Hotel Palm Royal Resort Okinawa Review (2026): Perfect for Families?

Okinawa is a fantastic escape from winter's chill, with average temperatures remaining a mild 63-66°F even in the depths of winter.

While it's not tropical like Southeast Asia, its short flight time and pleasant climate make it an incredibly appealing destination to temporarily escape the cold.

Today, let's dive into our experience at Hotel Palm Royal Resort, the accommodation we chose for our first night in Okinawa :)

Just 15 Minutes from Naha Airport!

Why it was the perfect first-night stay

We booked this hotel for our first night, and it took about 20 minutes to get there from Naha Airport by Yui Rail.

🚈 Travel Route

Naha Airport → Makishi Station → 5-minute walk

Exiting Makishi Station's west exit and walking straight down the main road, the distance was entirely manageable, even with a child's hand in ours and dragging luggage.

We arrived a bit earlier than check-in, but the reception kindly held our bags for us. This allowed us to explore Kokusai Dori and Makishi Market unburdened. It was incredibly convenient for sightseeing :)

Lawson Convenience Store Across the Street

If you've traveled with kids, or even just with your partner, you know how crucial location is for quick breaks back at the hotel during your trip.

Hotel Palm Royal Resort is just one block off Kokusai Dori's main stretch. Step out the door, walk a few paces, and you're immersed in the bustling, delicious world of Kokusai Dori.

Plus, there's a large Lawson convenience store directly across from the hotel. Grabbing some snacks and drinks on your way back for a late-night hotel feast is a quintessential Japan experience you won't want to miss!

Spacious Enough for a Family of Three

There's a common perception that Japanese hotel rooms are small. To avoid feeling cramped, we opted for the Grand Twin Room instead of the smallest standard room, and we were pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable it felt.

The Grand Twin Room features two single beds and a sofa bed, accommodating up to three adults. With windows on two sides, the room felt bright and open, and the small table was incredibly handy for enjoying late-night snacks.

The bathtub was generously sized with a compact, traditional Japanese seating area, adding to the authentic experience. A variety of basic amenities were provided, and at check-in, we received a separate set of children's toothbrushes, toothpaste, and slippers, which were very useful.

I originally booked through Agoda, and it appears Agoda is still about ~$7-15 cheaper.

Personally, even if you have young children, I recommend choosing a Deluxe or Grand room with a bit more space over the smallest Comfort room if you're traveling with three or more people. It makes a big difference for organizing luggage and simply relaxing.

Public Bath and Pool Facilities

Despite being right in the heart of Kokusai Dori, Hotel Palm Royal Resort boasts excellent facilities, including a large public bath and an outdoor swimming pool.

After a day of flying and exploring Kokusai Dori, you can get pretty tired from all the walking. A long, warm soak in the public bath in the evening is just what you need to recharge for the next day's adventures!

The outdoor swimming pool is beautifully designed with a distinct resort feel, making it a lovely spot to soak in the vibrant Okinawa atmosphere. Having these amenities in the city center is truly a significant advantage :)

Hotel Palm Royal Resort offered a fantastic stay because it's close to the airport and right in the heart of Kokusai Dori, making it easy to plan our itinerary for the first or last day of our Okinawa trip. Plus, the ability to unwind in the warm public bath after a long day was a huge bonus.
