Phetchaburi Rafting 2026: Hua Hin's Hidden Day Trip Gem
Escape the crowds with a serene rubber boat rafting adventure in Phetchaburi, just an hour from Hua Hin. Glide through nature and enjoy a unique 'mini Amazon' experience for around ~$21 per boat.
If I had to pick one truly unforgettable moment from our Phetchaburi trip, it would undoubtedly be the rubber boat rafting experience.
The river that flows through Phetchaburi originates from the Kaeng Krachan Dam upstream, winding its way right through the heart of the city.
With resorts and accommodations lining both banks, taking a leisurely rubber boat ride down this scenic waterway is an absolute must-do when you're in Phetchaburi.
Our own lodging, Villa de Leaf, even offered boat trip bookings directly at the front desk.
However, their package was ~1,000 THB (~$30), and since we had our own car, we decided to find a more budget-friendly option ourselves. We booked directly via the Line app and headed over.
The total cost was ~700 THB, which is approximately ~$21.
Crucially, this isn't a per-person price, but rather the cost for the *entire boat*.
Our group consisted of three adults, and even looking back now, the value and satisfaction were incredibly high.

Waiting for the Dam Gates to Open

The next morning, around 10:00 AM, we made our way to the 'Song Phi Nong' pier, as instructed by our booking agent.
This spot was about a 20-minute drive from our Phetchaburi accommodation.
What's great is that it's also only about an hour's drive from the popular resort town of Hua Hin, making it a fantastic option for a day trip activity if you're staying there.
Upon arrival, we noticed the river level was surprisingly low. We learned that the water level only rises once the gates of the Kaeng Krachan Dam upstream are opened.
After waiting for about 30 minutes, the water slowly began to rise, and we were able to board our boat around 10:30 AM.
Our party of three, plus one staff member who would be paddling from the back, totaled four people in our rubber boat.
Discovering a Mini Amazon in Phetchaburi
As soon as our boat set off, the first thing that struck us was the profound quiet.
Unlike noisy motorboats, our guide propelled us forward with paddles, allowing only the gentle sounds of flowing water and birdsong to fill the air.
It was still early, and with hardly any other travelers around, we enjoyed a truly private experience.
Dense trees lined both sides of the river, naturally bringing to mind images of the Amazon rainforest.
The continuous chirping of birds we'd never heard before, combined with the rustling of leaves in the breeze, completely transformed our impression of Phetchaburi.
Honestly, at first, I thought, "How exciting can a rubber boat ride on a river really be?" But once we were on it, I realized it offered a unique kind of relaxation, far removed from the hustle and bustle of popular tourist spots.
Drifting slowly down the river for 40-50 minutes, time seemed to fly by incredibly fast.

Cool River Water and Playful Splashes
Along the way, we encountered sections where the river playfully bubbled as it flowed over rocks.
I took off my shoes and kept my feet bare in the boat, enjoying the cool water temperature and the delightful sensation of the bubbly current against my soles.
The river water, continuously flowing with silt from the opened dam gates, wasn't crystal clear, but it was certainly free of any unpleasant smells or dirty sensations.
If you come prepared with swimwear, you can even jump out and play in the water in sections where the staff indicates it's safe.
Since you wear a life vest, even those who aren't strong swimmers can enjoy a dip without worry.
Note that the rafting ends downstream, not at the starting point, but there's no need to fret.
A pickup vehicle from the company will be waiting at the disembarkation point to take you back to the original pier.
Tips for Your Boat Ride Adventure
While life vests are provided before boarding, we highly recommend bringing the following personal items:
Water-friendly sandals or flip-flops
Sunglasses and a hat (essential!)
Waterproof phone case
Swimsuit if you plan to swim (recommended to wear beforehand)
Although there's plenty of shade from trees along the river, there are also sections where the sun shines intensely, making it surprisingly bright. So, definitely bring sunglasses!
