1. What is Innsbruck Nordkette?
The Nordkette Cable Car in Innsbruck, Austria,
allows you to reach the Top of Innsbruck, about 2,300m above sea level,
by taking three cable cars and a funicular railway from Innsbruck's Old Town.
You can experience both the city of Innsbruck and the magnificent Alps simultaneously.
The cable car takes you to a height even greater than Hallasan Mountain in just about 25 minutes!
Once at the summit, you'll be greeted by the stunning views of the snow-capped Alpine peaks.
While riding the Nordkette Cable Car to the summit was incredible,
the views from the intermediate stations and the restaurant's ambiance were equally delightful.
Everything was fantastic, so personally, I recommend setting aside about half a day
for your visit!
In summer, it's perfect for trekking and paragliding,
while in winter, it attracts many European travelers for skiing and snowboarding.
And definitely check the weather before you go!
On a clear day, you'll be able to enjoy pristine Alpine scenery from the summit!

First, there are two ways to purchase Nordkette Cable Car tickets:

you'll see several ticket options. The one marked "Innsbruck Summit Bestseller"
is the exact ticket we booked.
If you're traveling with children or have more time,
we recommend purchasing the "Innsbruck Plus Summit" ticket,
which allows you to visit the Alpine Zoo midway.

The standard ticket prices for Innsbruck increase every year, so please refer to these prices (as of September 2026) when making your reservation. Here's a hot tip for discounts: tickets used before 9:30 AM or after 3:00 PM can be booked at a 20% discounted price.
However, I don't recommend this option. If you go too early in the morning, the weather is often cloudy, and after 3:00 PM, it can be quite a tight schedule. So, I think it's best to take the cable car between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
After checking your desired date and time, and paying for the correct number of people, you'll receive a QR code like the one below.
You can use this QR code by scanning it at each section of the journey.
And for those traveling by rental car, like us, you can reserve a parking ticket along with your cable car ticket! If you park at the citygarage near Congress Station (the first boarding point), you can use it for 4 euros from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the day of parking. Keep this in mind!
But there's another real discount gem! It's all about using the Innsbruck Card.
Typically, when you visit Innsbruck, Austria, you'll stay for at least one night. While Innsbruck isn't a huge city, it's packed with fantastic places to explore.

But if you use the Innsbruck Card, the Nordkette round-trip ticket is included as standard, along with access to attractions like the Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace, Alpenzoo, Swarovski Crystal Worlds, and even public transport! It's a pass that lets you use everything, so you'll save a lot more!
As you can see, a round-trip ticket is 56 euros, but the Innsbruck Card is 69 euros!
If you're only planning to visit Nordkette, you can book through the official website above. But for those who want to visit Nordkette AND explore one or two other attractions in the Old Town, the Innsbruck City Card is a more economical choice.

3. Couple Travel YouTubers Bu-Run-Ger-M's Nordkette Cable Car Review
To be honest, we also went up the Nordkette cable car in Innsbruck, Austria, thinking it would just be 'another cable car' and without much expectation.
But wow... I regretted not coming sooner! The scenery from the intermediate stops was absolutely breathtaking, and there are cafes and restaurants along the way where you can enjoy a meal with stunning Alpine views.
On the day we visited, there was even a DJing club!
Imagine a DJ party happening right here in the Alps! Travelers from various European countries
came together, and we got to dance and enjoy with them all!
It was incredibly exciting and definitely a memorable spot.
Heads up: the cable car moves much faster than you might expect!
So if you're prone to altitude sickness or if cable car
motion sickness is an issue for you, we highly recommend taking medicine
beforehand.
What was interesting is that there were almost no Asian tourists on the cable car.
It felt like it was mostly European travelers.
I chatted with many of them, and they were from all over – Germany,
the Czech Republic, and more! It really seemed like a hotspot for European locals.
The Top of Innsbruck!
Once you take the final cable car and
arrive, you'll need to trek up to the very summit on your own two feet.
If you visit in winter,
it can be a bit treacherous!
So, you'll need to be incredibly careful when climbing.
Make sure you pack non-slip shoes!
Perched atop a dizzying summit that feels like one wrong step could send you plummeting,
you'll be greeted by a sense of awe that words can't capture.
Gazing at the majestic Alps, I truly felt
that coming here was absolutely worth it.
