Shanghai 3-Day Itinerary 2026: Disneyland & Costs
Get ready to explore Shanghai! Our 3-day itinerary covers everything from Disneyland thrills to stunning Bund night views, plus a full budget breakdown.

I finally made it!!!
My independent trip to Shanghai 💖
Despite traveling to China multiple times before,
I had somehow never seen the Oriental Pearl Tower...
But I finally conquered Shanghai, from The Bund and Yuyuan Garden
all the way to Shanghai Disneyland! 🎶
Before I dive into the detailed reviews of each spot,
here is a quick overview of our 3-day, 2-night Shanghai itinerary
and a complete breakdown of our travel expenses.
📍 Shanghai
Shanghai, China
Day 1
While most people start their 3-day Shanghai itinerary
by flying into the city,
we actually took a train from Hengdian
to kick off our Shanghai adventure.
As soon as we arrived at Hongqiao Railway Station,
we headed straight to our accommodation to check in.

Our hotel for the first night was the famous
"J Hotel", located in the Shanghai Tower,
one of the tallest buildings in the world.
My sister treated us to this stay to celebrate our 1st anniversary!

Because it's such a high-end hotel with so much to do inside,
we decided to spend most of our first day enjoying the property,
only heading out for absolute must-do activities.
Keep this in mind when planning your own pace!
After fully enjoying the lounge post-check-in,
our first excursion was the highly popular
"Wanghong (Influencer) Makeover Experience".

Honestly... we had already tried a similar dress-up experience
back in Hengdian, but doing it in Shanghai
felt completely new and exciting! lol

We visited a newly remodeled studio,
picked out some incredibly glamorous outfits,
and had a flawless 30-minute professional photoshoot. Hehe.

Since we didn't have much dedicated shopping time,
I was a bit worried about finding gifts for friends back home.
Luckily, there was a shop selling Qingzi hand creams right inside Yuyuan Garden,
so I got all my souvenir shopping done there!

There are also souvenir stalls right next to the
building where we did our makeover,
so it's super convenient to browse before or after your shoot.
After wrapping up our photoshoot, we rushed to get some lamb skewers.

When people think of lamb skewers in China, they usually think of "Henjiu Yiqian",
but we visited "Pan Xiaoxiao",
a Yunnan-style skewer restaurant that's currently super trendy with local Gen Z.

Guys, the skewers here are seriously amazing 👍🏻
I like Henjiu Yiqian too, but Pan Xiaoxiao offers
such a great variety of unique Yunnan-style dishes
that you never get tired of the flavors.
It makes for an incredibly satisfying meal!

Exploring The Bund at night is an absolute must-do in Shanghai,
but because one of our friends had an early flight back home,
we just took a quick stroll to see the Oriental Pearl Tower
before heading back to the hotel to see her off.

We were a bit rushed on time, but
the Shanghai night skyline is truly
something you cannot miss.

If you book a Huangpu River Cruise,
you get to take in the dazzling views of both The Bund
and Pudong all at once. Highly recommend booking a ticket!

After sending our friend off to the airport,
the two of us went to get a massage 🎶

We knew we needed to be fully rested to survive
our Disneyland adventure the next day,
so we looked around Nanjing Road for a good massage spot.

We chose "Kangdao Massage",
which is known as one of the best massage chains in Shanghai.
They apparently have 16 locations across the city,
but since we were planning to visit Miniso anyway,
we went to the branch located in the same building on Nanjing Road.

You can easily book through travel apps,
and both the clean facilities and top-notch massage skills
left us completely satisfied 💖
We loved it so much that we actually ran straight back
here the next night after Disneyland!
If you're looking for a high-quality, affordable massage in Shanghai,
definitely check them out.
Pro tip: Booking online is cheaper than paying walk-in rates,
so make sure to reserve in advance!
Day 2
Today's main event:
"Shanghai Disneyland"
I finally made it to Disneyland! *cries happy tears*
But as travelers in our 30s, pacing ourselves is the biggest issue.
Since our hotel allowed late check-out,
we decided to skip the morning rush and focus all our energy on the afternoon.

