Looking for an affordable yet comfortable stay in Sapporo? The Sapporo Excel Hotel Tokyu near Susukino offers excellent value, spacious rooms, and a delightful breakfast experience. Read our full 2026 review!
During my last Hokkaido adventure, I had the pleasure of staying at the Sapporo Excel Hotel Tokyu, and I'm excited to share my experience with you. Let's dive right in!
Pros
Sapporo Hotel Recommendation
My friend took charge of booking this time, and unlike my usual choices, she opted for a relatively larger hotel. It was easy to spot from a distance, which was a huge plus after a long day of travel. Its substantial size meant a well-appointed breakfast area and even a currency exchange machine in the lobby. While the exchange rate might not be the absolute best, it's incredibly convenient for those last-minute cash needs!
Cons
Sapporo Susukino Accommodation

If I had to pick a downside, it would be that you need to walk a little to reach the main entertainment district. The hotel is situated between Susukino Station and Nakajima-Koen Station, leaning slightly closer to Nakajima-Koen. While a quick stroll will get you to the edge of the main area (where you'll find places like Daruma), there isn't much right around the hotel itself, apart from a cozy local pub directly across the street.
We actually ended up at that local pub one rainy evening when we couldn't make it to the main street. It was perfectly fine for a quick meal and a beer, but if you're looking for a lively atmosphere to truly soak in the travel vibes, you might find it a tad quiet.
Room, Bathroom, Toilet
The room condition and bedding were quite good. Given that accommodation in Japan can often be on the pricier side, getting this level of quality for the price makes it a genuinely great value hotel in Sapporo.
The bathroom was well-stocked with amenities and even featured a bathtub – perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. And in typical Japanese fashion, the mirror had an anti-fog treatment, which is a small but thoughtful touch!
Breakfast
I'm usually not a breakfast person back home, but since it was included, I decided to check it out. And wow, I was pleasantly surprised by the spread! They offered a fantastic variety, from traditional rice dishes and baked goods to unique Japanese options like natto (fermented soybeans) – truly something for everyone.
One clever detail I appreciated was the "table occupied" sign. When dining alone, it can sometimes be awkward leaving your spot to get more food, but this thoughtful touch made it easy. And when you finished your meal and flipped the sign, it revealed a lovely "Thank you very much. Have a nice day!" message – a small gesture that really added to the experience.
I originally planned to just snap a few photos and grab a quick bite, but I ended up indulging in a full feast, including a variety of delicious desserts! If you're not overly concerned about being right in the heart of the action, and want a comfortable stay that offers great value, I highly recommend the Sapporo Excel Hotel Tokyu.
And if you appreciate a tranquil environment, a stroll through the nearby Nakajima-Koen Park is highly recommended – it's just a short walk away.
