It's truly the ultimate destination for foodies!
On my recent 2-night, 3-day adventure to Mokpo with my sibling,
we explored everything from top-notch restaurants, cozy cafes, and even went on a delightful bakery tour (ppang-ji-sunrye),
We truly made the most of our time, discovering amazing spots perfect for soaking in the local charm.
In this post, I'll be sharing all the places I personally visited,
categorized into Mokpo's best restaurants, cafes & desserts, and must-visit attractions,
along with accommodation recommendations, all conveniently organized in one place.

Mokpo's Signature Eats & Top Restaurants
One thing you absolutely cannot miss on a trip to Mokpo
is a foodie tour!
On my last Mokpo trip, I indulged in everything from fresh sashimi and Hamo shabu-shabu,
to spicy braised pollock (kodari-jjim), octopus dumplings (nakji-mandu), and even a buffet. I truly savored a wide variety of dishes that you can only experience properly in Mokpo!
1. Mokpo Gogi Nara
If you're looking to enjoy an abundance of fresh sashimi and generous side dishes (sukkidashi) in Mokpo Bukhang,
this is the place I recommend!
Having tried it myself, the sashimi was incredibly fresh, and the variety of side dishes (sukkidashi)
was so diverse, it truly reinforced that Mokpo is a premier gourmet travel destination.
2. Nanyoung Fisheries
If you're seeking seasonal nourishing dishes (boyang-sik) on your Mokpo trip,
this is the place I wholeheartedly recommend!
The Hamo shabu-shabu I had at Nanyoung Fisheries in Cheongho Market
was truly impressive, and if you're looking for a restaurant recommended by Mokpo locals,
I highly suggest checking this place out.
3. Jangteo Jjindaengi Main Branch
With its incredibly flavorful sauce that's just addictive, even when you're full,
the spicy braised pollock (kodari-jorim) just kept you wanting more – it was that delicious!
This place is truly a magical must-try restaurant in Mokpo's Pyeonghwa Square!
It's highly recommended for anyone looking for a 'rice thief' dish that will have you devouring your meal!
4. Mokpo Wonjo Yerim-ine Nakji Mandu (Original Yerim's Octopus Dumplings)
If you're looking to try something a bit unique in Mokpo,
I definitely recommend giving octopus dumplings (nakji-mandu) a try!
It's an interesting restaurant where you can enjoy octopus, Mokpo's signature ingredient, in the form of dumplings,
making it a truly unique culinary experience worth trying at least once.
5. Gourmet Square Mokpo Branch
If you're looking to enjoy a variety of delicious foods all at once in Mokpo,
Gourmet Square is your spot!
On the second day of our trip, we wanted to savor a bit of everything from various menus,
so we did a weekend 'open-run' (arrived right at opening time),
and I was really impressed by how diverse the menu was!
Mokpo Cafes & Dessert: A Bakery Lover's Pilgrimage
Mokpo isn't just about amazing food; its cafes and bakeries are an absolute must-visit for any dessert lover!
You simply can't miss them!!
From grand bakery cafes to cozy, atmospheric spots, delicious tart bakeries,
and even coffee specialists, I made sure to squeeze in plenty of cafe hopping.
1. Cafe Inpyeonggwang
If you're seeking a spacious bakery cafe near Mokpo Peace Square offering an incredible array of pastries,
this is definitely the place to go!
With so many delicious treats on offer, it's a delight just to browse,
and it's the perfect spot to pair your favorite drink with a freshly baked delight!
2. Hokho
If you're searching for a wonderfully atmospheric and 'sensible' cafe near Mokpo Station,
this is a fantastic recommendation!
The exterior and interior offer an unexpected, delightful charm,
making it the perfect place to pause and recharge while exploring Mokpo's historic old downtown.
3. Slow the Bite
A wonderful cafe near Mokpo Station where you can relax and savor some delicious tarts!
It's highly recommended, especially if you have a soft spot for artisanal, handmade tarts.
4. Koromang Bakery
A historic and traditional bakery that's an absolute must-visit on any Mokpo 'bakery pilgrimage'!
It’s a fantastic spot to grab a souvenir from your Mokpo journey,
which is why I made sure to stop by again on this trip.
5. Jjonbox Mokpo Batong Jjonddeugi
If you're looking for a souvenir snack from your Mokpo trip,
I'd also recommend Batong Jjonddeugi!
It's a specialty snack you can only find in Mokpo,
so it makes for a great souvenir.
6. Lethe Coffee
As I wrapped up my 2-night, 3-day trip to Mokpo,
this was the last cafe I stopped by!
I got to taste delicious coffee, masterfully brewed by an amazing barista,
making it the perfect way to enjoy a final cup of coffee on the trip.
Mokpo Must-Visit Spots & Great Places to Explore Nearby
Beyond just delicious restaurants and cafes on my Mokpo trip,
I also explored some of Mokpo's tourist spots that are great to combine with a meal.
1. Rose Street (Jangmi-ui Geori)
With restaurants and cafes scattered throughout,
it's a wonderful place for a leisurely stroll before or after a meal!
Especially if you visit during rose blooming season, you can enjoy the scenery
filled with the fragrant scent of roses.
2. Modern History Story Park (Geundae Yeoksa Iyagi Gongwon)
I stumbled upon this place while walking, and it was perfect for a stroll,
soaking in the atmosphere of Mokpo's modern alleys.
I'd recommend it to those who want to experience Mokpo's older ambiance
rather than just flashy tourist attractions!
3. Mokpo Old Town Retro Alley
Every single sign here has that perfect retro vibe,
making it feel like time has stopped as you walk through.
Not setting a specific destination and just slowly wandering through the alleys
seems to be part of the fun of a Mokpo trip.
And as I walked, a song naturally came to mind!!
The rainy Honam Line~~~ on the southbound train~~
Beyond the swaying train window, 'Ooshala Ooshala Ooshala Ooshala!'
Rainwater flows~~ and my tears flow too~~
4. Mokpo Marine Cable Car
If you're looking for a place with amazing views on your Mokpo trip,
this iconic landmark is absolutely unmissable!!
The panoramic view of the sea and Yudalsan Mountain is stunning,
so if you're in Mokpo, it's definitely worth a ride.
Also, online advance booking is much cheaper than buying tickets on site,
so if you're planning to visit, I highly recommend arranging it beforehand!!
5. Firefly Star Unmanned Souvenir Shop
If you love browsing charming and cute trinkets,
this is definitely a place worth visiting!
Being an unmanned shop, it was really fun to browse without any pressure,
and I even spotted Lee Byung-hun's autograph! Lol.
6. Mokpo Modern History Museum
If you want to experience modern history and a retro vibe together
on your Mokpo trip, this is highly recommended!
It's also known as a filming location for the drama 'Hotel Del Luna,'
making it a fantastic spot to explore and snap some photos.
While the main building requires a paid admission, the air-raid shelter located behind the building
is open to the public for free, so if you visit,
be sure not to miss exploring it!
7. Back to Mokpo
From its exterior, 'Back to Mokpo' truly felt like a perfect photo zone,
a retro-inspired spot!
I couldn't go inside because I was in a hurry and there's an admission fee,
but if you appreciate Mokpo's old-world charm,
it might be a great place to visit.
8. Pyeonghwa Plaza Mokpo Dancing Sea Fountain
If Cuba has the Malecón,
then Mokpo has Pyeonghwa Plaza!
It's a great spot in Mokpo for a seaside stroll, with plenty of amazing restaurants and
cafes nearby, making it perfect to visit before or after a meal!
And to cap off your day in Mokpo, there's the perfect
nighttime attraction: the Dancing Sea Fountain!