First, we had a hearty breakfast.
Then, we had a freelance makeup artist (whom we booked in advance)
come to our room to get us glammed up for Disney 🎶

Since it was going to be hot at the theme park, I had my hair braided to one side.
I showed her a natural makeup reference from Douyin (Chinese TikTok),
and she nailed the cute look! Hehe.
I'll post a detailed review of this makeup service soon.
+TIP
We had late check-out guaranteed, but
if you don't, you can still make the most of your morning.
Shanghai is famous for its incredible coffee culture,
so going on a morning cafe hopping tour is a great option!
We did some window shopping at the nearby IFC Mall,
checked into our next hotel,
and then headed straight to Disneyland.

Honestly, I thought it would be less crowded since it was a weekday,
but the crowds were insane! ㅠ

Even so, by constantly checking wait times on the app
and mapping out the most efficient routes,
we actually managed to get on a surprisingly high number of rides!

The one I was looking forward to the most: "TRON Lightcycle Power Run".
I thought my friend would be fine with it,
but she backed out right at the entrance!

So I ended up riding it solo...
My heart was pounding out of my chest while waiting in line...
But it wasn't as terrifying as I expected!
It was exactly the right amount of thrill for me,
and I completely understand why everyone hypes up TRON.
Considering we entered the park in the late afternoon,
we rode quite a few attractions and felt pretty accomplished,
though I'm still a bit sad we missed the Zootopia area 😢
We stayed all the way through the fireworks show
before finally leaving the park.

I totally get why Disneyland is considered a mandatory
stop on any Shanghai itinerary.
Next time, I'm buying the Disney Premier Access (DPA)
so I can experience Zootopia and everything else without the wait! 💖
On our way back to the hotel,
our feet felt like they were literally on fire.
We immediately bought tickets for Kangdao Massage on our phones,
stopped by for a session, and then finally crashed at our hotel.
Day 3
Since we had a midday flight
back home on Day 3,
our last day basically consisted of waking up,
checking out, and heading straight to the airport.

However, Shanghai offers plenty of flight times.
If you want to maximize your trip,
I highly recommend booking an evening flight
so you can squeeze in a few more activities on your final morning.

For example, you could visit the iconic Wukang Mansion for photos,
or hit up a nearby mall
for some last-minute souvenir shopping before heading out.
3-Day Shanghai Trip Budget Breakdown
Our total expenses for this 3-day, 2-night trip
came out to ~$269 per person.
Please note that this budget
excludes flights and hotel costs.

We always fly Korean Air, and our luxury hotel
was quite expensive this time around,
so I left those out to give you a more standard baseline.
You can add your own flight and accommodation costs
based on your personal travel style.
Our biggest single expense was,
ironically, the Shanghai Disneyland ticket.

Even though we planned well in advance
and bought discounted Early Bird tickets on Trip.com,
it still cost over ~$69.
If you're planning to visit Disneyland,
definitely book Early Bird tickets to save some cash.

Our next biggest expenses were the Influencer Makeover
and the freelance makeup artist.
Aside from that, food and public transportation in China
are incredibly cheap, so we didn't feel any financial strain.

Because daily expenses in China are so affordable
compared to other travel destinations,
your budget will be very reasonable if you skip
big-ticket items like theme parks or professional photoshoots.

We went with the mindset of "let's do everything we haven't done yet"
and didn't hold back on the famous tourist activities.
But if you tailor the itinerary to your own preferences,
you can easily do this trip for much less than we did.
I can't believe I've traveled to China so much over the past year
and am only just now experiencing Shanghai like this.. 😂
Three days felt way too short,
and I'm already itching to go back.
Next time, I'm packing my schedule even tighter
to hit all the spots I missed this time around! 🎶
