Okinawa Snorkeling Review 2026: Kerama Islands Sea Turtle Point

My 4-day, 3-night trip to Okinawa in May 2026 was all about exploring with public transport and one-day tours, without a rental car.

One day, I decided to fully immerse myself in the ocean, so I booked an Okinawa snorkeling tour heading out to the Kerama Islands.

Today, I'm excited to share my detailed review of that tour, including its structure and my actual experience.

1. Why I Chose This Tour

What initially drew me to this tour was its promise to take us by boat from Naha Fishing Port to an area near an uninhabited island, a spot inaccessible by regular ferry.

The tour was also advertised as a spot with a high chance of encountering sea turtles, which definitely piqued my interest.

Plus, the convenience of pick-up and drop-off services from hotels in the Naha city area meant less hassle for me, making the decision to book even easier.

All Okinawa snorkeling gear, including masks and fins, was provided, so all I needed to bring were my swimsuit and a towel.

2. Tour Structure and Duration

The meeting point was Naha Fishing Port, with a scheduled gathering time of 9:20 AM.

Since I didn't have a rental car, checking for tours with hotel pick-up was my top priority. This tour offered both pick-up and drop-off, which was a huge time-saver. I simply packed my bag the night before, put on my swimsuit, and was ready to go!

Of course, if you prefer to arrange your own transportation, you can simply meet at the port at the designated time.

After departing, it was about a 25-30 minute cruise to reach the snorkeling spot around 10:30 AM. We received a safety briefing, and then the program officially kicked off at 11:00 AM.

We had the freedom to enjoy scuba diving, unlimited snorkeling, and optional marine activities. Afterward, we refueled with a delicious Taco Rice lunch, and if we wished, we could even venture onto an uninhabited island.

The schedule brought us back to the port around 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, making the total tour duration approximately 6 hours.

3. My Snorkeling Experience

As the tour name suggests, it's a '1-Day Free Tour,' which meant I could freely choose between diving and snorkeling, or even switch back and forth, which I absolutely loved.

I primarily focused on snorkeling rather than scuba diving. While the diving team took turns entering the water, those of us not diving had ample free time to get in and out of the water as much as we pleased.

Even just submerging my face with a mask on, the water was incredibly clear, allowing me to see the coral and tropical fish right beneath my feet.

I could even feel the subtle temperature shifts as I swam through areas where warm and cold currents met – a transparency and temperature variation I hadn't experienced in the waters closer to Naha city.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see a sea turtle firsthand that day. While it's known as a high-probability spot for sightings, actual encounters seem to depend on luck!

4. Lunch and Uninhabited Island Landing

After working up an appetite from all the swimming, we were served Taco Rice for lunch right on the boat.

True to its reputation as Okinawan soul food, the savory minced meat, fresh vegetables, and rice combined perfectly to fill my hungry stomach after a morning of water activities.

During our snorkeling time, we also had the option to take a banana boat ride to an uninhabited island, so I seized the chance to set foot on its pristine sandy beach, even if just for a short while.

As we cruised back to the port around 3:00 PM, I couldn't believe how quickly the day had flown by, even after spending the entire time in the water.

If you're exploring Okinawa without a rental car, filling one of your days with an all-inclusive tour like this, complete with pick-up, is an excellent strategy, just like I did.

Many incredible spots, especially those near uninhabited islands, are often only accessible through organized tours.

There's no need to worry about transportation, and everything you need for snorkeling is taken care of, making the experience incredibly convenient.

Remember that spending a lot of time in the water can be surprisingly tiring, so don't forget to stay hydrated by drinking water or other beverages provided on the boat.

Also, since you'll be cruising to the snorkeling spot, I highly recommend bringing and taking motion sickness medication if you're prone to it.
