You might notice CLB Bakery nearby. Here's a fun fact: the owner who originally leased Koromabang and perfected its signature baguette recipe eventually opened CLB Bakery after their contract ended. So, you have Koromabang Bakery, steeped in history and tradition, right next to CLB Bakery, which carries the original baguette recipe. It's a fascinating local rivalry, much like the famous Pungnyeon Bakery and PNB in Jeonju, adding an interesting layer to Mokpo's culinary scene.
The charming retro sign, evoking a wonderful sense of nostalgia, immediately drew me in.
Whether recently renovated or just incredibly well-maintained, the interior of the bakery is remarkably spacious and inviting.
The sheer variety of breads is astounding, filling the display cases in a way that's truly a feast for the eyes.
You'll find everything from trendy, modern pastries to nostalgic, old-school favorites, so there's truly something for every palate.
Though I didn't purchase it, the Hallabong Pound Cake looked incredibly refreshing, and the croissants, with only a few left, clearly indicated their popularity. The bread lineup here is truly impressive!
They even have adorable turtle pizza bread! It reminded me of the pizza bread I used to make in baking class. My husband loved the look of it, and the price was so affordable, I had to snap a solo picture!
But let's be real, when you think of Koromabang Bakery, the first things that come to mind are their famous Real Shrimp Baguette and Cream Cheese Baguette! Seeing the display cases constantly refilled with these freshly baked baguettes, it's easy to understand why so many visitors make Koromabang Bakery a must-do on their Mokpo itinerary.
With the Garlic Baguette joining the lineup, they form a formidable "baguette trio"! They're generously sized, and at just ~$4 each, they offer incredible value.
If you buy a selection of their baguettes, they'll even package them in a nice box, making them perfect for gifts or souvenirs!
I thought only their baguettes were famous, but true to Mokpo's reputation as a city of delicious food, they've also launched three new signature snacks: Cotton Candy Bread, Bippa Dacquoise, and Gim Shrimp Chips. They seem to be promoting these as new must-try items.
Their refrigerated section was fully stocked with roll cakes, castellas, manju, and fresh cream cakes. They even sell sandwiches, perfect for a quick bite while exploring the city.
Even the cake designs have a charming, familiar feel to them!
With a cozy cafe space, you can grab your breads and enjoy them right away, or take your time browsing and shopping for your favorites.
Koromabang Bakery might not offer an "out-of-this-world" unique taste, but it's an incredibly historic bakery worth visiting at least once during your Mokpo trip!
Despite the crowds, the quick turnover means no long waits, and with its affordable prices and friendly service, it's a delightful Mokpo bakery experience.
