📍 Yudalsan Mountain

1) Gatbawi Rock
The first place I'd like to introduce is
a spot called Gatbawi Rock, a Natural Monument of Mokpo.
It's located at the estuary where the West Sea meets the Yeongsan River,
and with well-maintained boardwalks,
you can stroll along and admire both the sea and Gatbawi Rock.
What's special is that you can see twin-like rocks:
the larger rock is called 'Father Rock,' and the one right next to it is
known as 'Son Rock.' They resemble someone wearing a traditional Korean hat ('gat'),
which is how they got the name Gatbawi Rock!

2) Mokpo Skywalk
The second place I recommend, especially for an evening visit,
is the Mokpo Skywalk!

From the Skywalk, you can see Yudalsan Mountain, Gohado Island, and even Mokpo Bridge.
It's especially stunning in the evening,
when you can enjoy a beautiful night view alongside the evening sea.
If you visit the Skywalk,
be sure to walk over the sections with transparent holes to feel that exhilarating thrill,
and definitely take in the night view of the sea!
If you visit earlier in the day, taking the nearby cable car is also a great option.
You can see panoramic city views and the sea from up high.

3) Yudalsan Mountain
The third must-visit spot is Yudalsan Mountain.
Personally, I found it perfect for a post-dinner stroll.
It's not too steep, and after a leisurely 20-30 minute climb,
you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city from the pavilion.
What's more, you can see a statue of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and cannons used during previous wars,
making it a historically significant place to explore.
If you go during the day, there's also a scenic cafe called Yudalsanjang.
I recommend stopping there for a refreshing bingsu (shaved ice dessert)!

4) Mokpo Modern History Museum
Next up, I'll introduce a place that became even more famous after being a filming location for the K-drama 'Hotel Del Luna':
the Mokpo Modern History Museum.
If it's raining or too hot,
and you're looking for an indoor spot to visit, this place is perfect.

From Mokpo's history and independence movements to
even traditional clothing experience activities,
it's a place where you can learn history and explore,
making it great for visiting with children too.
Before you leave, don't forget to take a
must-take photo in front of the Modern History Museum!

5) Goha Dae Observatory
The last place I'll tell you about is the Goha Dae Observatory.
It's built on Goha Island, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin achieved victory in the Battle of Myeongnyang.
To commemorate his spirit, a model of a Panokseon (Korean traditional warship) has been constructed in a grid pattern,
housing an observatory and exhibition space inside.
I visited that day without realizing it closed early,
so please note that the operating hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM.
I hope you keep that in mind when you visit!
2. Must-Try Restaurants & Cafes When You Visit Mokpo
LIST of Restaurants & Cafes
📍 Deungdae Sikyuk Sikdang
1F, 78 Sandae-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City
📍 SUKSAN
588 Gohadae-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City
📍 Coffee Changoro
51 Pyeonghwa-ro, Mokpo-si, Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City
📍 Junghwaru
6 Yeongsan-ro 75beon-gil, Mokpo-si, Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City
📍 Yudal Kongmul
23-1 Honam-ro 58beon-gil, Mokpo-si, Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City

One of the places I always visit when I go to Mokpo is Deungdae Sikyuk Sikdang.
Because it's where you can taste fresh, raw chadolbagi (beef brisket),
which you can only find here!
I tried it for the first time, and now if a friend asks me where to go,
this is the number one restaurant I recommend!

The second must-visit restaurant is Junghwaru, where you can savor traditional Jung-kkan (a unique style of Jjajangmyeon) that you can only find here,
and enjoy a spicy Jjamppong (seafood noodle soup).
If you're going with two or more people,
it's a great idea to order Jjajangmyeon, Jjamppong, and Tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)
to try a variety of delicious dishes!

Lastly, I want to share Yudal Kongmul, a Kongguksu (cold soybean noodle soup) restaurant that was so much more delicious than I imagined
even my parents thoroughly enjoyed it!
My dad, who initially said he wouldn't eat it, ended up finishing the whole bowl.
The rich and savory soybean broth was simply superb.
It was so good that I even got an extra portion to take home that day!
If you visit Yudal Kongmul and find a long wait,
consider getting takeout or delivery.
It could be a great way to save time,
so keep it in mind when planning your schedule and travel route!

After enjoying a delicious meal,
you'll surely want some yummy dessert, right??
Here's a list of must-visit cafes.
SUKSAN Cafe is a spacious cafe with ocean views, offering a variety of delicious salt bread and cakes!
With various photo zones, ample space,
and delectable desserts,
it's one of the cafes frequently visited by travelers
coming to Mokpo.

And I also stopped by Coromvang Bakery, which is unique to Mokpo,
to try their famous shrimp baguette, a flavor you can only experience there.
It's a flavor that surprisingly lingered in my mind long after I returned.
If you happen to visit, don't just get one like I did;
buy several, seriously! ㅠㅠ

The last cafe you absolutely must visit is
Coffee Changoro.
Among all the egg tart places I've tried so far,
this one easily ranks in my top three – it was that delicious!
The pastry was perfectly crispy, and the filling inside was
soft and sweet, making it ideal for a gift.
