Heading to Sapporo? A Biei bus tour is absolutely essential! 👀⭐
The Biei region boasts unique scenery each season, making it a stunning destination any time of year,
I personally went in the summer, and while there were plenty of bus tour companies to choose from,
after weighing my options, I decided on MyJapan.
I'm excited to share my review of this bus tour, which I booked and paid for entirely myself :)
1. MyJapan Bus Tour
I explored several Sapporo bus tours, and most of them covered similar attractions with comparable durations at each stop.
However, where and how we had lunch was a bit different.
Many other tours typically offered free time for lunch near Biei Station, which meant there was a chance of long queues if it got busy.
But MyJapan actually had a dedicated lunch stop at a restaurant near Shirahige Waterfall?!
The idea of no waiting worries combined with beautiful scenery really appealed to me, so I instantly picked MyJapan.

2. Itinerary Review
On the big day, we met at the designated spot and hopped on the bus!
I've been on my fair share of bus tours, but this was my first time experiencing a bus with such incredibly spacious seating! Haha!
🚏 Iwamizawa Rest Stop (10 minutes)
Since the journey from Sapporo city center to Farm Tomita is quite long,
it made sense that we'd stop at a rest area halfway.
With only about 10 minutes for the stop,
it was just enough time for a quick restroom break and a peek into the souvenir shop.
🪻 Farm Tomita (70 minutes)
Farm Tomita is unbelievably huge, covering an area about five times the size of Tokyo Dome,
and it's all breathtaking flower fields!
The vibrant purple lavender fields are stunning,
complemented by an abundance of colorful red, yellow, and orange blossoms.
Our wonderful guide took photos for each group here,
making it absolutely perfect for capturing family memories,
romantic couple shots, or fun friendship photos.
And it's not just at this specific spot – if you spot your guide passing by anywhere,
feel free to ask them to snap a picture for you! Haha!
But lavender is only at its peak until early August,
so it's hard to see it now.
Currently, the fields are filled with other flowers,
and those colorful landscapes are absolutely beautiful too!

Besides the flowers, it was also fun to check out the various merchandise,
and with gachapon machines, it was a great place to browse around.
The lavender ice cream you absolutely must try!
Our guide said it's a love-it-or-hate-it kind of flavor, so
I was a bit scared and chose half lavender, half vanilla.
I might just be in the "hate it" camp for lavender...?
If you go to Farm Tomita, it's definitely worth trying at least once.
🍴 Lunch at Park Hills Hotel
Since lunch is right after the first activity,
it's perfectly fine to come without eating breakfast.
Because it's reserved,
you can eat right away without any waiting.
And the lush green scenery outside the window was also incredibly beautiful!
Orders for the menu are taken in advance on the way to the hotel, so
the food comes out right away as soon as you arrive.

Since I was in Sapporo, I had the soup curry,
and the vegetables were perfectly crisp and delicious.
🐋 Shirahige Waterfall & Nearby Sightseeing
Shirahige Waterfall is located just
a 5-minute walk from Park Hills Hotel.
With 70 minutes allotted, including lunch,
you can have your meal and then explore freely.
We were sent a video on how to get to the waterfall, so
it was super easy to find! 👍
Both the color of the water and the flow of the waterfall
were absolutely artistic and stunning.
It's a shame that the photos don't quite capture its grandeur,
and they say in winter the waterfall freezes solid,
creating a different kind of beauty.
I'd love to try a Biei tour in winter too!
There are snack trucks around, and even a famous vending machine photo zone,
so it's a great place to take your time and look around.
Since we were eating and sightseeing, I thought
70 minutes wouldn't be enough, but the Whitebeard Waterfall area isn't that big,
so we had more than enough time – it was overflowing!
I even sat in the hotel lobby and rested
for about 10 minutes, haha.
🩵 Aoiike (Blue Pond)
Can you see how radiant the water's color is? 🤍
You can walk around and admire it,
and it's beautiful from every angle,
so I just kept taking pictures.
They say that the Blue Pond's color comes from microscopic particles formed when water containing aluminum components mixes with the Biei River,
scattering sunlight to create that distinct blue hue.
That's why you can reportedly see slightly different shades of blue
depending on the weather and time of day, but I think it's beautiful no matter when you see it 👀
🌼 Shikisai-no-Oka (Panoramic Flower Gardens)
This is a place where colorful flowers
stretch in layers along the hills,
and you can stroll through the flower fields and enjoy the view!
It was beautiful in a different way from Farm Tomita,
and it was great for a more relaxed exploration.
The scenery is so stunning that
people even come here to take wedding photos.
Since Shikisai-no-Oka is only open from July to September,
if you're traveling to Sapporo in summer or early autumn,
you absolutely have to join the Biei bus tour.
And on the way back to Sapporo city center,
we saw three trees through the bus window: the Ken & Mary Tree, the Oyako Tree, and the Seven Star Tree.
The previous attractions were so spectacular that
these didn't quite capture my attention...
Finally, they gave us tons of information about Sapporo local restaurants,
cafes, unique Sapporo foods,
how to get to the airport, must-visit spots at the airport, and more.
If I had taken this bus tour on the first day,
I would have explored so much more efficiently during my trip,
so it was a shame I did it on the very last day ㅠㅠ
So that's my Sapporo Biei bus tour experience, and I've written this genuine, self-funded review.
The time spent at each attraction was generous,
and we could enjoy our meals comfortably without any waiting,
making the entire bus tour truly satisfying.
Plus, we gained so much valuable travel information,
making the MyJapan Biei Bus Tour an even more enriching experience that I highly recommend!

MyJapan tours provide lunch at the Park Hills Hotel restaurant near Shirahige Waterfall. Unlike other tours where guests eat freely near Biei Station, which can lead to waiting times, MyJapan offers a reserved meal, so you don't have to worry about waiting.
At Farm Tomita, lavender is at its peak until early August, when you can see the purple lavender fields. Currently, the fields are filled with other colorful flowers instead of lavender.
A total of 70 minutes is allocated for lunch at Park Hills Hotel and sightseeing around Shirahige Waterfall. Shirahige Waterfall is a 5-minute walk from the hotel, and this time is sufficient for sightseeing.