As you feel the cool night sea breeze and watch the fountain show unfold with music,
all your travel fatigue
just melts away!!
And after enjoying the fountain show, I also recommend taking a photo at Pyeonghwa Plaza's
Tunnel of Love!!
Missed them this time, but these are the places I'm dreaming of for my next Mokpo adventure!
1. Taedong Banjeom
My sibling, who once called Mokpo home, swears by this place as a Chinese cuisine hotspot!
It's been featured on Heo Young-man's 'Baekban Journey' and Pungja's 'Tto Ganjip' (Another Place I've Been),
so it's a spot I absolutely want to check out on my next Mokpo trip
— that's why I saved this photo!
I heard their service and generosity are incredible,
so I've decided I absolutely must go next time.
2. Ssukgulle
Although I couldn't try it myself this time,
Ssukgulle is one of Mokpo's iconic dessert spots!
Seeing multiple 'Blue Ribbon' stickers,
I thought, 'Ah, famous places really are different.'
And seeing that they collaborated with artist Inbeom Mangjeongsu,
I was happy to snap a picture :)
This place, along with Taedong Banjeom, is definitely a must-visit
on my next trip to Mokpo!
Mokpo Accommodation Recommendation
For my recent 2-night, 3-day trip to Mokpo, my accommodation was
Cloud Inn Hotel near Pyeonghwa Square.
Being close to Pyeonghwa Square, it was convenient for public transportation,
and I could walk to nearby restaurants and cafes, so
I was very satisfied.
I particularly liked that complimentary breakfast was included.

so if you're looking for a place to stay in Mokpo,

Concluding My 2-Night, 3-Day Mokpo Trip
My recent trip to Mokpo was truly, in every sense of the word, a culinary journey of eating, drinking,
walking, and eating some more.
Mokpo has so much delicious food that
2 nights and 3 days flew by faster than I expected, you know?
Especially focusing on areas where restaurants and cafes are concentrated,
and exploring places like Mokpo's modern alleyways or
Pyeonghwa Square along the way, made it more than just a culinary trip,
which I loved even more.
