Sejong Presidential Archives: Free Indoor Fun for Families (2026)
Looking for a hidden gem in Sejong? The Presidential Archives offers surprisingly diverse and engaging exhibits for free! Perfect for families, it's an ideal indoor escape from any weather, showcasing Korean history and global diplomacy.
When you search for things to do in Sejong City, outdoor spots like Sejong Lake Park or the National Sejong Arboretum often come to mind first.
But what about those days when it's raining, too hot, or simply not ideal for outdoor exploration? You need a fantastic indoor option!
This past August, my in-laws visited from Busan and Sancheong for a housewarming, and we decided to explore the Sejong Presidential Archives.
Initially, I expected a dry, formal museum. But to my surprise, we had a blast! We posed for photos on a replica of the presidential inauguration stage, explored recreated spaces from the Blue House, and marveled at fascinating gifts from around the world.
A Family Outing to Sejong City

Our housewarming turned into a lovely overnight stay since family traveled quite a distance. After lunch and a tour of our new home, we planned a family outing.
We initially thought about heading to Gongju, but my family wasn't too keen. Looking back, I think the long drive to Sejong had already taken its toll, and they weren't eager for more time in the car.
So, we pivoted to finding an indoor attraction in Sejong that wouldn't require much travel and would be immune to the weather. The Presidential Archives fit the bill perfectly!
Visiting the Presidential Archives on a Rainy Day

The Presidential Archives is conveniently located near Sejong Lake Park. Even though my husband and I live in Sejong and have driven past it countless times, this was our first time exploring inside. Operating hours are from 10 AM to 6 PM, and best of all, admission is completely free! This made it an easy, stress-free choice for a family outing.

However, just as we parked, the skies opened up, and it started pouring! We only had two umbrellas! We began shuttling family members from the car to the entrance, but the wind picked up so fiercely that one umbrella broke! Talk about a dramatic entrance! One family member couldn't even make it out of the car.

In hindsight, choosing the Presidential Archives that day was an absolute stroke of genius. If we'd opted for an outdoor attraction, our plans would have been completely washed out.
Surprisingly Engaging Exhibitions at the Presidential Archives

On the first floor, the first thing that caught our eye was an exhibition featuring portraits of past presidents, cleverly created from various words and phrases.
While some visitors walked right past, we spent a surprisingly long time here, chatting about the accomplishments of the presidents we remembered.

Next, we took the elevator up to the fourth floor. Here, we found videos and records detailing the activities of past presidents. It was much more engaging than expected, and we lingered at the screens for quite a while.

The presidential inauguration stage was particularly memorable. It might seem simple, but stepping onto it and taking photos was surprisingly fun.
Each family member took their turn for a photo op. There's something about standing on that stage that makes you feel a bit important, like you should clear your throat and give a speech!

On the third floor, you'll find meticulously recreated spaces, including the presidential office and reception rooms. It was a surreal experience to see the rooms I'd only ever glimpsed on TV or in newspapers growing up, right before my eyes.
The Most Engaging Exhibition: Presidential Gifts

My favorite part of the museum was on the second floor: an exhibition showcasing gifts presented to presidents from countries all over the world.

My in-laws also found this area fascinating. They had always assumed that gifts received by presidents were personal property, so they were amazed to see them on public display.

I enjoyed comparing the gifts and seeing what each country chose to present.
From accessories and vases to wine glasses, the variety was incredible. As you browse, you naturally find yourself thinking, 'Which one would I pick?' or 'What's my favorite?' It's a fun way to engage with the exhibits, even if you're not a history buff.
It's an accessible space, even for those who aren't inclined to read every historical document from start to finish.
A Great Sejong Attraction for Parents and All Ages

Before our visit, I expected the Presidential Archives to be quiet and perhaps a bit stuffy. But after exploring it with my family, I truly understood why it's such a popular spot for parents and older generations.

The themes of past presidents and the Blue House resonate strongly with the older generation, sparking conversations and shared memories as they viewed the exhibits.
The ease of movement within the indoor space, with elevators and escalators, was also a huge plus. Since we were all adults, we didn't use the Children's Experience Room. If you're visiting with kids, it's a good idea to check its current operating status and usage guidelines beforehand.

We wanted to show our family a bit of Sejong, and the Presidential Archives offered a surprisingly diverse range of attractions.
Our entry was a bit chaotic – the rain poured down the moment we arrived, and an umbrella even broke! But once inside, we could explore at our leisure, completely unbothered by the weather. (And what a bonus: the rain had stopped by the time we left!)
The exhibition of gifts received by presidents was entertaining, and we really enjoyed taking photos and sharing laughs with family.
While outdoor attractions often come to mind first when thinking of things to do in Sejong, the Presidential Archives is an excellent alternative, especially when traveling with parents or when outdoor plans are hampered by rain or heat.
