Since we came all the way to Sokcho (속초), we just *had* to see the ocean!
A family trip to Sokcho with my in-laws and kids.
This time, we also visited Sokcho Beach (속초해수욕장).
Since it was autumn, we had no intention of swimming.
Our plan was just to see the sea and take a stroll.
Well, guess what? The waves were stronger than we expected!
In the end, the kids' shoes, socks, and even their pants...
Ended up completely soaked, haha!
Despite that, we bought a kite at the beach,
and even enjoyed some honey ice cream. We had a great time!
From Sokcho Beach parking and fees,
to stories about our visit with the kids, I'll organize it all for you.
Sokcho Beach
Sokcho Beach is easily accessible from the city center,
and with plenty of cafes and eateries nearby,
it's a great spot to stop by even for a short visit.
While many flock here for swimming in the summer,
it's also wonderful for seaside walks in the autumn.

Sokcho Beach Parking Location and Fees
We walked from Pampas Resort (팜파스리조트),
but if you're visiting by car,
you're probably wondering about parking.
Sokcho Beach has three public parking lots.
Parking Lot | Location |
Public Parking Lot 1 | 194 Haeoreum-ro (해오름로), Sokcho-si |
Public Parking Lot 2 | 1450-8 Joyang-dong, Sokcho-si |
Public Parking Lot 3 | 1467-2 Joyang-dong, Sokcho-si |
If you plan to explore the Sokcho Eye Ferris Wheel (속초아이 대관람차) or the central beach area,
keep the locations of Public Parking Lots 1 and 2 in mind.

Parking fees vary by season.
Usage Time | Off-season | Peak Season |
Within 2 hours | ₩1,000 (~$1) | ₩2,000 (~$2) |
2~4 hours | ₩2,000 (~$2) | ₩4,000 (~$3) |
Every subsequent 2 hours | Add ₩2,000 (~$2) | Add ₩2,000 (~$2) |
Daily Maximum | ₩8,000 (~$6) | ₩10,000 (~$8) |
Peak season is from July 1st to August 31st,
so if you visit in autumn, off-season rates apply.
At ₩1,000 (~$1) for up to 2 hours,
it's a pretty good price for enjoying the sea and taking a walk, wouldn't you say?
Since visitors can flock on weekends,
it's a good idea to check the parking lot locations in advance.
Autumn Seaside Stroll Leads to Soaked Shoes!
Oh my gosh..!
In my eagerness to capture some photos of the kids,
a major mishap occurred~!!
The crashing waves were so beautiful,
and I wanted to take pictures of the kids... but then......
Suddenly, a huge wave came crashing in,
reaching even areas where the waves hadn't gone before!
Can you believe it!! ㅠㅠ

In an instant, shoes, socks,
and even pants were completely drenched.
For those planning to visit Sokcho Beach with kids,
even if you're just going to see the sea briefly,
be sure to pack extra socks or pants – that's a smart move!
Kite Purchased at the Beach for ₩10,000 (~$8),
And Honey Ice Cream
It would be a shame to just see the sea and leave, wouldn't it?
So, we bought a kite for the kids for ₩10,000 (~$8).
Seeing kites flying at the beach is also
one of the iconic sights you can enjoy at Sokcho Beach.
When flying a kite, remember to keep a safe distance from others,
and be careful on very windy days.
If you're going to play at the beach with kids,
it's a good idea to bring some sand toys or a kite.

And, of course, the indispensable snack time!
We also bought some honey ice cream.
Just enjoying the sea and having an ice cream,
even without a packed itinerary, it truly feels like a vacation.

Sokcho Beach (속초해수욕장) also has plenty of food options nearby,
so it was a great place to relax and grab a snack
without having to travel far.
From Pampas Resort (팜파스리조트)
to Sokcho Beach on Foot
Our accommodation for this trip to Sokcho (속초)
was Pampas Resort.
While we considered many things when choosing our stay,
the fact that we could walk to
Sokcho Beach was a big plus.
It was only about a 5-10 minute walk,
so we didn't need to take the car out.
It was easy to take the kids to see the ocean briefly
and then head back to the accommodation.
Since we were traveling with my in-laws,
we used the Gold Class B Room.
It had two rooms and two bathrooms,
making it comfortable for several people,
and the room was more spacious than I expected, which was very satisfying.
If you're looking for family accommodation near Sokcho Beach,
be sure to compare Pampas Resort.
I've compiled a detailed review of the room interior
and our actual stay separately.
More Places to Enjoy Around Sokcho Beach
If you've come to Sokcho Beach,
surely some of you would find it a shame to just see the ocean and leave, right?
Right in front of the beach, there's the Sokcho Eye Ferris Wheel (속초아이 대관람차),
which is great to combine with a stroll.

The Sokcho Eye ride lasts about 15 minutes,
and it's a Ferris wheel where you can admire the Sokcho ocean
from up high.
The general admission fee is listed as ₩12,000 (~$9) for adults
and ₩6,000 (~$5) for children.
We rode it with the kids on our last visit,
and it goes up higher than you'd expect!
You can see Sokcho city center (속초시내) and the ocean all at once,
and it was absolutely wonderful~!
If you haven't tried it yet, I think it's worth riding at least once!

Another indoor facility worth seeing along with the Ferris wheel is
Angelus Wish Theme Park (앙젤루스 소원테마파크).
It's an experiential exhibition space located in the Sokcho Eye building,
featuring photo zones decorated around the theme of wishes,
making it a great place to explore and take pictures with kids.
We visited this place on our last trip too,
and I remember the kids really enjoyed it~!

Online, they sell admission tickets that can be used
by individuals or families.
If you want to spend more time exploring Sokcho Beach,
or if the weather isn't great and you're looking for indoor attractions,
this place is also a good option~
Sokcho Beach, Is It Worth Visiting in Autumn?
I actually preferred it in autumn.
Even without going into the sea,
we could spend time leisurely walking, sightseeing,
and having snacks.
Of course, the kids got their shoes and socks
completely soaked by an unexpected wave, though, haha!

Sokcho Beach is great for a light stroll,
and if you combine it with nearby tourist attractions like the Sokcho Eye,
you can enjoy a more fulfilling itinerary.
If you're visiting with kids, be careful of the waves
and definitely pack a spare change of clothes.
Otherwise, you might end up returning with wet shoes,
just like us, haha!
