Salzburg Card Basic Information |
The Salzburg Card is
the official tourist pass for the city of Salzburg,
granting you free admission to major attractions
and access to designated public transport routes.

For 2026, prices vary depending on your travel season.
Card Type | Jan - Mar Nov - Dec | Apr - Oct |
24 hours | €35 | €38 |
48 hours | €41 | €45 |
72 hours | €44 | €49 |
The important thing to remember is that it's not based on calendar days,
but on consecutive 24, 48, or 72 hours from its first use.
For example, if you activate a 24-hour pass at 2 PM,
you can use it until 1:59 PM the following day.
So, even if you're on a two-day trip,
if you can group your paid attractions within a 24-hour window,
you might not necessarily need more than a 24-hour pass.

Free Admission Attractions and Transportation |
The Salzburg Card allows for
one-time admission to each major attraction.
Major Attractions | Standard Adult Fare |
Hohensalzburg Fortress Full Tour + Funicular Round Trip | €19.20 |
Mozart's Birthplace | €18 |
DomQuartier | €15 |
Untersberg Cable Car Round Trip | €34 |
Hellbrunn Palace + Trick Fountains | €16.50 |
The Salzburg Card covers not only city buses, but also:
✔️All city trolleybus lines
✔️Albus lines
✔️Suburban Postbus lines
✔️Regional train (S1) between Salzburg Central Station and Acharting
You'll be zipping around with ease!

If you're staying overnight in Salzburg,
don't forget to check if your accommodation provides a Guest Mobility Ticket as well!
From Purchase to Use |
While you can purchase the Salzburg Card
from the official website, keep in mind that
it doesn't support an English page.

If you find booking in English challenging
or want to compare prices in USD,
be sure to check out these booking platforms too.
On the date I checked,
when I applied a discount code on Klook,
it was slightly cheaper than the official website price.
Booking Platform | Klook | Official Website | Trip.com |
Price | ~$41 ~$39 | €35 approximately ~$40 | ~$42 |

I picked up and used my physical card
at Salzburg Central Station.
I personally wrote my name, date of use, and time on the back of the plastic card
before using it at attractions.

Is the 24-hour pass worth it? |
Ultimately, whether the Salzburg Card is beneficial
depends on how many places you actually visit.

The 24-hour adult pass for November-December is €35.
If you individually pay for the Hohensalzburg Fortress complete tour (€19.20)
and Mozart's Birthplace (€18),
the total is €37.20.
If you only visit these two places,
paying individually is €2.2 cheaper than the card.
Major Attractions | Standard Adult Fare | Salzburg City Card |
Hohensalzburg Fortress complete tour + Funicular round trip | €19.20 | - |
Mozart's Birthplace | €18 | - |
24-hour public transport ticket | €4.90 | - |
Total | €42.10 | €35 |
I actually exchanged my card at the Central Station,
then took public transport to Mirabell Gardens → Getreidegasse → Mozart's Birthplace
in that order.

Mini's Planning Pointers |
1. Plan Your Card's Start Time Based on Your Next Day's Itinerary |
If you arrive in Salzburg in the afternoon,
rather than using it immediately, check the remaining operating hours of attractions
and the last usage time for the following day.
Since it's valid for 24 hours from its first use,
if you plan your itinerary smartly, you can even use a 24-hour card
for a 2-day, 1-night trip.
2. Always Check Untersberg's Operating Status |
From November 2nd to December 13th, 2026,
it's scheduled to be closed for maintenance.
Even outside of these dates, operations can change due to weather,
so it's a good idea to check the operating status on the day of your visit.
3. Separate Hallstatt and City Sightseeing Days |
You can't pause the Salzburg Card once activated.
It's more efficient to use it on days when you'll be visiting paid attractions in Salzburg
consecutively, rather than on the day you travel to Hallstatt and back.

Overall Review |
The Salzburg Card is
worth comparing if your itinerary includes several paid attractions
like castles, museums, and cable cars.
Rather than simply choosing 24, 48, or 72 hours based on your length of stay,
first decide which attractions you actually plan to visit,
and determine your first and last usage times.
Then, if you add up the individual admission fees,
you'll be able to decide much more easily
if the Salzburg Card is right for your itinerary.
