Sapporo's iconic soup curry is a must-try! We visited Suage 2 to compare its wait times and flavor to the famously popular Suage Plus. Discover our honest take and tips for your visit.

Sapporo Soup Curry Suage 2
Waiting Times & Main Branch Comparison
When you think of delicious soup curry in Sapporo, Suage is undoubtedly one of the first names that comes to mind! Its location right on Susukino Street makes it incredibly convenient, and its popularity soared even further after being featured on Chu Sung-hoon's YouTube channel.
During my latest trip to Sapporo, I planned to visit again, but the wait at the main branch was just too long. So, this time, I decided to check out their branch location instead.

Suage 2, the branch location, is conveniently situated right next to the main branch, Suage Plus. If the main branch has a long line, the staff will often direct you to the adjacent Suage 2, which is super helpful!

Waiting

Remember, it's cash payment only, and they don't take reservations, so it's strictly walk-ins.
If the main branch has a line of, say, 100 people, Suage 2 might have around 50. I waited about 40 minutes from signing up to being seated and eating.

The waiting area is quite small, so it can get really crowded when there are a lot of people.
Also, while it states they're open until 8:30 PM, they often stop accepting new customers around 7:30 PM if the waiting list is too long.
If you're planning to have dinner, I recommend arriving by at least 6:30 PM to secure your spot.
Ambiance

Suage 2 has a generally clean and well-organized atmosphere. Seating is primarily at tables, but there were also quite a few counter seats available.

Ordering is made easy via a QR code located on each table. You can also view the menu through the QR code.
Menu

The menu is essentially identical to the main branch, Suage Plus. They offer a variety of soup curries with different bases like chicken leg, vegetables, seafood, and various meats. You can also add extra toppings to customize your bowl.
Personally, I highly recommend the Braised Pork Curry over the chicken leg option! This is actually the dish that was featured on Chu Sung-hoon's YouTube channel.
Soup Curry Experience

The first photo shows the braised pork curry from Suage 2, and the second is the same dish from the Suage Plus main branch. Can you spot the subtle difference in the meat's color?
While many reviews claim there's no significant difference between the two branches, I personally found the taste to be distinct. At the main branch, the first bite of pork was absolutely divine, truly memorable. Here at Suage 2, it was still a delicious soup curry, but it lacked that 'wow' factor.

Perhaps because of the high volume of customers, the broth felt a little cooler than usual, which made it taste slightly less rich than I remembered.

Of course, I'm not saying it wasn't good at all! It was still a delicious meal. However, it just wasn't quite the same as the unforgettable experience I had at the main Suage branch. If you're going in with expectations based on the main branch's flavor, you might find yourself a little underwhelmed.
I ordered my curry at spice level 4, and it wasn't spicy at all. If you love heat, I'd suggest going for level 5 or higher!

The plain lassi and draft beer were just as delicious as ever, though! Haha.
Unless the waiting line is absolutely absurd, I would still recommend heading to the Suage Plus main branch over Suage 2!
