Sapporo New Chitose Airport Souvenirs
Shopping List: Snow Cheese
When you’re planning your souvenir haul from a trip to Sapporo, many travelers head straight to New Chitose Airport (CTS).
While Sapporo city offers plenty of shopping, the airport is so expansive and packed with stores that you could easily spend an entire day there!
📍 New Chitose Airport
Bibi, Chitose, Hokkaido 066-0012 Japan

It’s worth noting that New Chitose Airport's domestic terminal, not the international one, is where you'll find the most attractions, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
The signage is excellent, so just follow the directions for the domestic terminal, and you'll get there in no time.

You'll find everything from a Pokémon Store and Royce' Chocolate World to a Hello Kitty Cafe, along with countless dining and shopping options.
While Royce' chocolate is a popular choice, I was keen on finding a souvenir exclusive to Hokkaido.

Initially, I thought about getting Yubari melon, but I preferred fresh melon from the city over airport desserts or candies. So, this time, I opted for Snow Cheese, a treat supposedly exclusive to Sapporo!
You'll spot the Snow Cheese store easily as you wander around the second floor of the domestic terminal.

Hokkaido is renowned for its dairy products like milk and cheese, and Snow Cheese is a dessert crafted from Hokkaido-produced raw milk and the expertise of Japanese cheese artisans.
It's truly the perfect dessert to bring home as a souvenir!

Even though the line was long, it moved surprisingly fast, and I only waited for about 10 minutes.

Snow Cheese is sold at two locations: Daikaru Department Store and New Chitose Airport. The department store opens at 10 AM, but people start lining up as early as 8:30 AM for a chance to buy it!

The line at New Chitose Airport is shorter than at the department store, but sales are limited to two specific times: 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Plus, there's a purchase limit of 3 items per person.
I arrived around 10:30 AM on my trip in late July 2026, and unfortunately, the Snow Gold Cheese was already sold out.

Snow Gold Cheese, with its crunchy sablé cookie topped with a generous piece of yellow cheese chocolate, is the most popular item among their products.

White Cheese is almost as popular as the Gold Cheese. By the time it was my turn, this product was also nearly sold out.
These are langue de chat cookies filled with soft cheese chocolate. While they might seem similar to the Gold Cheese, their texture and taste are quite different.
The price is ~$9 for 8 pieces and ~$13 for 12 pieces.

This is a chewy cheesecake made with both cream cheese and Edam cheese. Unlike typical cheesecakes, it has a denser texture, and small diced cheese pieces are added for an interesting bite.
The price is the same as the White Cheese: ~$9 for 8 pieces and ~$13 for 12 pieces.

I ended up buying one White Cheese and one Cream & Edam. I gave one as a gift and kept the White Cheese for myself.
When packing, they asked if I needed dry ice. Since the flight was relatively short (about 2.5 hours), I decided against it. Instead, I refrigerated them as soon as I got home.

Each piece is individually wrapped, making them convenient to enjoy one at a time. The packaging also looks very premium, perfect for a gift souvenir.

I purchased mine in late July 2026, and the expiry date was about two months out, putting it around late September 2026.

The long stick cookie is generously filled with cheese chocolate all the way through. Doesn't it look a bit like a crepe?
The texture is incredibly crispy, and you can immediately tell the cheese chocolate is of exceptional quality.

Rather than being overly sweet, the rich, savory taste of the cheese truly shines, harmonizing beautifully with the surrounding cookie. It’s a flavor profile that appeals to all ages.

Snow Cheese, a unique find only available during your Hokkaido Sapporo trip! With its universally appealing and sophisticated taste, it’s an absolute must-have for your shopping list, souvenirs, or gifts. Highly recommended!
Snow Cheese is sold on the 2nd floor of the domestic terminal at New Chitose Airport. There are more attractions and souvenir shops in the domestic terminal than in the international terminal, so you can easily find it by following the signs for the domestic terminal.
Yes, at the New Chitose Airport store, sales times are limited to two sessions: 8 AM and 3 PM. Additionally, each person can purchase a maximum of 3 items.
Both the White Cheese and Cream & Edam Cheese Cake are ~$8 for 8 pieces and ~$12 for 12 pieces. The most popular Snow Gold Cheese tends to sell out quickly.
If the flight time is short, around 2 hours and 30 minutes, it might be fine without dry ice, but it's best to refrigerate it immediately upon arriving home. Based on a purchase at the end of July, the shelf life is a little over 2 months.
