Because motorized vehicles and scooters are completely banned on the Gili Islands, you can enjoy a peaceful, exhaust-free walk. Plus, the coastal views along the way are absolutely stunning!

Instead of cars, transportation here consists entirely of horse-drawn carriages (known locally as cidomos), bicycles, and your own two feet. I rented a bicycle to explore, which is highly recommended since the island is small enough to cycle around in about an hour. It’s also incredibly fun to grab a drink at a local beach pub and take a horse cart back to the resort at night.

Cycling around the island is a must-do experience! Just keep to the left, stay hydrated, and wear plenty of sunscreen—the tropical sun is intense, and my tan lines from this trip are still going strong!

After checking in, we received a beautiful wooden room key that perfectly matched the rustic Balinese aesthetic. Scallywags is also famous for its beachfront seafood restaurant, which serves up incredible fresh catches right by the water. I only ended up eating breakfast here, but I highly recommend trying their dinner menu too!

The resort features a charming shared pool right next to the breakfast area, but we didn't end up using it because we had our own private plunge pool waiting for us in our room!

The resort offers both Garden View Rooms and Private Pool Rooms. Since it was our first time on Gili Trawangan, we decided to treat ourselves to the private plunge pool option. Gili Trawangan is incredibly affordable, and we booked this private pool oasis for under ~$128 per night! The value is absolutely unbeatable.

Having a private pool is a game-changer. After spending the day snorkeling and swimming in the ocean, you can come straight back to your room and jump right into the freshwater pool to rinse off the salt and sand before taking a warm shower.

You can also enjoy authentic Indonesian dishes like pork satay or classic Nasi Goreng right at the resort. The food is beautifully presented, incredibly delicious, and makes for perfect vacation photos.

Gili Trawangan truly felt like heaven on earth. The water is so transparent that you can see right to the ocean floor. While we didn't spot any sea turtles on this specific morning, they are known to frequent the shallow waters right in front of the beach during the early hours!
