As I was preparing for my own upcoming winter trip to Sapporo this December,

A comparison of locations, prices, and features for 3 downtown Sapporo hotels for a December trip.

⭐️ Today's Travel Difficulty ★★☆

All three hotels I recommend are conveniently located downtown, so their locations are quite straightforward.

However, the upcoming December is peak season for Sapporo travel,

so if you don't book now, you might end up paying two or even three times the price.

📌 Just a heads-up, this post is based on reservations made in advance for a stay in December.

Since I haven't actually stayed there yet, I'll post separate reviews for each hotel once I'm back from my trip.

Today, I'll focus on why I chose these three places and what the prices were like.

1. Why You Should Book Your Sapporo Hotel Now

My trip is in December, but I've already finished my bookings now in August.

The reason is simple:

First off, Sapporo's peak season kicks off in December.

With the snow season coinciding with the White Illumination festival,

hotel prices skyrocket as the travel dates get closer.

I was actually eyeing some hotels in July,

but now in August, the prices have already gone up by ~$7-~$14 each.

What's more, I secured all three bookings with free cancellation options, so there's no pressure.

You can grab a good price now, and if your plans change, you can simply cancel.

If you don't book now, you might end up paying dozens of dollars more for the same room later.

My first hotel recommendation!

It's Onsen Ryokan Yuen Sapporo.

When you go to Sapporo, you want to enjoy a hot spring at a ryokan, right?

That's why I chose Onsen Ryokan Yuen Sapporo.

So, why did I choose this place?

I was looking for a ryokan with a large public bath (daikokuen) in Sapporo,

but most of the famous onsen ryokans were too far from the city center.

Onsen towns like Jozankei are wonderful, but

traveling there would have been too much of a hassle to combine with Sapporo city sightseeing.

I chose Yuen Sapporo because it's right in the city center, yet still lets you enjoy an onsen.

You can experience both the authentic ryokan atmosphere and a public bath without disrupting your sightseeing itinerary.

At around ~$138, I thought it offered pretty good value for a city-center ryokan.

This is for a standard room with free cancellation.

* If you really want to immerse yourself in the ambiance, I recommend the Corner Room. It's a bit pricier, but you get both the ryokan experience and amazing views.

3. Unlimited Draft Beer: Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park

Next up is the Grand Mercure Sapporo Odori Park.

The lounge here was the deciding factor for me.

So, why did I pick this one?

You get free access to the lounge, and here's the best part: Sapporo draft beer, coffee, and wine are all unlimited!

When you come to Sapporo, you have to try Sapporo beer, right? And you can enjoy it unlimitedly right in the lounge!

It's a bit of a distance from Sapporo Station and Susukino Station, but it's definitely within walking distance. But above all, at a price in the late ~$100s with unlimited beer and wine, there was no reason not to choose it!

Room sizes start from a spacious 24㎡,

which is quite large for a Japanese hotel!

4. Sapporo Stream Hotel: Ultra-Prime Location

My third choice, the Sapporo Stream Hotel, was an instant decision purely based on its location.

It's a brand-new hotel, established in 2024, and with reviews praising its cleanliness and comfort, there was no need to hesitate.

Why did I choose it, you ask?

It's located right in front of the building with the famous Susukino Nikka Whiskey billboard.

The location was so perfect that I booked it immediately.

Being in the heart of Susukino means ramen, izakayas, and Genghis Khan BBQ are all within walking distance at night.

Plus, the night view from the hotel terrace is absolutely stunning!

There are two room types, and I opted for the Superior Double Room (24.2㎡). It's quite spacious for a Japanese hotel, so there should be plenty of room to open up my suitcase.

Reviews from Korean visitors also consistently rated it around 10 out of 10, so I booked with confidence!

Since breakfast is said to be delicious, I booked it along with the room.

They say it features Hokkaido specialties like tuna, salmon, Sapporo soup curry, and lamb.

I'll share my experience and review after I've actually tried it.

✔️ Here's a travel tip!

Susukino is the hub for nightlife and food, so if you plan to enjoy yourself late into the night, staying inside Susukino will save you from transportation stress.

By the way, for the Stream Hotel, I noticed that Yeogieottae had fewer available rooms.

So, I compared the real-time prices on Trip.com, which was the next cheapest option.
