Craving authentic chicken pho in Hanoi? Phở Gà Huyền Hương near Hoan Kiem Lake is a local treasure. I revisited this spot for its incredible texture and flavorful broth. Don't miss it!
Phở Gà Huyền Hương
I first stumbled upon this incredible spot during a Hanoi trip a couple of years ago. Back then, I opted for the 'Normal' chicken pho, and I regretted not trying the 'Special.' So, on my most recent visit in 2026, I made sure to return and experience the full glory of their signature dish.
Typically, if I have a choice, I'll go for beef pho over chicken. But Phở Gà Huyền Hương is a chicken pho specialist, and for good reason! The chicken, likely dark meat, is incredibly tender and juicy, never dry, with a delightful chewiness that truly stuck with me. That unforgettable texture is precisely what drew me back.
Phở Gà Huyền Hương

The restaurant's name, Phở Gà, literally means 'chicken pho,' so you know they're serious about their specialty. It features an open-kitchen concept, with the cooking station right at the entrance. While there are a few tables on the ground floor, most diners head upstairs to the second level for a more spacious experience.

This Hanoi Hoan Kiem gem is located right by the lake and is a huge hit with the local crowd. In all my visits, I've rarely seen many foreign tourists here, which makes it feel like an authentic hidden find.
Phở Gà Huyền Hương: The Menu

On this trip, I was determined to try option #2, the Special Chicken Pho. I'd loved option #1 last time, so my curiosity was definitely piqued!

Normal Chicken Pho: ~$3 - ~$4
Special Chicken Pho: ~$6

The photo on the left displays the Special menu item I ordered this time, while the one on the right is the Normal version from my previous visit in 2025. It's similar to how beef pho often offers different cuts of meat, with the 'special' typically including a variety of parts. Since the succulent chicken meat is in both, the normal version is still fantastic. Honestly, it's the chicken itself, not just the additional cuts, that makes it so good. This pho has a distinct flavor profile that sets it apart from what you might find in Ho Chi Minh City.
Hanoi's Open-Kitchen Pho Gem

As I was leaving after paying, I snapped another shot of the open kitchen by the entrance. It's where they whip up all the dine-in, takeout, and delivery orders.
This is truly a local Hanoi hotspot, primarily frequented by residents. Interestingly, right next door is the renowned Orient Spa, a fact I completely missed on my previous visit!
While browsing Klook for other activities this time, I discovered that La Belle Vie, Le Sens, and Orient are considered three of the most famous spas in the area. Turns out, Orient Spa was right next door to the pho spot all along!
The link above points to the Orient Spa, located right beside the restaurant.

Google Maps reviews even suggested getting a spa treatment right after your pho. If I'd known, I would have booked Orient Spa. This time around, I went to La Belle Vie, but I'll definitely check out Orient next time I'm in Hanoi!
Phở Gà Huyền Hương specializes in chicken pho. It's known for its tender and chewy texture, achieved by using chicken thigh meat instead of dry breast meat.
Normal Chicken Pho ranges from 80,000 to 100,000 VND. Special Chicken Pho is 150,000 VND.
Yes, Orient Spa is located right next to Phở Gà Huyền Hương. Google Maps reviews also recommend having pho and then getting a spa treatment there.
