On my recent summer 2026 trip to Gongju, I finally got to visit a Kimpitang restaurant I'd been curious about for ages!
This is Pitang Kimtang, located on Hanjeok 2-gil. From its name, you can tell exactly what their signature dish is!
How to Conquer the Waitlist: Catchtable Remote Registration
Good news! Pitang Kimtang offers remote waiting via the Catchtable app!
While you can still register in person, using the Catchtable app to register remotely and then arriving at your designated time is highly recommended.
The restaurant opens at 11:00 AM, but we registered for remote waiting at 10:40 AM, and there were already 40 teams ahead of us! 😬😬
I'd read some blog posts suggesting that if you arrived right at opening ("open run"), you could get in immediately. However, on a Sunday, that definitely wasn't the case! 😭😭
I'm not sure exactly when remote registration opens, but it seems to be available well before the official opening time.
We finally managed to get seated around 11:30 AM!
As long as you plan for a bit of a wait, you won't feel too stressed. Just be aware of one crucial rule:
‼️‼️ If you don't arrive at the restaurant within 3 minutes of receiving your call, your turn will be skipped! ‼️‼️
Once there are about 10 teams left before you, it's best to wait directly in front of the restaurant, so make sure to keep an eye on your status.
Pitang Kimtang Location & Parking
The Pitang Kimtang restaurant was much larger and more spacious than I expected.
Despite its size, the entrance was constantly bustling with both waiting customers and those picking up takeout orders.
The phone for takeout orders rang non-stop, which really showed how popular this place is.
Parking is available on the second floor, but there are only a few spots. We ended up parking in a nearby alley.
Our group had 11 people, and since there were only two large tables (seating 6 each), we were faced with either a very long wait or splitting our group.
Luckily, we got fortunate and were able to combine a large table with a 4-person table, allowing us to sit together.
Pitang Kimtang Menu Highlights
Pitang Kimtang offers a surprisingly diverse menu.
For our group of four adults that day, we ordered a medium Kimpitang, two servings of rice balls, and cheese balls.
• Kimpitang (Medium): ~$20
• Rice Balls: ~$3
• Cheese Balls: ~$4
A fantastic perk for dine-in customers is unlimited soda and readily available self-service takeout containers. That was a really thoughtful touch!
However, if you're getting takeout, you only get one complimentary Coke, so keep that in mind.
The Verdict: How Does Kimpitang Taste?
Kimpitang comes with cheese in the middle, so make sure to mix it well as soon as it arrives to ensure the cheese melts perfectly!
The seasoning wasn't as strong as I expected, which made it easy to keep eating without feeling overwhelmed. It tasted even better when paired with kimchi!
If you start to feel a little full, a quick sip of soda helps cleanse your palate, and you'll find yourself ready for more. Haha!
We ordered a medium size for four people, and the portion was incredibly generous. We ended up with leftovers!
If you're visiting as a couple, the "couple size" would likely be more than enough.
By utilizing the remote registration feature, you can enjoy a delicious and hassle-free dining experience at Pitang Kimtang.
I highly recommend it, especially if you're trying Kimpitang for the first time or curious about the original home of this unique dish!
It's also a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a truly satisfying meal during their Gongju trip.
If I visit Gongju again, I'd love to try their Sweet Potato Pitang next time!

When we registered remotely for a waiting spot at 10:40 AM, there were already 40 teams ahead of us. We were able to enter around 11:30 AM, past the store's opening time of 11:00 AM. On Sundays, it was difficult to enter immediately with an 'open run'.
If you do not arrive in front of the store within 3 minutes of being called, your turn will be skipped. Also, when there are about 10 teams left in the queue, you must wait directly in front of the store.
Four adults ordered a medium Kim-Pi-Tang (~$20), two rice balls (~$3), and cheese balls (~$4). The medium Kim-Pi-Tang was a lot, and we ended up leaving some. For two people, the couple size would probably be sufficient.
For dine-in customers, unlimited carbonated drinks are available, and self-service packing containers are provided for leftovers. Takeout customers, however, only receive one type of soda (Coke).
