4-Night, 5-Day Itinerary

(Including Biei / Otaru)

Sapporo, this winter's most popular travel destination!

And I just got back from there!

I actually went for a longer 9-night, 10-day trip, including Tomamu Resort via Fukuoka, so I've excluded that part and adapted it to the most common 4-night, 5-day itinerary. Please note that I'll be sharing a recommended itinerary based on that!

I'll also be uploading detailed posts for each day

sequentially.

Sapporo 4-Night, 5-Day Itinerary

4-Night, 5-Day Itinerary Summary

• DAY 1 જ⁀➴ Sapporo Sightseeing (Hokkaido University / Shiroi Koibito Park)

DAY 1 | Sapporo

Airport - Hokkaido University - Lunch - Shiroi Koibito Park - Dinner - Clock Tower - Noria Ferris Wheel

* Alternative to Shiroi Koibito Park = Sapporo Beer Museum (Recommended)

From the airport, I took the JR train to Sapporo

and dropped off my luggage at the accommodation!

I visited the Hokkaido University campus.

It's a wonderful place to walk around, enjoy the snow, and take photos.

After exploring, I went to have soup curry nearby.

Originally, I planned to visit a place called Picante,

but the queue was too long,

so I went to Sam's Curry, which was close by.

After lunch, I did some light sightseeing around Sapporo Station,

then visited Shiroi Koibito Park, a sweet treat theme park!

It's especially popular in winter for its beautiful illuminations.

Afterward, I visited Sakihanamaru, a branch of Hanamaru,

my favorite sushi brand.

Absolutely delicious..🤤

And right next door, I snapped a quick photo at the Clock Tower!~!

After a short rest at the accommodation,

I went for a ride on the Noria Ferris Wheel.

It might not be the best value for money, but it was still quite fun...

After the Ferris wheel, I sought out a place called "Château" that I'd found in advance, to experience the

Shime Parfait culture – something I really wanted to do when coming to Sapporo.

If you visit Sapporo, you absolutely must try a parfait!

DAY 2 | Otaru Day Trip

Get off at Minami-Otaru Station - Former Temiya Railway Line - Sakaimachi Street - Otaru Canal - Travel to Sapporo - Dinner - Nikka Whisky Statue

I actually spent 1 night and 2 days in Otaru myself!

However, since most people visit Otaru as a day trip, I've adjusted this itinerary to reflect a day trip! (I even did a day trip there in the summer!)

If you'd like to dine at Sankaku Market,

I recommend getting off at Otaru Station!

I recommend exploring Sankaku Market, Love Letter Hill, and other spots around Otaru Station,

then heading to Minami-Otaru Station to continue your itinerary!

After getting off at Minami-Otaru Station,

explore the railway crossing nearby, which is a great photo spot,

and then take a stroll along Sakaimachi Street!

You'll find the Otaru Music Box Museum, dessert cafes, Kitaichi Hall Cafe, and more,

offering a variety of sights and delicious treats!

Finally, don't miss exploring the iconic Otaru Canal!!

It's Otaru's number one tourist spot, so be prepared for crowds!

For dinner, we indulged in some delicious yakiniku we had reserved🤤

and then headed to the Nikka-san photo zone to snap some pics!

the Christmas Tree, Nikka-san, and the TV Tower!!

DAY 3 | Sapporo

Hokkaido Shrine & Maruyama Park - Lunch - Nakajima Park - Dinner - TV Tower / Odori Park - Don Quijote

* If you love shopping, I recommend replacing the morning itinerary with some retail therapy (department stores, Uniqlo, etc.)!

In the morning, we checked out the Patagonia outlet near our accommodation,

then headed to Hokkaido Shrine and Maruyama Park.

It's truly beautiful when it snows, so it was a bit of a shame it wasn't snowing during our visit.

We came back to Sapporo city center and had Tendon for lunch.

Since the Tendon restaurant was right in front of our accommodation, we also took a short break.

Next, we went to Nakajima Park

and tried out Nordic skiing.

To think you can have so much fun for free! Highly recommend!

We came to eat the Jingisukan we had reserved!

I usually love lamb, but this restaurant was a bit disappointing..!!

While its ratings were good, personally, Daruma was tastier!

In the evening, we went to see the TV Tower, another great photo spot~

Actually, the TV Tower is right in the heart of Sapporo city,

so you can actually see it every day, haha… (Nikka-san included).

DAY 4 | Biei Bus Tour

Bus Tour (Shirohige Waterfall - Christmas Tree - Takushinkan - Free Time (Lunch) - Ningle Terrace) - Susukino (Nikka-san) - Dinner - Robatayaki

I explored Biei using a bus tour!

I booked it for a little under ~$52 per person – what a steal!

Before diving into lunch,

we visited Shirahige Waterfall, the Christmas Tree, and Takushinkan!

We made it to Shirahige Waterfall, and the active volcano scenery was absolutely breathtaking.

Definitely the highlight of the bus tour!

We also explored the Christmas Tree and Takushinkan!

Challenge yourself to capture that perfect 'life shot' at the Christmas Tree, one of Sapporo's top photo spots!

After soaking in these three incredible spots,

we enjoyed some free time in Biei Village.

Most people flocked to Junpei, a famous restaurant known for its shrimp tempura bowl (Ebi-tendon),

but since someone in our group had a shrimp allergy,

we opted for a free-choice meal!

We also visited Ningle Terrace, a place typically visited in winter,

but as luck would have it, the weather was glorious with sunshine that day,

making the view a bit less magical than its snowy charm.

After catching up on some much-needed sleep on the bus, we wrapped up our tour!

We disembarked in Susukino!

We admired the iconic Nikka Sign (a must-take photo spot!),

and indulged in some delicious Monjayaki, one of my favorites!

DAY 5 | Departure

Airport - Flight

New Chitose Airport is an airport brimming with sights and delicious eats,

so if it's your first time visiting, I highly recommend arriving with plenty of time

to explore everything and savor its culinary delights.

Especially noteworthy is the Ramen Alley,

where 10 famous ramen shops from Hokkaido gather,

allowing you to taste them without enduring long queues in downtown Sapporo.

Accommodation | Tokyu Stay Odori

4 nights / ~$239

Even though it was a great value hotel, the space was surprisingly spacious!!

Its location near Odori Park was perfect for easily getting to Susukino.

Having a washing machine and dryer right in the room was an absolute game-changer! •_•

Flights | Layover via Fukuoka to Sapporo

Total ~$260

To avoid the hefty flight prices to Sapporo during peak season, I cleverly booked a route with a layover in Fukuoka, turning it into a mini-trip to Fukuoka too!

On Trip.com, I booked a round-trip ticket from Busan to Fukuoka and a flight from Fukuoka to Sapporo for a total of ~$260!

If you have some extra time, I highly recommend considering a layover – it can be a great way to save and explore! 👍🏻
