was the perfect comforting finish after a delicious barbecue feast.
One of the great advantages of Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong, a popular restaurant in Sejong's Dajeong-dong, is that the staff grills the meat for you, allowing for a truly relaxed dining experience. However, when the restaurant is busy, the staff has to attend to multiple tables, and the grilling pace can sometimes feel a bit slow.
If you're enjoying a leisurely meal with drinks, this isn't an issue. But if you prefer your meat to be cooked quickly and continuously without interruption, I'd recommend taking over the grilling yourself.
My husband and I are pretty serious about our barbecue – we like to eat it 'combat-style,' as we joke! So, to keep the meal flowing smoothly, we ended up grilling the meat ourselves for most of the time. The staff did check in on us periodically, though! Haha.
On the flip side, the staff was incredibly quick at clearing tables after guests left! This means that even with a long waiting line, the table turnover rate seems quite efficient.
📍 Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong Branch 109, 1F, Commercial Bldg 1, 19 Dajeongjungang-ro, Sejong Special Self-Governing City
Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong, the restaurant we reviewed today, had been on our radar even before we moved to Sejong, and we were so curious to try it.
After finally visiting, several things stood out: the convenience of having the staff grill the meat for you, the easy parking thanks to the dedicated commercial building parking lots, and, for me personally, how incredibly delicious the pork neck was.
To be honest, after moving away from Jeju Island, I was secretly worried that all other pork barbecue would just taste bland in comparison! Haha. Seriously, in Jeju, even grilling basic stewing pork from the supermarket tasted incredible.
It might sound a little dramatic, but finding such a great restaurant here has made me incredibly happy!
If you're looking for an excellent restaurant in Sejong's Dajeong-dong, or simply craving some delicious Korean pork barbecue, Songjeong Yeontan Dajeong is definitely a place worth visiting!
