Sokcho Must-Visit Spot Near Abai Village
Cheongho Beach (Temporary Beach), Officially Opened This Year

Hey, fellow travel lovers! I'm Yunyi, your travel influencer.
As the summer vacation season kicks into high gear, instead of heading to a bustling, noisy hotspot beach,
I'm excited to introduce you to Cheongho Beach, Sokcho's newest officially opened beach for 2026,
where families can safely and leisurely enjoy the gentle waves.

This used to be a hidden, temporary beach that only locals knew about and quietly visited.
But this year, on July 11, 2026,
it officially opened as a designated Sokcho public beach, making it a brand-new, exciting spot for water fun!

1. Sokcho's Cheongho Beach: A Complete Overview
Since this beach just officially opened this year,
there isn't a ton of information out there yet.
So, I've put together some key details you might be curious about!

Cheongho Beach Operating Hours & Period
However, for safe swimming, it's best to enter the water
during lifeguard duty hours, which are typically
from 9 AM to 6 PM.
Utilize Cheongho Temporary Beach Public Parking

When I visited, 'Cheongho Beach' wasn't even searchable on navigation apps.
If you encounter the same, try searching for its former name, 'Sokcho Temporary Beach.'
📍 Temporary Beach
Sokcho-si, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province
It's conveniently located right next to Abai Village, offering excellent walkability.

As this is its first official opening, new restrooms, showers, and a watchtower have been installed.
Plus, a robust 656-foot (200m) barrier net has been set up in the ocean to prevent harmful marine life,
so you can enjoy your swim with peace of mind.
2. Recommended Visit Times & Crowd Tips
Sokcho's Cheongho Beach features a unique geography, with a long breakwater extending out to sea,
creating a cozy, sheltered cove.

Thanks to this, even on windy days,
the waves are incredibly calm, and the water is shallow,
making it an ideal beach for families with young children!

As it was once a hidden spot frequented by locals for strolls,
even with its official opening this summer, it's likely to remain
relatively quieter and more relaxed compared to the popular, larger beaches nearby.
So, if you're looking for a less crowded beach, this one's for you.

However, as we're now entering the peak summer vacation season,
weekends and sunny days might see larger crowds.
Since the beach offers little natural shade,
I recommend bringing your own tent, parasol, or mat to escape the sun.
To snag a prime spot, plan to arrive early in the morning (between 9 AM and 10 AM)
to set up leisurely.

We found a shaded spot under a tree and enjoyed the cool breeze – it was incredibly refreshing!
3. Recommended Walkable Eateries & Activities
Right behind Cheongho Beach is Abai Village, a must-visit spot in Sokcho,
allowing you to plan a perfect culinary tour before or after your swim!
① Sokcho Gaetbae Ferry Experience (5-minute walk)
The 'Gaetbae' is a traditional, non-motorized ferry that connects Abai Village and Sokcho city center.
It's a unique Sokcho experience where you get to pull the boat yourself.
If you're traveling with kids, this is an absolute must-do!
The fare is incredibly affordable, just about ~$0 for adults and ~$0 for children for a one-way trip, making it an experience that won't break the bank.

② Abai Village Food Exploration
After an exhilarating swim, you're bound to be hungry.
Head to the alleys of Abai Village to fill up!
Indulge in chewy and savory Abai Sundae (blood sausage) and
perfectly grilled Squid Sundae to round off your perfect day.

4. Tips for Visiting Sokcho's Cheongho Beach
While new facilities are in place due to its official opening,
large convenience stores or snack shops are a bit far.
Make sure to purchase refreshing water, drinks,
and simple snacks from a convenience store or supermarket beforehand.

🎯 This Beach is Recommended For:
① Families looking for a safe, shallow, and less crowded beach
to visit with their children during summer vacation or school holidays.
② Those who prefer a tranquil and relaxing beach experience, enjoying the ocean view and walks,
instead of crowded and noisy popular hotspots.
③ Visitors to Sokcho's iconic Abai Village who want to combine their trip with a refreshing swim at the beach.
What do you think of this review of Cheongho Beach, perfect for those seeking a less crowded spot in Sokcho?
With another long weekend starting today, I know many people are heading to Sokcho,
