Don Quijote shopping time is an absolute must-do during your trip to Japan!
In Sapporo city, there are two Don Quijote stores:
the Tanukikoji branch and the Susukino branch.
The Tanukikoji branch is open 24 hours and is much larger,
so it's better to head to the main Tanukikoji store.

It's a huge Don Quijote, spanning from B2 all the way up to the 4th floor!

It has a total of 6 floors, and you'll need to go to the 4th floor for tax-free checkout.
The lines can get super long, so I recommend having one person queue up

I'll be recommending a mix of universally popular items
plus some unique products you can only find in Sapporo!

✅ Ohta's Isan A (120 tablets ~$7)
Ohta's Isan is famous as Japan's national digestive medicine.
The regular Ohta's Isan comes in powder form,
but Ohta's Isan A is the tablet version,
making it easier to take and super portable.
It's enhanced with fat and protein-digesting enzymes,
so it works quickly when you feel bloated or have overeaten.
✅ Soy Sauce Egg Rice Sauce (~$4)
This is Don Quijote's own brand product, making it easy
to whip up some soy sauce egg rice.
I just tried drizzling it over rice,
and it genuinely tasted like soy sauce egg rice – it was amazing, haha!
Since all you have to do is squeeze it out, cleanup is a breeze,
and the taste is just like making it from scratch
(maybe even better, dare I say?)
Highly recommended!
✅ Cororo Konjac Jelly (~$2)
Konjac jelly is a popular snack to buy,
but if you want to bring it back to your home country,
you must buy the ones packaged in individual pouches.
Cororo jelly is well-packaged in individual pouches,
and it's wrapped in a collagen film, giving it a uniquely delicious texture.
By the way, there's also a larger volume version sold separately!
✅ Bourbon Alfort (~$1-~$1)
These are famous as Japan's version of Bintz biscuits.
They come in a wide variety of flavors like strawberry, green tea, and cookies & cream.
The classic flavor is ~$1, and the most expensive green tea flavor goes up to ~$1.
They look exactly like Korean Bintz but are more affordable,
and they taste great too! The biscuit under the chocolate is super crunchy.
✅ Hokkaido Cheese Cake (~$3, ~$4)
Hokkaido is famous for its dairy products, so cheese
is a popular souvenir and gift.
They sell a variety of items like cakes and cookies,
and their excellent packaging makes them great gifts for adults.
After trying it myself, the taste is less like a cheesecake
and more like a castella (sponge cake) with a hint of cheese flavor.
It's perfect for a light refreshment.
✅ Sake (Dassai 23 - 300ml ~$20)
Dassai 23, which I bought as a gift for my father-in-law!
It's one of Japan's most famous brands,
and the price difference compared to Korea is over ~$69.
They do sell it at Don Quijote in Sapporo,
but it's so popular that it's often out of stock.
If you can't find it, I recommend checking out Don Quijote Susukino store or
Daimaru Department Store.
✅ Ichiban Otafuku Yakisoba Ramen (~$1)
This is a yakisoba cup ramen, a collaboration between Sapporo Ichiban,
a famous ramen brand in Japan, and Otafuku, renowned for its okonomiyaki sauce.
For a cup ramen, the yakisoba sauce flavor is incredibly rich,
and it tastes quite good, making it perfect for a quick and easy meal.
By the way, many people buy various medicines like cold medicine and pain relievers in Japan,
but the regulations have changed, so
now only one item per person can be purchased per transaction.
Most of you probably know that Eve painkillers are prohibited,
and all the ones you see in the picture—Eve A, Eve A EX, Eve Quick, etc.—
are completely banned from import.
Now, only Eve Three Shot Premium and regular Eve, which don't contain allyl isopropylacetylurea,
can be brought into the country.
But the price is an astonishing ~$14;;
At that price, I'd rather just buy regular painkillers in Korea.
I didn't think it was worth paying that much for, so I didn't buy any.
✅ Oral Ulcer Patch (~$5-6)
I bought an oral ulcer patch in gel form for ~$6,
but actually, I meant to buy the patch type and got the wrong one.
I thought a gel form would just melt in my mouth,
but it solidifies surprisingly quickly and is tasteless.
I apply it whenever I get a canker sore, and it definitely reduces the pain,
and helps me avoid touching it, which is great. I highly recommend it!
✅ Yubari Melon
Oh, the Yubari Melon I so desperately wanted...ㅠㅠ
It's a melon you can only taste in the Hokkaido region,
and they sell it by the slice in the food section on the B2 floor of Don Quijote.
I went late at night, and they were all sold out, so
I couldn't buy any... If you miss out,
even just Yubari Melon caramels
are great to munch on when you're feeling peckish.
✅ Soup Curry Garaku (~$5-7)
This is a meal kit that recreates the curry from Garaku,
a famous soup curry restaurant that you can only taste in Sapporo.
The yellow one is regular, and the pink one is spicy,
but honestly, even the spicy one isn't very spicy for Korean palates.
Of course, it's not exactly the same taste as eating at the Garaku restaurant,
but it's great to have on hand when you're craving soup curry back home.

To get a duty-free discount at Don Quijote Tanukikoji store,
you have to line up at the 4th-floor counter,
and you'll mostly see Koreans, and it gets incredibly crowded.
Your passport and discount coupon are essential items,

When you're ready to pay, simply show the barcode page to the staff along with your passport,
and they'll scan it to apply your discount!
You'll find many staff members who speak Korean,
so you won't even need to say much – they'll handle everything seamlessly for you.
Finally, when it comes to payment, they'll ask if you want to pay in JPY (Japanese Yen) or
USD (US Dollar).
It's almost always more beneficial to choose JPY due to the exchange rate,
so make sure to select JPY.
Just a heads-up: while Don Quijote boasts 24-hour operation, if you go too late at night,
the food sections might have many items sold out, and due to card system maintenance times,
you might find yourself unable to pay. So, I highly recommend visiting a bit earlier in the evening if you can!
Even at midnight, it's far from empty... it's absolutely packed! 😅
The Tanukikoji Main Store consists of a total of 6 floors, from B2F to 4F. The medicine and health food section, along with the tax-free counter, are located on the 4th floor, and the food section is on B2F.
Eve A, Eve A EX, and Eve Quick cannot be brought into Korea. Only Eve ThreeShot Premium or regular Eve, which do not contain Allylisopropylacetylurea, can be brought into the country. The price of Eve ThreeShot Premium is ~$14.
Tax-free discount coupons can be issued through the KakaoTalk channel (pf.kakao.com). You can receive a 10% tax exemption benefit on purchases of ~$31 or more (excluding tax). Additionally, you can use extra discount coupons: 5% off for purchases of ~$62 or more, and 10% off for purchases of ~$187 or more.
Yubari melon slices are sold in the food section on B2F of the Don Quijote Tanukikoji Main Store. They often sell out late at night, so it's recommended to visit a bit earlier if you wish to purchase them.
