Among them, crab dishes are famously known as one of Mokpo's '9 Delicacies'.
And among those, I tried the renowned crab meat dish!
It's a dish where you don't have to prepare the crab yourself;
you can just enjoy the succulent crab meat without any fuss.
It's definitely worth trying at least once during your trip to Mokpo.
The place I visited is famous for its crab meat dish:
Jangteo Sikdang Main Branch.
It's such a popular spot that there's usually a wait,
and it seems to have gained even more recognition recently after being featured on 'Dokbak Tour'.
(Just a heads-up, 'Dokbak Tour' actually visited the Hadang Branch.)
Having visited Jangteo Sikdang Main Branch myself,
I'll share everything from the waiting experience to the menu, prices, and my honest review of the crab meat dish.
1. Mokpo Jangteo Sikdang Main Branch
Why I Chose It, Location, and Essential Information
I've always loved crab,
so when I heard it's one of Mokpo's renowned '9 Delicacies',
my interest was piqued even more!
The "crab meat dish" menu item particularly caught my eye.
As those who love crab know,
picking out the meat can be quite a task, right?
But what if the crab meat is already pre-picked for you?
I decided to try it for myself on this Mokpo trip.

📍The Jangteo Sikdang Main Branch I visited is
about a 3-minute walk from Mokpo Modern History Museum,
making it great to explore alongside other nearby attractions.
Besides the Main Branch, there are also Hadang and Namak branches,
so you might want to visit the one closest to your travel route.

2. Waiting & Atmosphere
We arrived on a weekend at 1:00 PM.
As soon as we got there, we headed to the counter to register for the waitlist,
and we successfully registered as the 50th team right before they closed the list!
If we had been just a little bit later, we might not have gotten to eat at all, haha!
‼️ Even if it's not during break time,
the waitlist might close for ingredient preparation.
We definitely recommend arriving with plenty of time to spare.
After registering for the waitlist, we explored the surrounding area while we waited.
When you register for the waitlist on-site,
you can check your real-time waiting status via KakaoTalk,
which was perfect for passing the time by wandering around nearby.
We waited for about 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes.
I expected it to take a long time,
but exploring the area made the time fly by, and we were in before we knew it.
The restaurant interior was more spacious than I expected.
When I visited, it was just before break time,
so it looked quiet as diners were finishing up.
However, with many tables, the turnover felt quick.
Since the dishes don't take too long to eat,
that might also contribute to the quick seating!
3. Menu and What We Ordered
Main Dishes: Marinated Crab Meat, Spicy Crab Salad, Spicy Crab Stew
Other Signature Dishes: Gizzard Shad, Pomfret, Skate
As expected, crab dishes are the most famous here.
And among them, many people were ordering the marinated crab meat.
So, I ordered the marinated crab meat without a second thought!
However, it's only available for orders of two people or more,
so I ordered two portions of the marinated crab meat.

4. Mokpo's 9 Delicacies: Marinated Crab Meat for 2
And finally, the marinated crab meat made its grand entrance - !
The soup, various side dishes (banchan), and the main event — the marinated crab meat — all arrived together.
Overall, the side dishes weren't overly seasoned,
and everything was just plain delicious.
The marinated crab meat wasn't overly salty or spicy.
It had just the right amount of umami, making it a perfect match for rice.
You can mix it directly with rice,
enjoy it with the bean sprout banchan,
or even wrap it in seaweed (kim) for another delicious bite.
Honestly, every single combination was a winner for me!
What I particularly loved about it
was that the crab meat was already carefully picked out and prepared,
making it incredibly convenient to enjoy.
Normally, when you want to savor some crab, you have to crack the shell,
diligently pick out the leg meat, and inevitably get sauce all over your hands....
We all know it's delicious, but it can be quite a messy affair, right?
But here, you just scoop up the crab meat with a spoon, and you're good to go!
Being able to enjoy it comfortably without any troublesome steps,
I truly felt this was a menu that boasts ultimate efficiency.
Now, the taste isn't 'so mind-blowingly delicious it'll make your eyes roll back!'
It's not that intense.
Instead, what makes it truly charming is the sheer convenience of enjoying the rich flavor of crab.
It was definitely a charming menu.
5. Overall Impression
The crab dish, one of Mokpo's 9 Delicacies,
and the marinated crab meat I tried for the first time, was ultimately a satisfying experience.
As any crab lover knows,
picking out the meat yourself can be a bit of a hassle.
If you love crab, this dish is definitely worth trying at least once,
and an experience worth having.
If you find yourself in Mokpo and are curious to try marinated crab meat,
I'd recommend putting Jangteo Sikdang on your list
and definitely consider a visit. 🦀
💕 Just a tip: it was perfectly fine because we put our name down for the wait and explored the nearby area!
If we'd had to wait for one or two hours straight, we might have been a bit disappointed...
