Bohol, Philippines Travel Guide
Napaling Reef Snorkeling, Bohol
Hey there, fellow adventurers!
Today, I'm thrilled to share my experience at Napaling Reef, one of Bohol's premier snorkeling spots, famous for its incredible sardine runs!
If you're planning a trip to Bohol in 2026, Napaling is practically a must-do. I'll give you the lowdown on everything from hailing a tricycle and current rates to entrance fees and whether a guide is worth it.
Getting to Napaling from Alona Beach: How to & What it Costs
From accommodations near Alona Beach, a tricycle is typically your best bet to reach Napaling. As of mid-2026, you can expect to pay around 250 Philippine Pesos (PHP) for a one-way trip.
Keep in mind that prices can sometimes be a bit fluid with local drivers, so a little friendly haggling might be in order!
Expect prices to potentially be a bit higher for the return trip. A savvy tip: walk a little further away from the main entrance before flagging down a tricycle; you might snag a slightly better deal.
Napaling Reef: Entrance Fees & On-Site Payment Details
Once you arrive at Napaling, you'll pay directly at the entrance.
Environmental Fee: 100 PHP
Entrance Fee: 100 PHP
Optional Guide: 200 PHP
If you decide you'd like a guide on the spot, it's an additional 200 PHP. I highly recommend it if you're keen on capturing some incredible underwater photos! The guides here are super enthusiastic and skilled at getting those 'insta-worthy' shots. 👍
I personally opted for a guide, and it was a fantastic decision!
Luggage Storage & Valuables Warning
There aren't any dedicated lockers here. You'll simply place your belongings on one of the available tables before heading into the water.
Since security isn't super strict, your best bet is to leave passports, large amounts of cash, and other valuables securely at your accommodation.
If you're concerned about your belongings or safety, booking a guided tour might offer more peace of mind than a self-visit.
👉Heads up: The entry into the water can be quite rocky and sharp, so if you plan on staying close to shore, definitely bring aqua shoes or water socks to protect your feet!
My Napaling Snorkeling Experience & Recommendations
Funny enough, despite Napaling's fame, I've visited a couple of times and still haven't managed to catch the elusive sardine run myself!
However, my main goal for coming to Napaling was actually for stunning underwater photos like this one:
My guide even created a cool 'donut' bubble for me to swim through – it took us two tries, but we nailed the shot! 👍👍

Currently, a one-way tricycle fare in Bohol is usually around 250 pesos. However, you might need to haggle a bit with local drivers, and they may quote a higher price for the return trip.
At Napaling, you pay an environmental fee of 100 pesos and an entrance fee of 100 pesos directly on-site to enter. A guide is optional; if you choose to use one, an additional 200 pesos will be charged.
Napaling does not have separate lockers for luggage, so it's best not to bring passports, large amounts of cash, or valuables at all. Also, the rocks can be sharp when you first enter the water, so those who don't venture far should definitely bring aqua shoes.
