Soup Curry King Sapporo Review 2026: Menu, Spice & Wait Time
Uncover Sapporo's hidden gem, Soup Curry King, a life-changing culinary experience. Learn about their must-try menu, spice options, and how to manage the wait.

When you think of Sapporo, you simply *have* to try soup curry, right?
I'd actually visited a couple of soup curry specialty restaurants back home, but I remember being quite disappointed, so I was a bit worried if it would be any different in Sapporo.
During my 4-night, 5-day trip to Sapporo, I ended up visiting three different soup curry spots. The first two didn't quite meet my expectations. So, with a final glimmer of hope, I walked into this place: Soup Curry King.
Let me cut straight to the chase: this place has officially been crowned my all-time favorite soup curry restaurant!

Location

Soup Curry King is simply the best, the absolute king! Just come, wait in line, order anything, and enjoy. Seriously, please do.
But if I put it that way, you might not come, right? So, let's dive into the details! You can find 'Soup Curry King Central Branch' even if you search for it in Korean on Google. It's about a 10-minute walk from Susukino Station, and you won't see people waiting from far away because it's underground~!!

The line starts on the stairway leading down.
*Please order one dish per person. Kindly refrain from bringing outside food. Please wait in line together. Signs indicating that card payments are not accepted, among other things, are posted.

While you're waiting, they'll bring you a menu, so you can take your time deciding. 'Refreshing, Rich, Delicious!! (?)'
'Today's meal builds tomorrow's body.' The wise sayings just keep coming!
Menu

There are 10 menu items in total. Among them, my top recommendation is the 'Chicken Vegetable Curry.' Don't just order the regular chicken curry; choose the one with added 'vegetables,' and you absolutely can't go wrong!

I'm not particularly fond of beef, natto, or lamb options. So, pick from the five menu items on the left side.

Choosing your spice level is also crucial. People from Korea generally enjoy a subtle kick, so I recommend selecting Level 4, which is similar to the spice level of Shin Ramyun.
Around Level 4-5 will give you a delightful, pleasant spiciness. Don't choose any of those strange ones like Jack, Queen, King, or Joker – they contain 'Death Sauce' and are seriously dangerous!
Even if you choose the standard soup and rice portions, you'll be perfectly full.

Also, feel free to check out the other beverages, desserts, and draft beer. I visited around 8 PM on a weekday and waited for 40 minutes to get in. During peak lunch and dinner hours, you might have to wait for over an hour, so I recommend visiting during off-peak times.
Interior

There aren't a huge number of seats inside. When you factor in the cooking time and eating time, the turnover isn't particularly fast. Honestly, it was pretty rare to find a restaurant in Sapporo without a wait during my trip!

Single seats are also available for solo diners. I was directed to a seat near the path to the restroom.

After placing my order, I waited for about 10 minutes.

The rice and poached egg arrived first. Since I added Onsen Tamago (hot spring egg) and broccoli as toppings, they served the egg separately like this.

Then my vegetable soup curry arrived. Honestly, my first impression of the soup curry wasn't great.

The rice wasn't anything special, not particularly sticky or unique, and the soup curry in question... it wasn't even red! It actually had a rather yellowish hue.
I even wondered, "Huh? I ordered spicy, did they get my order wrong?" It just looked so unappetizing at first glance.

I decided to take a spoonful of the broth first.
Oh. My. Goodness??
It was a truly shocking flavor, so good that it made me completely forget every other soup curry I'd ever tasted!
I was so surprised, I had to take a second, then a third spoonful, just to confirm!

This soup curry is unbelievably good – almost unfairly so!
It brought tears to my eyes to finally discover a truly incredible restaurant after such a long time! Only then did I fully understand the description written on the menu. Their claim of 'luxurious use of kelp, anchovies, and bonito flakes' was no exaggeration whatsoever.

The second unbelievably amazing flavor was the broccoli. That deep, slightly charred taste of the broccoli is truly something only those who've experienced it can understand. If you don't add it as an extra topping, you'll only get one piece, so seriously, make sure you add more!

And the third incredible shock was the chicken! The moment you gently poke the chicken with your fork, it just melts right off the bone. Seriously, it's so incredibly tender that even someone without teeth could easily enjoy it. I'm not exaggerating – it truly felt like it had been simmered for at least 20 hours.

The harmony of all the other vegetables was also simply beautiful. It was truly a moving experience to discover the soup curry of a lifetime at what I thought would be my very last stop on this trip!
So, there you have it – my introduction to Soup Curry King Central, truly a top-tier soup curry destination in Sapporo! If any of my friends are ever visiting Sapporo, I'd wholeheartedly recommend this as a must-visit. Trust me, it's a place absolutely worth experiencing, even if you have to wait an hour!
