Okinawa Don Quijote Shopping Recommendations

The branch I visited was the Don Quijote Kokusai Dori (International Street) store, located right on Naha's bustling International Street shopping arcade.
📍 Don Quijote Kokusai Dori Store
2-chōme-8-19 Matsuo, Naha, Okinawa 900-0014 Japan

This store is quite large, so you'll find a massive selection of snacks, various food items, cosmetics, souvenirs, and pretty much anything else you could be looking for!
Since I focused primarily on snacks, I'll be sharing my personal top 7 snack recommendations from Okinawa's Don Quijote.
Okinawa Don Quijote Recommended Items

① Yukishio Chinsuko 🧂🍪
(~$7)
Chinsuko is one of the first snacks that comes to mind when you think of Okinawa souvenirs. It's a traditional Okinawan sweet, and the Yukishio Chinsuko uses "Yukishio" salt from Miyakojima island.
When you first taste it, it's surprisingly mild, but then a subtle salty note emerges, creating a delightful sweet-and-savory combination!
Instead of a crispy cookie texture, it melts smoothly in your mouth, making it perfect to enjoy with a cup of coffee.
Many varieties come individually wrapped, which is super convenient for sharing with friends and family!

② Yukishio Langue de Chat 🤍
(~$11)
While Chinsuko offers a more rustic, traditional Okinawan snack vibe, the Yukishio Langue de Chat feels a bit more refined and makes for an excellent gift.
These thin, crispy cookies have a layer of white chocolate sandwiched in between, enhanced by the subtle saltiness of Yukishio.
You might think white chocolate would be overly sweet, but the salt balances it beautifully, making it surprisingly addictive. You'll find yourself reaching for another one!
The packaging is also very neat, making it a great choice for gifting to family or friends.

③ Bourbon Alfort Purple Sweet Potato 🍠
(~$5)
Many of you probably stock up on Alfort chocolates when you visit Japan, right?
Here in Okinawa, you can find a special limited-edition purple sweet potato (beni imo) flavor! I instantly tossed it into my cart!
This chocolate biscuit combines Alfort's signature chocolate and crunchy biscuit with the rich flavor of beni imo, Okinawa's iconic purple sweet potato.
You might expect it to be too intense or cloying, but it's pleasantly sweet with a subtle, earthy sweet potato aroma that's surprisingly easy to enjoy.

④ Meiji Macadamia Brown Sugar 🍫
(~$2)
If you're a chocolate lover, keep an eye out for this one!
This is the classic Meiji Macadamia chocolate, but with the addition of rich, sweet brown sugar flavor. It's a regional exclusive!
It retains the signature nutty, crunchy texture of macadamia nuts, but the deep sweetness of brown sugar adds a whole new dimension, different from the usual macadamia chocolate.
I always find myself gravitating towards these regional limited editions. It's fun to try something unique! 😂
It makes a great gift for chocolate enthusiasts or a perfect treat to enjoy with a cup of coffee at home after your trip!

⑤ Papapapa Pine Tart 🍍
(~$11)
You can't talk about Okinawa without mentioning pineapples! 🍍
That's why many Okinawan snacks feature pineapple, and one of the most popular is the Papapapa Pine Tart.
After visiting Pineapple Park, the "Papapapa~ Pineapple~" song just kept playing in my head when I saw the packaging!
These tarts are filled with sweet and tangy pineapple jam, giving you that delightful tropical flavor with every bite.

⑥ Chili Shrimp Rice Cracker 🌶️🦐
(~$4)
Time for a savory treat after all those sweets!
This is a rice cracker snack with a delightful blend of chili and shrimp flavors. It's spicy and savory, with that distinct umami taste of shrimp.
These crackers are absolutely perfect for munching on with a cold beer after a long day of exploring!
When you're buying various souvenir snacks, it's easy to end up with a cart full of only chocolates and cookies. It's essential to throw in a savory option like this one to balance things out! Haha!
Especially recommended if you love a bit of spice!

⑦ Okinawa Chili Potato Sticks 🌶️🥔
(~$4)
Last but not least, if you're a fan of spicy and savory, you absolutely have to check these out!
These potato sticks are infused with the unique flavor of "Shima Togarashi" (Okinawan chili pepper) and a hint of mayonnaise.
The crispy potato sticks combined with the spicy and savory kick are incredibly addictive!
These are also fantastic with a cold beer! Cheers!🥂
They're especially well-suited for those who prefer savory potato chips and snacks over sweet souvenir cookies.
If I had to pick my personal top two from these Okinawa Don Quijote recommendations, it would be a sweet and a savory: #2 Yukishio Langue de Chat & #7 Okinawa Chili Potato Sticks!

While enjoying delicious food during your trip is wonderful, I find that buying souvenir snacks to enjoy back home is also a fun part of the travel experience.
If you have many people to buy gifts for, I recommend choosing individually wrapped items. For yourself, pick up some limited-edition flavors or snacks you haven't seen in other parts of Japan!
