Okinawa Bus Tour Review 2026: Churaumi & More

During my 4-day, 3-night trip to Okinawa in May 2026, I decided to tackle Okinawa without a rental car. Instead, I relied entirely on public transportation and a well-curated day tour.

Once you leave downtown Naha, public transit schedules become sparse, which can be highly stressful for car-free travelers.

2. Tour Route and Schedule

If you are starting from Naha, you can board at the Ryubo Department Store (7:45 AM - 7:55 AM). Alternatively, you can join the tour directly at the American Village (8:30 AM - 8:40 AM), depending on where your accommodation is.

The route flows beautifully: Cape Manzamo (approx. 30 mins) → Kouri Bridge (approx. 30 mins) → Churaumi Aquarium (approx. 3 hours) → American Village (approx. 1.5 hours), before heading back for a final drop-off at Kokusai Dori in Naha.

 

It is an 11-hour day tour that starts early in the morning and finishes in the evening. Because every single hour is packed with incredible sights, the day flew by and felt incredibly rewarding.

3. Churaumi Aquarium and Kouri Bridge

Cape Manzamo is a quick, scenic photo stop. If you want to walk the coastal path and capture the iconic elephant-shaped cliff overlooking the East China Sea, there is a small, separate entry fee of about 100 JPY (~$1).

Next, we crossed the Kouri Bridge. Riding on the bus gave us an elevated, panoramic view of the emerald green ocean stretching out on both sides of the bridge.

The absolute highlight of this tour was the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium. Since the tickets were fully included, our guide went ahead and purchased them for us, allowing us to bypass the ticket lines and walk straight inside. It was incredibly convenient!

With 3 full hours allocated here, we had plenty of time to admire the massive Kuroshio Sea tank, see the whale sharks, and explore the smaller, fascinating deep-sea exhibits at a relaxed pace.

If you tried to coordinate Cape Manzamo, Kouri Bridge, and Churaumi Aquarium in one day on your own, you'd spend hours stressing over bus schedules. Having a dedicated tour bus handle all the transit made the entire day feel like a breeze.

4. Wrapping Up at the American Village

Our final stop of the day was the famous Okinawa American Village.

This vibrant, American-style shopping and entertainment district offers a completely different vibe compared to the natural, scenic landscapes we enjoyed earlier in the day. The bright, colorful buildings, boardwalks, and palm trees make you feel like you've been transported straight to the California coast.

Note: While the giant Ferris wheel was once the iconic landmark of the American Village, it has been fully dismantled due to aging and safety concerns, so keep that in mind when looking for photo spots!

We had about 1.5 hours of free time here, which was perfect for grabbing a coffee, strolling along the seaside, and picking up some unique souvenirs. After a long day of exploring, this relaxed free time was exactly what we needed.

If you are trying to figure out how to visit the American Village without renting a car, using this day tour as your transport is a genius way to save time and money.

You can choose to get off at either the American Village or Kokusai Dori in Naha.

Being able to end your tour at Kokusai Dori makes it super easy to transition straight into dinner. Alternatively, if you are moving your accommodation to a resort in Chatan, you can use the tour bus to transport yourself and your luggage to the American Village! It's a fantastic travel hack.
