Mexico City 5-Day Trip 2026: Chapultepec Castle, Tacos & More
Relive a 5-day Mexico City journey from the Seguridad Mexico exhibition to Chapultepec Castle and delicious tacos. Plus, tips for Teotihuacan!
Hey there, fellow explorers!
Today, I'm excited to share my unforgettable 5-day, 7-night adventure in Mexico City, back in April 2026. While it was primarily a business trip for the Seguridad Mexico security industry exhibition, it turned into an incredible opportunity to soak in the vibrant culture and explore some amazing spots.
If you're in the IT/security industry preparing for an overseas exhibition, or simply planning a 5-day trip to Mexico City, I hope my experience offers some valuable insights!
The main purpose of my Mexico City journey was to attend Seguridad Mexico 2026, a major security industry exhibition. Held annually in April at Centro Citibanamex, it's the largest security trade show in Latin America, attracting a wide array of companies specializing in CCTV, access control, and cybersecurity.
My team and I were tasked with setting up a booth for my former company. I still vividly remember the hustle and bustle, working alongside colleagues to install equipment and bring our display to life. Sharing that experience in an unfamiliar country really strengthened our teamwork, especially with our local branch employees!

Before the exhibition officially kicked off, I managed to carve out a little time to visit Chapultepec Castle. Perched atop a hill, the views of Mexico City from up there were absolutely breathtaking. For a moment, I completely forgot I was on a business trip and felt like a true tourist!
Chapultepec Castle now operates as the National Museum of History. Entry for adults is approximately ~$3. It's open Tuesday through Sunday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, and remember, it's closed on Mondays, so plan your visit accordingly!

Once the exhibition was in full swing, my colleagues and I spent our days manning our booth and exploring others. It was fascinating to get a firsthand feel for the Latin American security market, which is quite different from what we typically see back home.
While a few days of booth duty can be exhausting, the experience of working towards a common goal with my team made it an incredibly valuable trip.

After long days at the exhibition, my colleagues and I made it a tradition to explore different taco spots around the city every evening. There's nothing quite like savoring a variety of delicious tacos right in their homeland! It was the perfect way to unwind and bond after a demanding day.

For those of you visiting Mexico City for a short business trip or a layover, I highly recommend trying to squeeze in at least a half-day for exploring the surrounding areas. My schedule was pretty tight, leaving me with only about half a day of free time, which I spent entirely at Chapultepec Castle.
Looking back, my one regret is not making it to the Teotihuacan Pyramids. They're located about 31 miles northeast of Mexico City's center, and you can easily get there by bus from the Northern Bus Terminal in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. It's definitely doable even with just a half-day to spare!
If your itinerary allows for a bit more flexibility than mine did, I truly suggest adding Teotihuacan to your plans. It's one of the most impressive pyramid sites in the Americas and an experience you won't want to miss.
