For couples seeking an extraordinary honeymoon destination, far from the usual tourist trails, Mauritius often captures their imagination. My husband and I were drawn to Mauritius for precisely that reason.

Here’s a detailed review of our 4-night stay at the exquisite Shanti Maurice Resort.

1. Shanti Maurice: A 5-Star Gem in Mauritius

While Mauritius boasts numerous luxury resorts, finding a pool villa with a private swimming pool within the room itself can be surprisingly challenging. Shanti Maurice stands out by offering a wide array of room types, from standard suites to ocean view pool villas and beachfront pool villas. This flexibility allows you to choose an option that perfectly fits your budget and desires.

The resort is nestled in the relatively tranquil southern region of Mauritius. When selecting your honeymoon accommodation, it’s crucial to consider the island's geography, as the weather and ocean ambiance can vary significantly by region due to wind patterns and terrain.

The **northern part** of the island, where the capital Port Louis is located, is more vibrant, offering plenty of shops and restaurants.

The **western coast** experiences less wind, resulting in calmer waters and spectacular sunsets.

The **eastern coast** boasts wide beaches and the most stunning ocean colors, but it's significantly windier year-round. Especially during Mauritius's winter season (May-October), strong winds can make it feel quite chilly.

Shanti Maurice Resort is situated in the **southern region**, characterized by dramatic volcanic rock cliffs. While the south tends to be breezier than the west, the resort benefits from its location within a lagoon, which offers some natural protection from the wind – a definite plus!

2. Our Beachfront Pool Villa Experience

We initially booked the most basic pool villa, but to our delight, we received a complimentary upgrade to a higher-category room upon check-in! The lush, verdant gardens visible from the lobby created an excellent first impression.

Our spacious living room featured a comfortable sofa and a TV. While expansive, we honestly spent most of our time in the pool and bedroom, so we didn't use the living area much. The bathroom was well-appointed with a large bathtub and two sinks, making it convenient for both of us to get ready simultaneously.

The bedroom housed a king-sized bed, a sofa, and a table. A lovely rattan bag provided in the room was a thoughtful gift from Shanti Maurice, which we were able to take home. Although I didn't capture many photos, I did take a video to show the overall room condition, which you can check out below.

Shanti Maurice Pool Villa's Private Pool

Without a doubt, the private pool was our favorite feature of the Shanti Maurice pool villa! Folding doors from the bedroom opened directly to the pool, and numerous windows throughout the villa provided easy access from the living area too. While it looked large in photos, it was even more impressive in person, offering ample space for the two of us to swim and relax. There was even a stone 'bed' at the end of the pool where you could recline in the water.

There was a small, fountain-like stone structure in the middle of the pool. Personally, I thought it might have been better for swimming without it, but that's a minor detail! Nevertheless, the overall vista, connecting the pool, gazebo, and beach, was truly picturesque.

Each pool villa had assigned sun loungers with a sign indicating the room number. You could even press a bell to order drinks or food directly to your spot.

From our room, a path alongside the pool led directly to the beach. The section of the beach in front of our villa had more volcanic rock, so it wasn't the typical white sandy stretch, but we found its unique character quite charming.

3. Shanti Maurice Main Pool

Of course, the main pool at Shanti Maurice is also wonderfully spacious. It was never crowded during our stay, allowing us to enjoy a cocktail from the poolside bar and truly feel like we were in paradise.

Near the main restaurant and reception building, the beach has fewer rocks, offering a more pristine sandy landscape for your photos.

Even though we stayed in a pool villa, I looked up the approximate price for a standard room for two people for one night on an arbitrary date. Here's what I found:

Traveloka offered the lowest price among these options. There's a significant difference compared to the official website! Even for the pool villa type we stayed in, Traveloka was considerably cheaper than booking directly.

If you're booking for 3 nights or more, you could save around ~$740, which is enough to splurge on an incredible helicopter tour that might otherwise seem too expensive!

I missed out on the helicopter tour and opted for two days of private taxi tours instead.

Please, if you go, do the helicopter tour to see the underwater waterfall for me!

If you love water activities, a five-island tour would also be fantastic.

It seems that these platforms generally offer better deals for other resorts too, not just Shanti Maurice, so it's always worth checking them when you search for accommodation.

Having invested a significant amount in our honeymoon, one might expect nothing less than perfection. However, my husband and I were so utterly delighted with Shanti Maurice that we often talk about returning for our 10th anniversary – a dream we truly hope comes true!

The pool, room condition, the staff's exceptional kindness, and the delicious restaurant food – everything was simply top-notch. I wholeheartedly recommend Shanti Maurice to anyone planning a trip to Mauritius.
