Sapporo Hotel by Granbell: The Bunker Room Experience
Spacious, well-ventilated, sparkling clean, and featuring an absolutely incredible public bath!
We are currently in the middle of planning our summer getaway!
We decided on Japan, but we spent so much time debating exactly where to go.
Then we remembered our past trip to Sapporo,
and we immediately wanted to go back.
Compared to other popular regions in Japan,
summer in Sapporo is incredibly pleasant—not too hot,
with low humidity (usually sitting in the comfortable 70s°F).
It is highly recommended for families traveling with children!
Our group of two moms and two kids spent 3 nights here,
and our satisfaction level was easily 20,000%!
Here is our honest review of the amazing
Sapporo Hotel by Granbell.

The Ultimate Bunker Room: Perfect for Families with Kids!
When booking accommodation in Sapporo,
our biggest concerns were space and ventilation.
If you have traveled to Japan before, you know the struggle—
rooms are often tiny, and you can barely crack a window open.
But this hotel completely solved those issues for us!

The bunker room set-up felt like a secret fort for the kids.
Our two girls claimed the top bunk as their private playground
and were absolutely thrilled from the moment we walked in.

The bedding was pristine,
and the kids loved the novel experience of sleeping in a cozy loft.
Having the space split into levels was fantastic
for keeping things organized with two adults and two kids.
The room layout is incredibly efficient.
We could easily lay out two large suitcases
without feeling cramped at all.
Plus, there are 4 actual beds in total!
How amazing is that?
The stairs might be a bit tricky for toddlers,
so we might not recommend it for very young children,
but for kids aged 7 and up, or even teenagers,
it is hands down the best room setup you can find.
Honestly, it is also a fantastic option
for a group of four adult friends traveling together!

The Onsen-Style Public Bath is Pure Heaven!
The absolute deciding factor for booking this hotel
was the incredible public bath (onsen).
Let’s be real—having four girls/moms
take turns showering in a standard, tiny hotel bathroom
every morning and night is an exhausting chore.
So, a spacious public bath was a non-negotiable for us.
The bath house at Sapporo Hotel by Granbell
even features a gorgeous open-air outdoor bath!
Soaking in the warm water and letting the day’s fatigue melt away
was pure bliss. We looked forward to it every single day.
We did not even have to nag the kids to wash up;
they were always the first to grab their towels and head up!
After walking miles with the kids all day,
soaking our tired legs in the hot spring water
recharged us completely for the next day.
An onsen experience is truly the highlight
of any trip to Japan.
Perfect Location: Playground & Convenience Store Right Next Door!

There is a charming little playground right in front of the hotel,
which quickly became the kids’ favorite daily hangout.
They loved playing on the swings and chatting,
while we grabbed delicious snacks from the convenience store next door
to enjoy back in our room.
These simple moments ended up being some of our most cherished memories!

Because the bunker room features bunk beds and stairs, we recommend it for elementary and middle school-aged children (7 years and older) rather than toddlers or infants. It has a total of four beds, allowing adults and children to have separate spaces for a more comfortable stay.
Yes, the hotel's public bath includes an open-air bath. It offers a clean and luxurious environment, perfect for soothing tired legs after a long day of walking and sightseeing.
There is a small playground right in front of the hotel that is great for kids. Additionally, a convenience store is located right next door, making it very easy to grab snacks.
