BANGKOK
King Power Mahanakhon Observatory
A Must-Visit Family Attraction in Bangkok
The King Power Mahanakhon SkyWalk is an incredible outdoor observation deck offering some of the most breathtaking, unobstructed views of the city.
The absolute highlight here is the SkyWalk.
Standing on a transparent glass floor 1,017 feet in the air,
with the entire Bangkok skyline sprawling beneath your feet,
is a thrilling and unforgettable experience for kids and adults alike.
If you are looking for family-friendly things to do in Bangkok,
let me introduce you to the King Power Mahanakhon Observatory.
1. King Power Mahanakhon Overview

☁️ King Power Mahanakhon
Address: 114 Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Rd, Si Lom, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500 Thailand
Hours: Daily 10:00 AM - 12:00 AM (Midnight)
The observatory is incredibly easy to reach.
It's located right at Chong Nonsi Station on the BTS Silom Line (Dark Green Line).
Just take Exit 3,
and the iconic pixelated building is right in front of you.

You can buy tickets on-site at the counter or book them online in advance.
Here is a quick breakdown of the options:
| On-site Purchase | Online Booking |
Daytime 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM | 1,000 THB ~$36 | ~$36 |
Sunset 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM | 1,200 THB ~$43 | ~$43 |
Ticket Includes | Observatory & SkyRides | Observatory & SkyRides + Drink Voucher |
(SkyRides is a media art space located on the 4th floor)
Booking online is generally a bit cheaper than buying at the door.
Plus, if you book a sunset time slot on Klook,
they often throw in a complimentary drink voucher!
Another huge perk of booking online is skipping the ticket counter line.
Instead of waiting to buy a physical ticket,
you just show the QR code from your digital voucher to the staff
and head straight to the elevators.

2. Indoor Observatory

The King Power Mahanakhon features both indoor and outdoor observation decks.
Since the outdoor SkyWalk is the main attraction, the indoor area tends to be much quieter.
If you want to enjoy the panoramic views in a more peaceful setting,
I highly recommend taking your time exploring the indoor space first!
While wandering inside, you might stumble upon this wild sight...
It's a paid experience where you lay on a sturdy net suspended roughly 984 feet in the air,
looking directly down at the city below.
Just watching other people do it gave me vertigo!
If you are an adrenaline junkie, you should definitely give it a try 👀
3. Outdoor Observatory (SkyWalk)

The undisputed star of the show at King Power Mahanakhon
is the outdoor SkyWalk Zone .ᐟ
Stepping out onto a transparent glass floor 1,017 feet above the ground
is absolutely terrifying at first, but it genuinely feels like you are walking on air.
It’s a strangely addictive and magical experience.

To protect the glass, you are required to wear protective cloth shoe covers
(sharp heels are strictly prohibited).
You also cannot bring phones, cameras, or bags onto the glass itself,
so whoever is taking your photo has to stand outside the designated glass boundary.

If you are traveling solo, don't worry! The staff members are happy to help.
They are incredibly enthusiastic and actually
take surprisingly great, well-framed photos haha.
If you are visiting with kids, definitely ask the staff
to snap a fun family souvenir photo for you 👍´-

There's also a rooftop bar selling snacks, sodas, and alcoholic beverages,
so you can grab a drink and just soak in the magnificent skyline.

Let me tell you, a cold beer tastes so much better at 1,017 feet in the air .. ⭐

The outdoor deck is completely open-air with no glass walls obstructing your view.
It offers a true 360-degree panorama of the city,
allowing you to spot major landmarks like the Chao Phraya River, ICONSIAM, Lumphini Park, and the Grand Palace all at a glance.

Because I booked a sunset ticket,
I got to experience the daytime views, the golden hour sunset, and the glittering nightscape
all in one visit!
Taking photos on the glass SkyWalk is definitely better during the day,
but simply admiring the city view is an absolute dream at night.
🍯 PRO TIP
If you book a sunset ticket, make sure to enter right at 4:00 PM
so you have enough time to capture those bright daytime shots first!

Since the main draw is getting that perfect Instagram shot on the glass floor,
the crowds really started to thin out once the sun went down and the lighting changed.
It seems most people prefer to visit during the day.

The tourists who stayed behind were mostly just relaxing,
enjoying the night breeze with a drink in hand.
The glass SkyWalk itself became so empty
you could practically roll around on it haha.
If you schedule your visit for the evening,
it's a much more relaxed environment to enjoy with kids,
making it a highly recommended family activity in Bangkok.

At night, the headlights from the traffic below become incredibly clear,
and you can see the constant motion of the city right under your toes.
Honestly, looking down through the glass at night felt even more thrilling than during the day!
However, be aware that when taking photos at night, the glass reflects the rooftop lights,
causing glare and making the transparent floor look a bit cloudy on camera.
That's why I strongly suggest getting your photos done while the sun is still up.

Visiting the King Power Mahanakhon Observatory with kids is a fantastic experience.
Being able to see the city transition from day to night was truly memorable.
To summarize: take your brave SkyWalk photos during the day,
and grab a drink to enjoy the dazzling city lights at night!
