Mamaka by Ovolo Bali Review: The Best Value Hotel in Kuta
Looking for the perfect first-night stay in Bali? Discover why Mamaka by Ovolo in Kuta offers the best blend of value, location, and stunning rooftop views.
Prime Location at Mamaka by Ovolo Hotel
Many travelers spend just one night in Kuta
before moving on to other parts of Bali.
If you're arriving on a late flight and need a quick stay,
you're probably looking for a great value hotel.
I recently spent my first night at Mamaka by Ovolo in Kuta,
and it checked all my boxes.
Here is my honest review!
1. Looking for a Great Value Hotel in Kuta?

If you're flying into Bali on a late-night international flight, spending top dollar on your first night can feel like a waste.
For my recent trip, I specifically searched for hotels near the airport in the Kuta area for that crucial first night.
💡 My criteria for the first night in Bali:
- Under ~$80 per night
- Close to the airport (for a quick, cheap taxi ride)
- Clean and modern facilities
You can easily find spots in Bali for under ~$40, but I wanted to bump up my budget slightly to guarantee a clean room in a safe, central location.

Since I was only staying one night, I wasn't too picky about the immediate surroundings.
However, because I planned to head to my next destination the following afternoon, I wanted a place with enough nearby attractions to keep me entertained in the morning.
After a lot of searching, Mamaka Bali on Kuta Beach hit every single mark for a flawless first-night stay!

2. Prime Location at Mamaka Bali
Mamaka by Ovolo Standard Room
📍 Mamaka Bali
Jl. Pantai Kuta No.32, Legian, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 Indonesia

I wasn't specifically hunting for a beachfront property, but this hotel is located right across from Kuta Beach!
Even better, as you can see on the map, it's just a 7-minute walk to the Beachwalk Shopping Center.
A breezy stroll down the coastal road takes you straight to Kuta's largest mall.

By the way, there's a % Arabica coffee shop right nearby! It's super popular, though, so grabbing a seat can be a challenge.
Walking into the standard room, the bathroom is immediately to your left, along with a closet space and a cabinet holding the electric kettle.
For a standard room, it's incredibly spacious.
You can easily pop open two large suitcases with plenty of room to spare.
Since the hotel opened in 2020, the facilities still feel exceptionally fresh and modern.
The bathroom features a sleek shower booth.
I usually travel with my own toiletries, so I didn't extensively test their bath products.
However, they do provide complimentary toothbrushes and toothpaste—a huge plus when you're only staying one night and don't want to dig through your luggage.

I later noticed Google classifies this as a 5-star hotel.
While it might not have the sprawling grounds of a massive luxury resort, the immaculate cleanliness and exceptional hospitality definitely deliver a 5-star experience.
3. The Highlight: Mamaka Bali's Rooftop
At check-in, the staff handed me a welcome drink coupon.
It's redeemable at the rooftop bar, but since I arrived late, I saved it for the next day.
The rooftop is a vibrant, airy space decked out in colorful rattan furniture that screams "Bali."
We lucked out with incredibly clear weather. Kuta Beach isn't always known for crystal-clear waters, but from this vantage point, it looked absolutely stunning.
The panoramic ocean views genuinely made me say, "Wow!"
We grabbed a seat and the staff brought over our drinks.
I tried a dragon fruit concoction—it was gorgeous to look at, though the flavor was a bit on the mild side.

Because it was just a quick one-night stay, I was bummed I missed the rooftop at night.
The bar area is beautifully designed, and I can only imagine how electric the vibe gets after sunset.
With the ambient lighting, a gentle ocean breeze, and a cocktail in hand, it would be the perfect way to spend an evening :)
For reference, here are the approximate rates for a one-night stay at Mamaka by Ovolo (based on random dates in March):
~$71 | |
~$75 | |
~$72 |
The prices are all fairly competitive.
Agoda tends to be the cheapest, but I recommend booking through whichever platform you have the best loyalty status with to maximize your perks.
I usually book through Booking.com because of my Genius tier!
If you want to compare prices across the board, checking HotelsCombined first is always a smart move.
While I only stayed for one night, this hotel is definitely comfortable enough for a 2 to 3-night stay if you plan on exploring the Kuta and Seminyak areas.
With the beach right across the street, it's an especially fantastic location for surfers.
