Hey there, fellow adventurers! It's Topi, your go-to travel enthusiast always on the move.ᐟ
How's your week going so far?
I'm excited to continue sharing my recent trip to Sokcho with you.
Instead of relying on reviews, we decided to dive in and compare prices and offerings ourselves at the seafood center. And that's how we discovered 'Gyeongsangdo Hoejip' at Sokcho Central Market Seafood Center. Let me tell you all about it!
Gyeongsangdo Hoejip, where we dined, is conveniently located in the underground seafood center of Sokcho Central Market, a must-visit spot in Sokcho.
It's the perfect itinerary: explore the market, then head straight down for a delicious meal!
Honestly, I tend to feel a bit overwhelmed at seafood markets, especially when vendors are trying to get your attention. But my mom, on the other hand, is a seasoned pro at comparing prices and even knows how to haggle! So, I just trusted her lead and followed along.
We visited during an off-peak weekday, so it was wonderfully quiet. Of course, this also meant we became prime targets for every restaurant vying for our business! ^^
When you visit seafood centers like this, the menu and prices are often quite similar across different stalls. That's why, when choosing a restaurant, our number one priority is always friendly service.
After all, it's always better to start your meal somewhere you feel warmly welcomed and comfortable!
Even if the services are similar, we're naturally drawn to places where the staff is exceptionally kind. We chose Gyeongsangdo Hoejip because the female owner was so friendly and offered excellent, thoughtful explanations! 👍 And here's a bonus: no table setting fee! (You know how good that feels, right?)
The interior was quite spacious and impeccably clean, creating a comfortable atmosphere for even large groups to gather without feeling cramped.
Even without a table setting fee, the quality of the side dishes was impressive. We received a typical array of classic Korean sashimi accompaniments, and they were all delicious. The fresh wasabi, in particular, was a huge win!
Oh, just look at the fresh sea squirt and abalone – even in photos, you can tell how vibrant they are! I absolutely adore sea squirt, and with one bite, it felt like the entire Sokcho ocean burst into my mouth, in the best possible way! Haha.
The abalone was perfectly crisp and chewy, without a hint of fishiness. It was absolute perfection!
And check out the quality of this sashimi, beautifully sliced and arranged by cut on a large platter! Each piece had the perfect thickness, offering a delightful chewiness and rich, savory flavor with every bite.
I believe we had mullet, flounder, rockfish, and flatfish – though if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me! 😊
And surprisingly, the steamed scallops were a huge hit with my family! They were incredibly tender and plump, truly delicious. They were steamed fresh at a neighboring stall, and absolutely delicious!
It wouldn't be a complete seafood feast without some snow crab! I always appreciate places that prepare and serve the crab in easy-to-eat pieces.
The snow crab was packed with sweet, succulent meat from claw to leg, making every bite pure bliss. Dipping the crab legs into the rich, flavorful crab roe was an absolute game-changer! My entire family devoured every last bit.
Why is everyone eyeing the ramen noodles?
No matter how full I am, I can never skip the quintessential Korean 'dessert' time: spicy fish stew and crab roe fried rice 🥹. The crab roe fried rice was incredibly savory and addictive – even though we were stuffed, we couldn't stop eating it.
And to top it all off, a steaming bowl of rich, spicy fish stew! Its deep,칼칼 (spicy and refreshing) flavor made it the perfect accompaniment for a final drink.
You know the ultimate combo, right? Dipping a spoonful of that fried rice into the spicy stew broth!
Even my grandmother, who rarely drinks soju these days, couldn't resist! She even made her own cucumber soju concoction to enjoy with this amazing feast. Haha!
Gyeongsangdo Hoejip in Sokcho was a dinner that left our entire family completely satisfied! With generous portions, incredible freshness, and outstandingly friendly service, it truly lacked nothing.
